"Therefore, what?" Let's just forget about immigration and let anyone and everyone in here to be our undocumented . . . agricultural . . . slaves.

Right? That's it, isn't it?

Just severely punish the employers. Problem fixed. Hire them and they will come. Don't hire them and why would they come? If the government didn't want them here they wouldn't be here as all we have to do is enforce rules we have. I think the more serious and mysterious question is, "Why is it allowed ?".

The regulation is expensive, every business needing to support 2 languages is expensive, the cost of identity theft is expensive, the costs associated with NOT getting other things done politically because of this problem.

So why don't we avoid most of this expense?

If we stop holding the carrot of amnesty out every few years, stop allowing every criminal employer to avoid e-verify, clarify the 14th amendment which the authors were crystal clear that allowing anchors is wrong, end sanctuary states/cities and stop allowing them to ever enter this country again for any reason after the FIRST offense of being here illegally we could avoid most of this cost.

As a bonus millions of citizens would be off unemployment, wages would rise, less fossil fuels would have to be imported, fewer fragile ecosystems would be turned into barrios and the savings for educations/welfare for anchors would save us hundreds of billions.

Technically, we didn't have immigration laws until the late 1800s. The first laws were designed to keep Indians (from India, not Native Americans) from becoming citizens. Then Chinese were allowed to work here, but couldn't become citizens.

In the early 1900s, we made an effort to prohibit Southern and Eastern Europeans from entering. Then we put into law that anyone who wasn't from Northwestern Europe would have a VERY LOW quota as to who we would approve.

So really, white Americans? Welcomed with open arms, as long as they didn't have a funny accent.

Asians, Africans, Latin Americans, or southern/eastern Europeans? Not really accepted.

(Our current policy is, "if you can navigate our complex immigration system, you MIGHT get in...")

I know in the state I live in. A state worker released a lot of illegals names that were getting state aid. They fired the lady. However later it was discovered a lot of the Social Security numbers being used were stolen. Never a word about anything happening to the illegals using them. This should disqualify people from getting into the new system, but it probably will not.

We have so many immigration laws now on the books from past fixes for this problem simply makes this fix another huge waste that will add to the deficit. Plus the immigration situation will only get worse because nothing will be done after the reform goes into law. This is not the first time we have tried to make a rock out of mud.

Easy cure, close the borders and end immigration. One office to issue temporary visas to work the jobs citizens are to lazy to do.

Anyone that overstays gets free room and board for 6 months while they provide labor to clean-up the lands that have been damaged by all of the illegal crossings.

Yes there are lots of forms to fill out and fees to pay , but those who want to come into the US LEGALLY are not complaining. The one complaining are those who are here ILLEGALLY.

Has anyone calculated the cost of the time it takes people to fill out medical/insurance paperwork and the countless hours they spend waiting in doctors' offices and emergency rooms?
04:59 PM on 04/04/2013
My father once told a doc that his time was worth something too and if the doc kept him waiting again for a couple of hours, he was going to take 50/hr off his bill. He was never kept waiting again.

I have been saying this for years. If we just shut down the border patrol and all anyone to come into this country who wanted to it would be a win for our country. Think of the savings we would have! Think of the diversity! Think of the money we would get. I saw a report if we allowed amnesty the GDP would grow 1.4 trillion! So imagine if we let in everyone in the world! 100 trillion!

if the congress was listening to what the GAO have being saying. we could reduce paperwork and expense across every agency. it is time we begin to take some of those recommendation and start finding ways to reduce paper work across the govt programs.
