No matter how many times you say it, it won't be true. Everyone including PBO, Joe, and Killary were involved in creating this mess and the latter 3 have been there the whole time and have made it worse.

The global economic structure will have to change to account for the fact that there will never be a high enough demand for employees as the pool of prospective, qualified candidates who need employment. The economic model needed must assume that there will be a steady net increase of unemployed people.

We can observe an ever speeding development of materials, energy, and labor. This development gives us almost daily increases in the perfomance of products, while reducing the materials costs, using less energy, and needing fewer hands in the manufacturing process.
The inevitable result of this acceleration is that we are gradually weaning ourselves away from the need to "own a job". We need to make it possible to have fullfilling lives that are not job based, the transition will not be easy, but if we fail, civilization will have failed.

Why? They have nothing to do with demand. They will take the person who is the best fit for the company, whatever that may be.

The irony with the job sector, is that once your are laid off for no fault of your own, you are forever thereafter marked as someone who either deserved to be laid off or didn't have the skills to maintain your employment status. Then you get into this endless cycle of trying to convince those who are hiring that you are qualified (and you definitely are), but the employer will always take another less skilled individual over you simply because they have a job.

Apparently you missed the part where I said "through no fault of their own". And yes, I see it all the time. I'm highly skilled, and highly educated....and if taken on a national average I probably rank in the top 25 percent of my field. The problem is that with so much competition, again, as I said, employers screen candidates out on very shallow principles like....are you employed....as a priority over.....are you skilled, and are you intelligent.
12:55 PM on 04/07/2013
Unfortuinately the longer you are out the more behind your skills get. Especuially if you are in a trade which requires constant recertification

We are in the 5th year of Obamania. No more blaming Bush. Anyone now who looks back 5 to 6 years and tries to blame history for failure in the present just looks ludicrous and out of touch.

You wouldn't hire a plumber with no executive experience but some hired a President with the same credentials.

Water under the bridge now. Act in haste, repent in leisure. Oh, the whiners and snivelers will blame their momma, and daddy and Bush and the republicans etc. But as the Michael Jackson song said, blame the man in the mirror.

when the job market comes back you have sequestration. I dont blame bush. I blame every single republican. Obama did not launch ill conceived wars or implement disastrous deregulations. He is the reason we still have an economy. I would suggest that you take a dose of your own medicine - dont blame obama and get out of the way and let him do his job.

our economy is in the toilet. read the papers, more people have dropped out of the job market since 1979, in 1979 we had another democrat who was totally clueless Jimmy carter. Today there are more people out of the job market because there are no jobs to be had. More people on food stamps than ever before, more people recieving ssi disability because they cant find work, more people on welfare, google the numbers. and all these number will get worse in 2014 when Obamacare in in full force, Obama has no clue of how to run this country or help the economy, then what do you expect when you elect a community organizer. I hope you are happy with hope and change

"...the number of Americans in the labor force – those who have a job or are looking for one – fell by nearly half a million people from February to March, the government said Friday. And the percentage of working-age adults in the labor force – what's called the participation rate – fell to 63.3 percent last month. It's the lowest such figure since May 1979."

Apparently these people didn't get the memo about how great a job Obama has done.
12:29 PM on 04/07/2013
No, but we did get the memo that capitalism is self-imploding.
12:32 PM on 04/07/2013

As a former 99er, watching this breaks my heart, especially since the solution is so incredibly easy and it has been proven to work in our history as well:

I put the blame for this on the republican party, however I blame Obama for not making a clear and effective presentation for doing this to the American people.

What we need to do is propose a multi-trillion dollar manufacturing rescue plan. This will return our manufacturing industries back to our country and pay for the costs by eliminating corporate tax loop holes and offshore tax credits & tax havens and ending the war in Afghanistan. This will create well over 10 million new jobs and dramatically grow our economy. Over 10 million unemployed and entitlement recipients will now turn into hard working middle class tax payers. We will kick China's but economically. Everyone wins with this proposal.

Obama and the dems, get out and present this over and over to the American people. Republicans why would you not be for this sensible approach? Zero excuse.

We also need to eliminate offshore tax credits which reward corporations for outsourcing American jobs to China and rewarding the hiring of h1 visa workers from other countries, those jobs belong to the American people.

But, I'm guessing you are fine with illegal immigrants, right? Because we all know that adding 12 million people to the labor supply doesn't impact wages.

Why so serious?
12:07 PM on 04/07/2013
Remember....YOU voted for him!!
12:15 PM on 04/07/2013
It was a wise move to vote for him. Would you prefer being in a great depression under Romney and Ryan? If you are serious as a republican for job creation and I mean really serious, not Obama name calling fake, but serious, then tell your party to get rid of offshore tax credits rewarding corporations for outsourcing jobs and importing h1 visa workers, pass the Obama jobs bill and invest in returning manufacturing industries and jobs back to our country. Put a heavy tax or tariff on Walmart for stocking its shelves with 90% Chinese products and give them a tax reward if they stock their shelves with 50% American / 50% Chinese products.

Doing the above will create well over 12 million new jobs and repair this entire high unemployment problem. We have invested in manufacturing after WWII and it grew our economy through the roof. What are we waiting for, our politicians to stop being bribed by the corporations and wealthy donors?

12:17 PM on 04/07/2013
This started from Bush and the trickle down failed republican model, not to mention the heavy tax loopholes and offshoring of American jobs. Obama went from the Bush great recession and loss of 750,000 jobs a month to 37 straight months of job growth. End the sequestration republicans and restore our tax holiday, and invest in returning manufacturing jobs and industries back to our country and this entire problem will be solved.
