and if that's not enough there will be no milk and cookies at the meeting!

I didn't think we still celebrated Columbus day. I guess all the Senators will have to cancel their Columbus day parties and all the festivites that happen during the Columbus day holiday. I think you're supposed to eat Italian or something like that. Let's just hope this does not leech over into Halloween. What will happen then?

Most public school systems use that time to hold in-service or some other funtion so the kids get a day off. Columbus' accomplishments celebrated? Not too often.

Our local newspaper has a couple of good articles today. One is on the health care plans proposed by the House and Senate and how much they would save in federal funds - yes, SOCIALISM :) already in place! - now wasted through unnecessary costs in Medicare and Medicaid.

The second is a story on a new health-boosting, entriely voluntary program at local, international business. The 55 employees taking part have already logged over 2,175 miles walking for just four weeks in a national program called Start!. They compete for prizes and are urged to come up with creative ideas to add to the health benefits of this program.

There is also a good deal of information in the article about the dollar costs of obesity - about $12.7 billion a year to American businesses - in medical expenses and the dollar costs to those businesses in loss of productivity and health care due to overall unhealthy employees.

OMG! 11 weeks without a break. Does anyone else in America work that hard? I personally can't go more than a month without taking a week off.

EGADS this is BREAKING NEWS.

harry reid actually did what he said he would do!!!!!

Now if he doesn't mess up the health care bill he just might win his re-election bid but I am NOT holding my breath on that one.

Odds are he's going to sell us out to the insurance companies.
01:09 PM on 09/30/2009
How is he going to do that?

Bills are going to be reconciled by committee, even the Senate bill is likely to include the public option at this point.

Ok, why does the Senate get a whole week off for Columbus Day? For one thing, the holiday is one day, not one week. For another thing, the REST of us have to work that week! They are OUR employees, they should not get more vacation time than we do! Just like they should not get better health insurance than is available to every American.

Why do we even "celebrate" Columbus Day?

The man was a mass mur.derer who took a boatload of native slaves back to Spain.

01:06 PM on 09/30/2009
Kudo's to you Sen Reid!!! Let the repugs and conservative dems drag their feet....keep them in session no matter how long this takes....no overtime pay either...

Tell the repugs....put a stong public option in the senate bill..then you get Columbus Day off...Tell them not to make any plans for Thanksgiving either....we dont give thanks to fear-mongers
01:04 PM on 09/30/2009
Reid is doing the right thing for the health care debate. Baucus, Nelson, Carper, Conrad and Lincoln have called a press conference for this afternoon http://wp.me/pChUJ-j and it will be interesting.

You asked that earlier. Jealous? Interested in changing jobs.? (They probably DO have better benefits).

You'd probably be good in the present Congress as a Republican -- you've got a similar work ethic. Obstruct the President, at tack everything; contribute nothing, and take advantage of a system that was set up to voice the issues and concerns of the people for the purpose of identifying, airing and solving problems.

I'm sure there will be a few openings for the next go 'round.
01:11 PM on 09/30/2009
Jealous of what?
01:01 PM on 09/30/2009
So, Harry, do we get a public option?

Or do you want to stand naked and defend a health care reform bill that gives you no protection whatsoever from a republican claim that your plan will escalate costs into the stratosphere and bankrupt America?
