If we can't toughen up gun laws due to the obscene lobbying power of the NRA, then can we at least toughen up negligence laws relating to guns? Throw the book at parents who let these sorts of accidents happen, through heavy fines and jail time. If their children survive, take their kids away from them temporarily and force them to go to gun safety class. Teach them every gruesome statistic related to firearm tragedies... or take their gun rights away permanently if they don't comply. At least do not allow them to store guns in their home ever again.

For the less cautious or less intelligent among us there needs to be a clear threat to them personally before they will see the benefit of changing. Because the love they hold for their kids is not enough-- Threaten them!

This happens a lot more often than people realize. Until we hold these people accountable nothing will change. There is NO reason a child should have access to a loaded gun. NOT A ONE. And guess what? I can't think of a single case where the adults even had their firearms removed! And if the police tried you'd better believe the NRA would be front and center screaming about their second amendment rights being "infringed".

Constitutional convention. Rewrite the 2nd Amendment. Ban sale and possession of ALL GUNS now. Anything short of this will not correct this horrific situation. This isn't Dodge City in the 1800s, people. This is the 21st century. There is NO NEED of guns except in the hands of law enforcement and the military. If you think otherwise, you are paranoid and crazy and should seek help.

Because gun control and gun education aren't a problem or anything..

If they spend enough time with "responsible gun owners", that shouldn't be a problem.

Its ok, even 4 yr olds has the 2nd Amendment rights. We adults are crazy and why blame the kids. Biggest crazies are in Washington. The stupid parent who owns that stupid gun, should serve the prison sentence, it will teach that clown, the responsibility of owning a weapon

ENOUGH!

Is this going to be looked at as another unfortunate accident? Are we finally going to decide we love our children more than unlimited access to guns?
09:09 AM on 04/09/2013
Children aren't in The Constitution.
09:13 AM on 04/09/2013
Neither is unlimited access to guns. Good God. Do you have no decency? A child's life, yes life, could have been taken. And yes, Life is mentioned first in the constitution. Life. Life. Life.
09:16 AM on 04/09/2013
Children are covered by the time you get word to word 3 of the Constitution.

The NRA loves guns more that children, food, clothing, housing, sex and even TV, although that is a close second.

I'm wondering if the next mass.acre (and there WILL be one) will "take out" a whole mess of men this time ... 'cause you'll notice that it's been buildings full of defenseless teens, or defenseless women, or defenseless children.

And what kind of "real man" doesn't have a problem with THAT?

The kind of "real man" who cares for no one but himself yet dares to believe himself a "patriot".

The kind of man who feels vulnerable without a gun in his hands ... even though it seems its mostly not the men who are dying in these massacres.

That's what can happen if you leave an unsecured, loaded .22 rifle lying around with little kids present. Not smart. Not smart at all.
