Maybe a different headline that celebrated the life they lived together instead of hinting that it "ended"
It offended me and I would imagine it is offensive to the grieving husband and the family.

If you really want a flippant remark, here it it. First let me say, I love marriage and respect everyone who has gone through all the good and bad times and are still together, still in love. The remark: go through the before and afters and say "him" or "her" as to who aged better. It is really fun.
