The best way to honor Boston and Newtown's victims is to pull together as a country. The climate of hate and distrust in the U.S. is a breeding ground for violence. Remember the Civil War? My personal responbility in getting us back to one nation is to respect the office of the President, demand that the legislators forget about their parties and vote in the best interest of the country and to require facts when a ridiculous conspiracy theory is proposed.

Thank you Pres. Obama for supporting Boston in their time of great despair.

Despite what some posters here have written, I believe Pres. Obama going to Boston is the correct and compassionate step that is needed for the Boston community's healing to begin.

Of course he is. Haters will hate no matter what he does. Ignore them like the rest of the world does.

It happens quite often that when a disaster takes place in someone's life, they find religion.
This could be the event that helps our President to find God. I personally pray for him, and all of our leaders daily

Read his books. The President has already "found God." And the fact that you somehow don't believe it is a very clear signal that even if the man stood before you and told you his story to your face, you still wouldn't believe it.

Of course he is going, of course he should and of course he cares like most Americans! It would have been nice to see that, if only for this, the hateful comments could have been put aside, but that is apparently too much to hope for. My thoughts and prayers are with everyone who has been affected by this heinous act and with the law enforcement officials who are tracking down those responsible.

Why would he need to be an opportunist? He can't be re-elected. He has shown profound emotion on the Sandy Hook massacre and this tragedy and it is very sad that political hatred has to come out during a time like this.

In brief remarks to the nation yesterday on the Boston Marathon bombings, President Obama said that "we all have a part to play in alerting authorities. If you see something suspicious, speak up." In Washington, D.C., electronic signs urged commuters to be on guard. Law enforcement, big-city mayors and security experts all echoed that famous post-terrorism refrain: "If you see something, say something."

But who really means it?

In post-9/11 America, the truth is that our politically correct guardians only want you to see, say or do something if it can't be construed by grievance-mongers as racist, sexist, Islamophobic, homophobic, nativist or any other "-ist" or "-ic."

Thank you for that - I thought it was just me - couldnt come to grips to salute the flag 4 years ago - and he has no idea of the history in the city and the area - he remembers only when he was a young anti american activist at Harvard

No, they "really mean" it. They're interested in saving YOUR hide -- even as you, predictably, oppose their efforts. So why don't YOU get off the Post-McCain-Defeat-Anti-Government-Rant that we've all come to expect from the Right. We've heard it before and now, at this time of national tragedy, is not the time for it.

Why is he going to Boston? The police needed to investigate this horrible act are going to be pulled away from that to make sure he is safe.

We get it, you want photo opps so you pretend to care. Just stay in Washington and work!

Exactly when did the Commander-In-Chief become the Mourner-In-Chief? While it's plain most Americans sympathize with the victims of any kind of horrific violence, why has it suddenly become necessary for the President himself to respond personally to every high profile tragedy or natural disaster? Can you imagine George Washington or Abraham Lincoln or any other past president traveling all over the country to attend every memorial service for the numerous victims of violence in wild-wild West America? Is this what we want our President doing in these trying times of terrorism, war, economic catastrophe, and social upheaval? Wouldn't a high-level surrogate such as the First Lady, a political operative, or even the VP do in some of these circumstances. Don't get me wrong. I realize how important it is to present a united stance in the face of disaster, I'm just saying the leader of the Free World shouldn't feel obligated to personally be a part of every memorial service. This, I believe, is the result of Mr. Obama's enemies who would savage him if he did not attend, but still criticize him for politicizing such acts. The modern media is also to blame with their eager exploitation of tragedies to build their sagging ratings. I only pay attention long enough to get the facts and tune in intermittently when they have some new information. By the time they get to non-stop exploitation of victims and their families I've long since tuned out.

He is doing what every President does in a situation like this! GWB standing on the rubble at the WTC, bullhorn in hand is no different than what this president is doing. It is called leading the country, something you obviously know nothing about!

How are you leading a country by attending memorial services after every tragedy? Leading the country is doing something about our terrible economy, gun violence, immigration reform, gay rights, etc. Something you obviously care little about since you're more concerned about perception rather than reality.

What does this reply have to do with my comment. There are plenty of opportunities, real or imagined for you to get in shots against the President. That wasn't what I was saying. I'm not blaming the President. I'm blaming the Republicans for being so disingenuous and forcing the man into being overly concerned about projecting a certain image rather than concentrating on solving our real problems.

I understand it is being held in a church - not really "inter-faith" is it? What happend to separation of church and state? - Boston is a big city, I'm certain there is an appropriate, neutral facility to conduct the service.

Services are conducted according to the victim's or family's faith and direction.. It is called Freedom of Religion. The Government is not sponsoring these services. Our Government officials are also free to worship in the faith of thier choice. Is that so hard to understand?

read with comprehension the seperation clause, establishing a national religion is against the constitution not attending a service. Freedom OF and from religion.

I am no fan of Obama but there is not a thing he can do right now except get in the way of the people trying to do their jobs. Better just stay where he is and use his muscle to break any bureaucratic log jams that would result from a major investigation involving numerous government agencies. This is what Bush should have done years ago with Katrina and this is what President Obama needs to do.
