A permanent injunction ought to easily stop that ridiculous law from ever taking effect.
06:10 PM on 10/08/2009
That is probably easier said than done in that part of the world. I'm right across the border (some of our customers are Oklahomans) and it's like a whole other world there, believe me.
06:17 PM on 10/08/2009
Gotta get a judge to approve it ... which is unlikely.
05:56 PM on 10/08/2009
We have a similar reporting law in Kansas.

Kansas won't change until more moderates bother to participate in the election process.

I've worked in the Kansas Statehouse, and the moderates and Liberals have but ourselves to blame. Pro-Lifers are compelled into public service because they care so much about a singular issue. They dominate the state legislature, local school boards and even water and planning districts.

If we want to take back our government from the religious right, then we moderates have to find the time to serve in public office. That is not the case, because most think the sacrifice is too great, and they are correct. The Pro-Lifers are rewarded in their minds by much more than a meager salary.

Does the Kansas law redefine ectopic pregnancies and miscarriages as abortions like the Oklahoma law does?
06:02 PM on 10/08/2009
A miscarriage is typically referred to as a spontaneous abortion in medicine, everywhere- not just in Kansas.
06:13 PM on 10/08/2009
Can't say, but the stats are gathered and reported by our Department of Health as a statistic along with births, the number of food poisonings or flue outbreaks. The law would seem benign, but the Pro-Life lobby just uses the stats to build their case against the individual clinics.

I think the women in AZ need to contact the women in OK. Get your "walking boots" on, ladies.

It is enough to make one think that every legislator in that state is a direct descendant of Oral "send me eight million or I'll di.e" Roberts.

I know there are a lot of men who support a woman's right to choose, but there aren't enough of them to actually stop this kind of harassment from taking place.

Maybe it’s time feminist fight fire with fire. Let’s start passing laws to force mandatory vasectomies, once a male hits puberty. Their sperm is placed on ice until they are married and their wife gives permission for impregnation. Minus medical reasons, abortion problem solved. No need to worry about unwanted pregancies.

Yes I know it sounds radical, but that's the point. Until men fear losing their privacy rights and forced into something they don't agree with, they will continue to sit idly by or support anti-abortion measures.

Seems like a clear beach of privacy. I imagine both Dems and Republicans are upset at this unnecessary intrusion of government into a person's life.

Michelle Bachman must be outraged!

Right?

It seems like the GOP are set on attacking women's rights and honestly, I just can't believe that Republicans would believe that their s3xism is endearing to women.

So I don't think it'll fly, but that said if they pass it somehow, under handily, next will be your DNA
are nut job right wingers willing to give that up? especially to insurance companies with mighty strong computers?

I wonder what some of our libertarian friends have to say about this violation of a woman's privacy. They don't ask you this much when you get married, do they?

Coming from Oklahoma under normal circumstances, this wouldn't surprise me.

But NOW?

At this COST?

In THIS economy?

Why not use that money to PAY FOR actual HEALTH CARE?

Coburn and his cohorts say they we can't afford health care for our citizens, yet NOW they have EXTRA money in their budget, to spend on SHAMING their constituents?

Whats wrong with this picture?

Once again, PUNITIVE trumps POLICY for the Repubs.

THIS is the type of ABSOLUTE WASTE that is pervasive throughout our government, on both the state AND national levels. THIS is what President Obama intends to remove from our budget. AND the type of ABSOLUTE WASTE that the Republicans keep shoveling back in.

The savings from CANCELING this type of budgetary expenditure is EXACTLY what would help us PAY for the single payer or public option health care that the Repubs and the Blue Dog's are actively denying the American public.

ENOUGH with the games. We NEED help NOW!.

For all the men who are against abortion on this thread. Do us all a favor.

Cut your b@!!s off so it's impossible to impregnate any women. Then they won't be able to get abortions.

You also won't be able to pass on your inept genes.

It's a win-win situation for all of us.
