Excellent article. But, of course, all the Obama-blamers and Islam-bashers will not read it.

The mother, once again, seems more and more odious the more I read about her. She says he was “handsome like Hercules" and his body was "a masterpiece." Sounds like she was crucial in helping to turn him into an arrogant monster.

Once again, we see the example of a male who faces obstacles, doesn't get to attain what they wanted, who hits a frustration, and then just changes and resorts to violence.  We have seen it over and over within the mass killings here in the United States.  Tamerlin, like many of the young men we have seen who have resorted to mass murder and killing of innocents, faced some tribulations.  He wasn't a citizen, as he had emigrated much, much later than had his father and younger brother, and did not get to see his dream in boxing occur.  Had he stuck with it, not radicalized and not been placed in government questioning due to his growing radicalization, he too may have become eligible for citizenship and been able to continue with his boxing.

Instead, he lashed out at the country he had chosen to enter, and he was prime for radicalization...he was angry, felt defeated by circumstances, so he was going to hate the country he had chosen.  His failures led to his radicalization and being alienated is prime territory for radicalization, but it is no excuse.  We have people who come here from around the world who struggle and they have the personal integrity to endure and most prosper compared to their situation before emigrating here.  Tamelin lacked the internal boundaries to persevere, so he chose the alienation and radicalization which permitted him to see himself and other Muslims as being victimized by America.  He wasn't victimized by America, he chose not to work, he chose not to persevere and make other dreams, and then he lashed out at innocent people and even children.

Tamelin was a worthless piece of crap who lacked the fortitude and the resilience to regroup and make other dreams and to succeed.  He did what cowards and personality disorders do and that is transfer their failure onto others, onto society and onto innocent people.  Let's face it, look at the individuals who have been the shooters and mass murderers of innocents in this country and they are all males who have faced situations, most often of their own doing, who didn't seek help, who didn't take their medications, didn't change their dreams, who didn't work and try to make their lives a vision of what they wanted.  No one victimized Tamelin and no one victimized those who have participated in this slaughter of innocents.  They all were males who victimized others and lashed out at others because of their own failures and their own problems which they failed to address.  I am sick of it and sick of males who do this.  We have not had a single female who resorts to this behavior.

This isn't about males.  Just look at his mother who it now appears had a major role in radicalizing him.  She is just as guilty and guess what?  She is a woman.

Not quite as guilty - she didn't carry the bombs or shoot people; but she Definitely had & has serious problems & probably encouraged her eldest, who in turn encouraged the younger son, who idolized his big brother.

It was his idea to come. He came long after his father and brother had come. He came here because he wanted to take his boxing further, and didn't qualify for citizenship because of his behavior, so he lashed out. The country is going to need to address what we are going to do when individuals visit areas where terrorists train, have been there for a period of time and then return. I try to be fair, but if someone visits Pakistan, Yemen, Afghanistan, Somalia, the Sudan and other training areas for a period of time, they may well either need to be denied return or notified that if they select to go for more time than what would be a normal visit of family, that they may be denied re-entry. That may sound harsh, but it is clear many have become radicalized and visited areas and they can become weapons for the radicals.

Please bother to find out what your "terms" mean - perhaps a dictionary? "Entitlements" are Programs that people have PAID INTO from their PAYCHECKS & they deserve that money Back - With Interest: they are "entitled" to their own money. If they had invested it into the Stock Market most of it would be gone to Brokers who gambled recklessly with it. Instead we let a GW Bush put his sticky fingers into OUR MONEY & Never even Tried to pay it back.
08:13 AM on 04/28/2013
Two things make me laugh about you. (1) You are a liberal who can still reference Bush for ANY topic and (2) you didn't even say anything of substance about the main idea of my comment. Thanks for the lesson on entitlement though. Invaluable.
09:04 AM on 04/28/2013
Excuse me - NOBODY pays into food stamps, Medicaid orTANF out of their paychecks. These are funded out of the Federal budget with no direct deductions from paychecks; only out of tax dollars.

Medicare and Social Security, yes, these are deductions from paychecks.

All are called "entitlements" because you are "entitled" to the money by virtue of your poverty or age. IMO calling Medicare and Social Security "entitlements" is a misnomer.

Pre-med. Maybe he had the brains to make it through medical school. Highly doubtful that he had the self-discipline or the drive it takes to become a doctor. It's all hypothetical anyway with the track record he had at UMass, there is no way he would be admitted to any legitimate medical school:
[[[According to a university transcript reviewed by The New York Times, he was failing many of his classes. The transcript shows him receiving seven failing grades over three semesters, including F’s in Principles of Modern Chemistry, Intro to American Politics and Chemistry and the Environment. According to the transcript, Dzhokhar received a B in Critical Writing and a D and D-plus in two other courses.]]

Sorry, but any parents that name their kid after Tamerlane -- one of the most horrific mass murderers in human history -- are asking for trouble.
05:27 AM on 04/28/2013
Maybe the name is popular in Chechniya/Dagestan, and has lost the association with the historic figure?

Let's hope names like Hitler and Stalin never lose their 'historical associations.'
07:00 AM on 04/28/2013
Names like that must run in the family. The younger son was named after the capital of Chechnya. It is Grozny. But during the first war it was Dzokhar-Ghala. Chechen separatists sometimes refer to the city as Dzhokhar or Djohar.

My point was that a name like Tamerlane running in the family says something about the family. It's like naming a kid Hitler. The historical figure of Tamerlane is known for having accomplished absolutely nothing other than mass murder. His most memorable achievement was the mountains of human skulls he erected during his campaigns in India.

The question is STILL the same - why was he here?

Why did the CIA have him on a watch list and the FBI remove him from theirs?
Why was he able to travel back to the land his parents claimed they needed asylum from - and why are they now living there?
Why was he allowed to stay in this country after domestic violence charges?

WHY WAS HE HERE - Why was anyone in his radicalized family living in Boston where he/they were a danger to US Citizens? I do not care if he was upset he could box - WHY WAS HE HERE?

Tamerlan's friend and boxer, Brendon Meek was murdered in 2011along with two Jews. .The perpetrator is unknown.I believe that Tamerlan had a manipulator who wanted Meek out of the picture because Meek kept Tamerlan in touch with moderates.
A man named Misha was mentioned as having lenghly contact with Tamerlan.

Tamerlan Tsarnaev is not a victim. In 2009, Mr. Tsarnaev won the New England Golden Gloves Championship in the 201-pound divison...it was the same year he was arrested for domestic battery...Tsarnaev had an eye for the ladies, just ask his wife.

Another boxer named Mike Tyson also had problems. He took a different route by going to jail instead of blowing up people. The Terrorists placed a bomb at the feet of a child...what more is there to say about these animals?

I disagree. If "these animals" refers to people who blow up children, or do other horrific acts, they I think kind and decent people can use it of other people. If "these animals" refers to people of a particular people group, race, creed, sexual orientation, gender, age, height or any other arbitrary feature then I do agree with you.

I hate these animals who do so much harm to other people. These guys in Boston, Adam Lanza, and anybody else who does something so horrific against innocent people deserves my ire.

I hope she is surrounded by loving people who accept her and don't burden her with too much for what her father did. She's going to have to make her peace with it someday, but if she's loved and respected it'll make it a lot easier for her. If any of us goes deeply enough into our family tree we'll find someone like this. I'm sure her dad had good qualities as well as whatever drove him to do what he did. I hope she's able to think of him that way.
