Some people downplay Collins' talent as an NBA player. Given that there  360 to 450 players among the 30 teams in the league, that puts him in pretty rarified air. .00015% of the population.
Any person who plays in the NBA is an extraordinary athlete.

Got to love haters. There is a reason he was playing. They don't pay you that kind of money especially at his age if there isn't a need for you.

If it is going to be a real good gay and lesbian event, you just know that Barack wants in on it.

Tickets start at $1,250 per person and go up to $32,400 per couple to chair the event.

Yikes, that's too expensive. I know, it's a fundraiser. I guess one way to do it would be to find 1,250 people who would put in a dollar and do a raffle.

On the day that the POTUS, called Collins, thanking him for his courage and offering him his support. Another man SFC. Roberts, finished Air Assaut school for the Army. Air Assault school is a very demanding form of traing designed to improve helicopter deployment. It weeds out the weak really fast. Whats so specail about SFC. Robert? Well he's an amputee. He lost a leg in a far away land for Mr. Obama and Mr. Bush. Roberts broke two prothetic legs during the training but acheived his mission. This man has yet to get a phone call from the President. I guess my idea of courage and Mr. Obama's are two completely different things.

Really. Do you not think that President Obama would find him a hero too. But there is a difference here. Hero SFC Roberts achieved a personal wonderful accomplishment. That shows phenomenal personal courage, just like so many of our brave men and women. However, what Jason Collins represents is a new beginning for millions of gays in the country. The beginning of a recognition that we are all over society including in professional sports. He is the first in our modern era to come out to take a stand in one of the major male sports. One that will hopefully inspire our gay athletic youth to pursue their own lofty dreams of competing at the highest level in sports. He is in fact a Hero just like so many of our military, including our gay military. I happen to know several who have done multiple tours in our hottest war zones. They too are heros. And thankfully they can finally be free to be who they truly are.

Your sensational post though bringing attention to a deserving SFC Roberts is wholly misplaced. This type of thing can be done just about every day on every issue.

At only $1250 a ticket starting out, is this event sold out yet? I'll bet there's a rush on to get one. C'mon everyone, put your money where your mouth is and support this. Going to be one of the biggest event during Obama's presidency. Yee-Haa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is a fundraiser. If it were a GOP fundraiser the fees might be double. And don't know if you noticed but the First Lady is attending not the President. However, wouldn't it be awesome if he showed up. I guess you were too busy to bother actually reading what it was about.

I wasn't referring specifically to this person, but to all those who realize that honesty is the best policy, and hold their heads high while pursuing their chosen path.  A person's sexuality is no-one else's business, but those who have had success and then address a subject formerly considered taboo... to me, is a hero.

African American, gay and in professional sports ( which is well known to be homophobic for too long ). I would listen to what he says because he's a positive anomaly in the otherwise divisive arena. I want to see him encourage and empower others like him to be proud of who they are in the face of so much bigotry and ignorance. I want him to continue to empower youths and further emphasize the importance of allowing children and angst-ridden adolescents feel comfortable and safe growing up to be who they want to be, and do what they want to do. Lets continue to rid ourselves of hate and discrimination in this ( albeit progressing ) volatile social and political climate.

Millions of people are gay, who cares?
02:49 PM on 05/06/2013
Well, if the right were not so nasty and oppressive towards LGBT, non of those people would have to brave coming out, would they?

You bigots want it both ways---for gays to keep hiding in the closet or be criticized for coming out. And you can forget your "shallow" pitch"----it's worse to be mean-spirited like your crowd.
