I think this is a great idea! We need some new ideas out there for our pol sci majors. Teach them how to do it!

Many thought, as did I, that Plouffe should be an advisor in the Administration. However, it may have been the plan all along to have him remain on the outside. This way he can swoop in for the 2012 re-election campaign and not have to be deprogrammed from 4 years of Washington exposure.

Plouffe: You are needed at the White House. Its a hot mess over there.

Obama, fire Valerie Jarrett. She is about the WORST adviser I have ever seen. It was her brilliant idea for him to go to Denmark and she screws up her talking points far too often and looks flustered when talking to the press. I know she's a friend, but she is way in over her head.

I agree with your assessment of Jarrett 1000000%.

She is lame, not only does she fumble her responses she has a voice only Sarah Palin can out do.

Crackling and distracting.

I agree with both of you, I don't like how Jarrett is sort of latched on to Obama.

Maybe they can enlist James Carville and Mary Matlin to guest lecture ... as a team of course.

Glad to hear it. Former foes make good allies. Because if the GOP is held hostage to their neocongelical base and strong armed into running Sarah Palin in 2012 - Steve knows her every weak point. Her every foible. Her every little stupidy. Motivation. Likely reaction. And considering the bad blood between Failin' Palin and Steve, he'd enjoy telling David about her. You betcha. ;-)

I think these true political professionals are skilled at the tools of their trade, which they could deploy with any ideology. These guys could, and many of their peers have, go to Moscow to manage a Putin Campaign, stop in Beijing to help out Hu, and finish in Olso on the campaign of some socialist.

Oh sure. It's a skill like any other. Political strategy can be applied anywhere they need someone to size up a candidate or political product, study the people who need it to be sold to and then sell it.

Steve Schmidt I don't know much about. But I think it would come down to which he loves better. Being a Republican. Or being a paid political strategist. I just wonder if he loved the 2nd best, and was offered the chance to undo the woman who's spent the last year blaming him instead of her own lack of brains, and has even written a book that probably points her manicured nail at him specifically- I wonder if that wouldn't be a chance he'd gobble whole.

Agreed, he's a blue dog as far as I can tell...maybe even a little farther to the left because of his stance on gay marriage.

I think one of the big mistakes the Obama administration made was not putting Plouffe on the team. He is the mastermind who gave then candidate Obama the golden strategy that helped him win last year. He would have been a great PR guy for them now and would have came up with excellent strategies for the crazy tea party fiasco as well as the town hall screamers.

Plouffe is working for Governor Patrick of MA right now to help him with his re-election. Once that's done, though, I would love Plouffe to lead the White House's PR team.

Maybe Plouffle doesn't want to undergo the character assassination that goes with Washginton politics, thinks he can do more politically, professionally and personally where he is . Seems like he is doing some awesome things with his life right now.

It's always depressing when you first realize that pundits and political operatives from rival teams go out for beers together and ask about each others' kids once the TV cameras go dark. "Political theatre" is an apt expression.

I saw Steve Schmitt over the weekend on C-SPAN...he says that Tim Griffin has a great chance to beat Blance Lincoln in Arkansas. Does the name Tim Griffin ring any bells ? Think Karl Rove and the firing of the attorneys General. He replaced the US Attorney General Bud Cummins in Arkansas.

i was really hoping plouffe would use his talents to win key constituencies and turn the country a deep and lasting blue. maybe this position is one way to create many poluffes from one? all a girl can do is hope.

Wow....Schmidt is teaching a political strategy class.

Lesson 1 from him: Truth does not matter.

Another funny thought, maybe Plouffe and Schmidt collaborated in 2008. If I wanted to make sure O won, I would have run a campaign just like Schmdt.
07:17 PM on 10/19/2009
You have a point. There were many times that you had to wonder. Schmidt ran what was possibly the worst campaign in political history. I wouldn't be too inspired by his performance. Maybe there is validity in those who can, do, and those who can't teach.

Lesson 2: When all else fails, find an unknown, inexperienced, word salad speaking, lipstick-wearing, hockey mom you can pawn off on people a maverick goin' rogue in $100,000 wardrobe. They'll call it political BS, but remember in the immortal words of Peggy "Is It Soup Yet?" Noonan, "Sometimes ya gotta keep on walkin'."
