He's a brave man. I hope he succeeds where others have failed. Monsanto, Dow, Cargill, Bayer, all pretty much run our government today thanks to the cowardice of our Congressmen and Senators on both sides of the aisle.

Imagine what the "Monsanto Protection Act" is--Congress and the president pass a law to slap down the judicial branch just so corporations won't be inconvenienced into figuring out less harmful ways to become our overlords.

I have a hard time seeing how Congress thinks it has the power to overturn the court's ruling.
What happened to separation of powers?
And where are all the "They're taking away our rights" freaks now?

They're probably thinking "I can't wait until our corporate masters become all-powerful! Then they will smite my enemies, and I will get more flies to eat!"

Monsanto employee?

Hmmm...Tester spoke against it but didn't filibuster it? Someone please help me understand the filibuster rule if he could not use the filibuster for procedural reasons.

Just one more sellout by Obama.
Good luck with the repeal, Jeff Merkley.

Even if a court blocks them, they could keep on selling? That's just crazy! This should be an issue Dems and Reps can agree on.

This is so terrible...it makes me sick!!! What the hell!

What we need first and foremost is to get rid of our president. He is the one approving of them. He wants to get rid of us all.
10:50 AM on 05/18/2013

"He wants to get rid of us all." Do you really see him as that evil? Where does that perception come from? He signed a bill with a criminal, last-minute provision shoved into it that he might not even have known about at the time. He should be reading entire bills before he signs them, or have reliable people tell him what's in them, including the last-minute stuff, but equating that with "he wants to get rid of us all"???

President Obama appointed Monsanto executives as secretaries of USDA and FDA. He's all for biotech, and is a friend to Monsanto. Surely he knew the rider was in the Continuing Resolution he signed.

If terrorists poison the food supply, they get arrested and sent to Guantanamo forever without trial.  If a corporation poisons the food supply, they get immunity from prosecution.  The Monsanto protection act ensures that Monsanto can literally sell us poisoned food and get away with it.  They don't even have to label it as poisonous.
10:51 AM on 05/18/2013
we need labelling and less of obama touting safety of which he knows nothing.

First we need to repeal this and then we need to out the creep that included it in the first place.

It's no secret (any more) who wrote the Monsanto rider. He admitted writing it with Monsanto's "help."

It was Senator Roy Blunt, R-MO. Blunt and Monsanto have a very cozy history.

Somebody needs to stand up to the bully called Monsanto. Obviously Merkley has balls, but do the rest of congress who have been bought out by the 1%. Probably too late anyway because our bee populations have dropped by a third because of Monsanto and similar criminal companies. You are going to hear a lot about bee issues next year. GMO's are poison, now they are even putting this poison in infant formula. I feel like I am living a nightmare every time I go to the grocery store. Next up, repeal the Patriot Act.
10:53 AM on 05/18/2013
we do not want gmo foods and especially in our babys food and formula. get mr gmo (obama) out. he has chosen to continue monsanto greed and monopolization.

Its nice to know that there are still some in congress that actually want to work for the people.

YES! The whole bill as written by the House of Non-Representatives need to be repealed. They need to increase the food stamps money and remove the Corporate Welfare given to BIG AG!
