Less than 1% of accidents are caused by people who test between .05 and .08. Enough already.

Exactly!!!!

Granted most States now go by 0.08 to be leagaly intoxicated BUT if you 'blow a 0.04 you will be charged with a OUI ,DUI . A lot of people don't know/realize this,so you see you don't have to have 4.5.6 drinks at all and if they lower it to 0,05 that means if you had an 0.03 then you'd be hit with a DUI-OUI,that's about 1 -1 1/2 beers, glass of wine ect ect. So next time you stop in for a beer there's a good chance if you get stoped within that hour you will be going to jail. Keep it where it is,the one's who complain the most are the one's who don't drink anyway.

Only if you fail a field sobriety test, and if you do, you should not be driving, since that shows you are impaired.
09:54 PM on 05/20/2013
Sobriety tests don't show you're impaired. They show a cop made you nervous enough not to perform an asinine task perfectly.

just don't allow alcohol to be served in restaurants or bars. I went out the other night for dinner and wanted to have a glass of wine, but noticed the over abundance of police cars in the area. So I and my friend cut the evening short and went home. It was good in a way I did not spend anymore money and did not run the risk of an expensive DUI.

Just don't allow restaurants to stay in business then.. Alcohol consumption is a matter of personal responsibility. This will for the meantime upon enactment kill the bar and restaurant business.

Bad idea. We don't need to clog up the criminal justice system with people who drove home after having one drink. The habitual DUI offenders aren't driving with levels of .07 - this change won't put the most dangerous people in jail at all.

sounds like the government is pushing drugs must be payback to the drug dealers in Mexico that paid for there campaign and voted them into office

Most of the accidents are caused by cronic drunks that consistantly drive while already way over the 0.08 limit. These "feel good " laws are just eroding your freedoms. What's next? Hey, I know. Let's make government mandated breathalizers installed in all the cars. Oh, and hidden GPS units so they allways know where you are and if you are going a mile or two over the speed limit. Enforce the existig laws on the books. You can't legislate a law for every stupid thing that people do. If I were a drinker that chose to drive drunk, I would love the fact that the police would be hassling the regular folks and give me more camouflage. It's hard to pick one tree out of the forest.

An average sized woman can not even have one drink. The bars will be full of people drinking water.

The bars will become stool museums. Anyone leaving a bar and getting into a car would shortly thereafter be in a squad car.

but even those who represent the Zero Tolerance movement drink and one of the mothers who lost her child in a DUI and was one of the founders of the movement was cited with a DUI.

Alcohol is more destructive than almost any other drug. Bring back Prohibition! See how you drunks like what has been done to Pot!

Sure, bring back Prohibition and watch organized crime skyrocket again.

if we put breathalyzers in cars then social drinkers wouldn't need to try and guestimate their BAC based on experience and "how they feel."
10:09 AM on 05/20/2013
We can solve this problem by banning cars. 1) No one would die in car wrecks. 2) Everyone would look better and live longer because they would have to walk everywhere. It is clearly a win win!

the smoking ban was supposed to kill restaurants, and they didn't die. They are better. This isn't going to do a hill of beans. If you are responsible, you will have one beer or a glass of wine. 3 beers and you are over the limit. either limit.

The world would be a much safer place if there was zero tolerance for alcohol and driving and zero tolerance for talking on the phone and driving.

And how many DUIs have you had OR have you lost a loved one in an auto accident caused by a drunk driver? We need to think of the good of all people and not just your selfish A--. Have someone else drive if you must drink or call a taxi. Use your brain.

Actually, I think it would be a good idea to have a zero tolerance for any alcohol consumption when driving. Drinking and driving don't mix, period. If you drink, don't drive. It is that simple. Have someone else drive if you drink. Call a taxi.

This is actually false. It's been shown that people with a little bit of alcohol in their blood drive better than those who don't have any. I remember this from my drivers training class because I asked why that is and the instructor said it was a statistical anomaly. I checked into this further and it is not an anomaly. It is as a direct result of the calming effect of a small amount of alcohol which improves performance similarly to beta-blockers. It reduces over-reaction and tension. So, you are just flat out wrong. I will accept a public apology.

At the .02 blood alcohol concentration level, experiments have demostrated that people exhibit some loss of judgment, begin to relax and feel good. But tests have also shown that drivers at the .02 level experience a decline in visual functions, affecting their ability to track a moving object, and experience a decline in the ability to perform two tasks at the same time.
These changes may be very subtle and barely noticable to the person who has had only one drink, but in an emergency situation while behind the wheel of a vehicle, they could cause the driver to react (or not react) as they would without having had a drink
THAT IS THE PROOF.
