Who cares? Just like Smokes and drugs, if someone wants it they will find a way to get it. Even on food stamps and unemployment. I personally will not buy any alcohol that requires bending down at a store, the cheep nasty stuff any lower then the third shelf is reserved for cheep alcoholics... I am sorry Drunkards, alcoholics go to meetings. When I was young my friend and I would do an entire 1.75 of the $10 stuff in one night. Now it takes me 2 months to finish a bottle of the expensive stuff. If people are going out and drinking daily then we need to worry more then the shortage of booze, we need to worry about the reason for the population self medicating.

I remember some years back when Jack Daniels issued a press release that the stream that runs along their Lynchburg, Tennessee distillery (which they claim gives their sour mash its' exceptionally smooth flavor, or something like that) was beginning to dry up due to regional drought at the time. Not too long after, their prices went up and the alcohol level was lowered from somewhere around 90 proof to 80 proof. Safe to say, they resorted to watering down their trademark libation, on top of raising prices across the board. I guess that stream wasn't so dry after all. I haven't bought the stuff since, don't particularly like being lied to.

Yep..You can tell the economy is bad when people make a run on whiskey and guns....
04:52 PM on 05/24/2013

You're more likely to find the booze in Montana... than the ammo...bricks of 22's are hard to come by and only last a few hours in the store....guns? are a dime a dozen. Bought 3 through private sales in 2 weeks!  I already have the hat!  LOL...

Need to blame this on Obama. If that can be done everyone will believe it and accept it.

Not my favorite bourbon, but I'm disappointed nonetheless. I've just discovered bourbons myself, so I take some of the blame for the recent shortage. Delicious.

The best Bourbon is over 80, and under 2. Not too long in the barrel, and a minimum of 86 proof. Evan Williams is excellent, and cheap. Ancient Age and Heaven Hill make fine sour mash, and neither is considered fancy.

Scotch is best if it follows the same principle. It's better young and strong. No more than 12 years, and fewer is better.

The fascination with 15, 18, 24, 30 year batches is conspicuous consumption, pure and simple. Aging takes all the fight out of a whisky. Makes it mellow.

If I wanted mellow, I'd drink the brown vodka they call whisky in Canada.

You're calling Evan Williams rot gut? Is it because it's too reasonably priced for you?

The military-industrial complex thinks American defense needs more investment. I'll bet you believe them too, right?

And my leaking faucet in the bathroom ... thanks Obama !

I guess that's why he won re-election with such a comfortable margin.
And why his Poll numbers went up, even after the IRS problems surfaced.
Yeah ... nobody likes him ... except for the majority of Americans.
LOL

Thank you for pointing out that our happiness is not dependent on who's President. And that we all need to take responsibility for our own lives. And for doing it in a funny way!

My father went and bought several bottles of Buffalo Trace recently because of this, but on his behalf it is what he normally drinks. Now if I can only find a reliable source of genever I'll be in business.

So?

Reference the HuffPo piece about the "Caramel-Color[ed] Rubbing Alcohol"...that should solve any problems of shortage.

The last time I walked into a BevMo, the whiskey section was fully stocked. The same goes for my local grocery store and liquor store. So, where's the shortage?
