Occupy was the first response after Sandy. They helped more with immediate needs than the Red Cross,or the Nat Guard. This shows what the people can do .

Ever since Libby Dole headed the Red Cross,it has been an example of corporate intrusion into helping people. The 9-11 blood scandal showed the Red Cross is about making $,not distributing first response aid.The corporate model doesn't work in disasters ,nor in government.

This is why you should give money to the other organizations. This is the same thing the Red Cross was criticized over after Katrina and 9/11. Wake up. History repeats itself. Look in to Bloombergs funds.

"Part of the delay in spending, officials said, is to wait to see how the hardest-hit states allocate a $60 billion pot of federal relief dollars and address gaps in the government aid package." - A government aid package that was delayed in no small part by REPUBLICANS in congress. Chiefly among them the Senators from Oklahoma.

I'm always amazed that so many haven't figured out the Red Cross and other "charity" orgs. Have we all forgotten the 9/11 scandals of keeping all of those donations in their bank account and how many years since the Haiti earthquake and people are still living in tents? These are very profitable scams.

It's been almost a year since Sandy, what's going on? This money has obviously NOT gone to help all of those who's lives were ruined by this storm. Why is it, that when a lot of money is put aside to help, why don't the people who need it most get it? Look what happened to the money put aside for those who's lives were effected during 9/11, most of the money never got to them. this is the same thing. The red cross has a serious problem, maybe investigators need to search their paper work to make sure the money hasn't been siphoned off somewhere. I think the only reason that aid money doesn't get to those who it was intended for, is because someone is stealing it at the source. Red Cross looks pretty shady at the moment.

Great strategy. Please give me a whole bunch of money and then I'll wait to see what I might do with it to help those whose lives have already been destroyed.

Nothing new for the Red Cross.

What are people supposed to do as they wait and wait and wait......

Whether the assistance being held back is at the Federal Level or the Red Cross organization level, when people are TOTALLY SCREWED NOW, why wait? Wait for what?

Once the needs have been identified and verified, why the delay? It was donated to given out.

I understand that Staten Island received next to nothing from The Red Cross for clean-up efforts. New Orleans received their aid immediately. Can you say liberal hypocrisy?

Explain why you think it's a liberal hypocrisy exactly?

Staten Island is conservative - New Orleans is liberal. Nuff said.

The Red Cross has to make sure they have enough money on hand to pay the outrageous salaries of its officers. Check out Charity Navigator BEFORE you donate to ANY charity, please, and you will see where the money really goes.

Really, I've checked the Red Cross out and they have an excellent record spending donations, something like 94% is used for the work. You sound like Donald Trump.

Guess the obscene salary of over $500,000 + benefits for the president is okay with you. That money could do a world of good for people who really NEED the money.

Agree and now there are going to be lots more donations for Oklahoma

To All Concern Regarding the American Red Cross:

We all know they are a scam. I was a volunteer for eight years and a whistleblower. I now have a petition to reform the American Red Cross but, I need your help and signatures. Please go to Care2.com and read and sign my Petition Reforming the American Red Cross. Nothing said, nothing gets done. Time for action is now. Thanks

Not that the ONLY group singled out for donations for OK by the president was the ARC!
