Those same U.N. peacekeepers that Israel claims to value for its security have ,more often than not , been the target of Israeli bullets, artillery, warplanes and propaganda. And it is not just the peacekeepers, and unarmed observers it has targeted in the past , but U.N. relief agency and agents as well. Bibi is a two faced scheming liar

Sorry, when has Israel attacked UN peacekeepers?

On 25 July 2006 four unarmed United Nations Truce Supervision Organization (UNTSO) peacekeepers from Austria, China, Finland and Canada were killed in an Israeli air strike on a UN observation post in southern Lebanon. According to the UN, the four had taken shelter in a bunker under the post, which was a three story building inside a patrol base in Khiyam. It had been shelled 14 times by Israeli artillery over a period of 6 hours. An Israeli plane then dropped a bomb, destroying the post. During the bombardment, the post called an Israeli liaison officer ten times to call off the bombardment.

A United Nations inquiry into attacks on UN personnel or facilities during the Gaza War concluded that Israel had fired on U.N. personnel or facilities on eight separate incidents.

Israel's threat is not from the Golan Heights, It's from their own paranoa, do Lebanese, Syrians, Jordanians, etc feel safer knowing Israel is flying over any time they please?

Are Palestinians safer as a human beings, being occupied by the Israeli regime?

Isn't it time Israel felt how everyone in the middle East been feeling the last 65 years? after all none of the others chose to be there, Israel did.
10:11 AM on 06/10/2013
That's funny, if what you are saying is true, which it isn't, for the first time in history, the Arabs of the Middle East are feeling the way Jews have felt for centuries.

Isreal's threat's haven't changed since the second day of their independence when overwhelming forces of Arabs attacked it!

Pali's will never be safe until they start doing something other than what they've done for the last 65 years, wait for someone to give them more "stuff" for free.

If the forces had been 'overwhelming', wouldn't Israel have been overwhelmed?

Patriots arriving by boat from elsewhere liberated the new nation from its inhabitants.

Except for when it has.
Like Iraq. And soon Iran.
And support the rebels in Syria.
And supporting Israel's allies in Egypt - oppressing its own people.

I write and call my elected officials regularly about my views on this. After all it is my tax money that Congress giving away to countries like Israel that neither need it, nor deserve it.

I view it as my obligation to express an opinion to Congress on this, and not just my right.

"....that the Jewish state can only rely on itself for security."
Sounds great! Because we could REALLY use those billions in economic and military aid that we send you annually, right here in America. So, thanks! And, if you could keep the spying against us to a minimum, that would be awesome as well....

With all recent scandals and enormous budgets spent on spying on Americans by NSA, all you care about is military aid to Israel? This what will save USA? Really?

And how about military and financial aids to other countries? Are they OK?

Humanitarian aid - fine. Military aid - not so fine. Kerry just GAVE $3.1 BILLION in military aid to one country - not Israel - so we are still on the same path.

Prime Minister Netanyahu is absolutely right. Israel must never depend on anyone else to do what is best for Israel in my view and there is a doctrine that if never forgotten will always hold Israel in good stead and that is the Begin Doctrine:

"On no account shall we permit an enemy to develop weapons of mass destruction (WMD) against the people of Israel"

Furthermore-If Israel had not made the unilateral decision to take out Egypt's Air Force before they could even lift off and attack them in 1967-there might not be an Israel today! The element of surprise is a Powerful Weapon!!

Israel would not need to be weary of its defense if it were establishe legitimately. What is good for israel is also good for who they consider their enemies.

Israel was establushed more legitimately then 99% of countries. It was established with the support of the majority of the worlds nations and with the apporoval of those who controlled the land at the time, the British.

I fail to understand how this comment from Netanyahu got parleyed into a hate Israel forum once again. While there are beefs on both sides of the borders, can't we restrict our comments to the relevant story at hand. The status quo since 1973 is that Israel is in de facto possession of the Golan Heights. The removal of UN troops will force Israeli forces to come to the de facto border with Syria. The possibility that something bad is going to happen as a result has indeed escalated.

Beefs on both sides of the borders??

Israel has abused, occupied and stolen from the Palestinians for over 50 years?
Do I have to list the crimes committed?
Why do you play the "ohhh I'm neutral, there is blame on both sides" card?

It's the Palestinian's historical lands. They are treated like dirt. They have no army. Do you know the conditions they live under? When they fight back with their pathetic home made rockets and ak rifles, Israel sends a 1st world army against them.

The status quo has nothing to do with anything. International law and human rights are international law and human rights.
11:07 AM on 06/10/2013
The Palestinians should respect human rights and international law themselves before they expect to get anything from them.

That the UN is removing its forces in the demilitarized zone between Israel and Syria as they once did in the Sinai Peninsula in 1967 (which led directly to the Six Day War) should be seen as ominous.

Once Assad has finished butchering his own people (80,000 estimated at the last count not that it seems to bother any commentators on HP), he may feel strengthened to attack Israel.

I know many of the anti-Israel and anti-Semitic crowd would cheer the possibility of a second Holocaust but that's not likely.

The biggest loss in this is the possibility that a future peace agreement with the Palestinians could have required Israel relinquishing military control of the Jordan Valley to be patrolled by UN troops. Now that the UN has proved for a third time to not be a trusted objective party, Israel will not take any steps that jeopardizes the safety of her population.
08:14 AM on 06/10/2013
How can you possibly believe what you are saying when Assad forces are barely capable of defending Syria from a rag tag group of volunteers. Get a grip and stop your warmongering.

Israel must be the most insecure and paranoid nation, to believe that:
Hamas with its home-made rockets and ak rifles are any kind of threat
That Assad who can barely fight inside his own country, wants to attack Israel

Just how insecure are you??
