Ok, so Temperature hasn't risen in 20 years...

So let's start talking about "unusual storms" which haven't even happened yet...

Let's talk about you telling a bald-faced lie.

Here's UAH temperatures over the past 20 years with a loess trend line:

http://tinypic.com/r/2vwy69f/5

Linear regression shows an average rise of +0.17354ÂșC per decade over the last 20 years. Yet you claim that there's no warming. Didn't bother actually examining what the temperature records showed, eh?

lived in Kansas all my life, never heard the term, derecho, had to look it up, they are pulling in new language, for bow echo. I highly doubt the storms will be very severe until 5 to 6 pm, when the heat is at its highest, and thus evaporation, you all know the process, i am hardly the meterologist , i cant even spell it. yeah take heed to the warning sirens, u can replace a house, not a life

Derechos occur as frequently at night as they do during daylight hours. They can happen anywhere east of the Rockies. A common term for what they produce is "straight line winds."

That line of storms went through here last night with high winds, lightning, rain, and hail.

No tornados of which I am aware.

There had to be some local flooding, but I don't know the extent.

Supposedly we got .49 inches of precipitation in about 45 minutes.

There were 2 tornadoes 20 minutes from my house. I was out watching for them.

To be a good meteorologists you have to get at least 50% of the prediction right. The only thing that most of the meteorologists can get right is the sun rise and sun set.

You should read a book called The Children's Blizzard...and see how things turn out without a National Weather Service. There are any number of people who are not alive because they didn't heed weather warnings... they're probably only missed by their families. I'll take their best guess over no warning at all.

thinkingwomanmillstone: so what? Social Darwinists don't care. When they hear about needless deaths, they think, "Good, more for me, including the money the government might have spent on updating our weather analysis and prediction systems to match Europe's more advanced one if greedy reactionary fools with their eyes fixed on the triumphs of the Robber Barons of late 19 century America would stop blocking public spending for the public good (in which they do not believe).

We can prevent and reduce many weather disasters in USA, if we will admit: theory that GHGs are responsible for climate is the most dangerous mistake in science.

We had increasing acreages of wildfires-3,000,000-2001 and 10,000,000-2012.
We had drought of 2010, 2011, 2012;
In last 20 years the biggest damages were from hurricanes between 2004 and 2012.

GHGs are distributed around the globe during few weeks.
THEY CAN'T BE RESPONSIBLE, for repeated disasters in USA.

Restoration of sources of evaporation-regrowing dead forests, affected by killer beetles;
making all our ponds, lakes, streams, creeks, rivers deeper and wider to collect spring and any rain water;
building systems to relocate water from flooding areas to dry

All of these directions plus many more could create millions of jobs in USA and return of investment after 6 months, or 18 months if we will late for 2013.
They will reduce our emergency spending on all weather disasters in trillions of dollars.
Without these jobs it will be worse in 2013, 2014, 2015...

We must start today, because we are late, we must start it at least 10 years ago.

i rarely comment on someones grammar as mine is horrible, but maybe next time define the abbreviation before you use it. ghg=green house gases, i even looked at the other posts to see if someone else used it and you were responding to it, no big deal though, and you are right, but i do not think we can reverse any of the damage we have already done. Deepening lakes, rivers, streams, creeks, i don't think that is on any ones priority bucket list
02:42 PM on 06/12/2013
Sorry, I will not use abbreviation in future; English is second language for me.
We must restore sources of evaporation in USA and Canada. We could do it with profit and solving all economical problems in USA:
1. Build small power plants in all dead forests, affected by killer beetles between 2000 and 2012 (more than 100,000,000 acres in USA and Canada); use wood as the cheapest source of energy for electricity, heat, hot water production. It is ten times better than emergency spending on wildfires. By the way if decay of dead forests and wildfires will anyway emit GHGs, this direction to produce energy WILL BE WITH ZERO EMISSION.
2. CLEAN AREA FROM DEAD TREES AND REGROW FORESTS.
3. Make all our ponds, lakes, streams, creeks, rivers deeper and wider, build reservoirs to collect spring water.
4. Start building systems to relocate water from flooding areas to dry, which will secure USA from drought years ahead.
Profit from harvest of 2013, from energy production, from reducing emergency spending on wildfires and hurricanes will cover all expenses for creating millions of local jobs in all states of USA. Return of investment will be in 8 months.
Farmers, unemployed from housing and forestry industries could make it happen. They have needed machinery and skills. Scientists, engineers will be also welcome to provide the best scientific and engineering solutions.
These jobs by their nature will never go overseas despite globalization. They will provide real revenue for Government.

We have unique possibilities to create scientific experiment WITH PROFIT, to evaluate science of climate change. In my opinion, this science is right that climate change is real. It is deadly wrong in explanation of reason for climate change. If we will follow advices from this science it will bring damage to the world population bigger than WW1&WW2 did together.
If this experiment will be successful we could fight climate change with profit by only USA, Canada, Mexico.
North America between Atlantic, Pacific, and Arctic influence climate from France to Japan.
IF WE WILL NOT DO THESE DISASTERS WILL ONLY INCREASE IN 2013, 2014...

I don't know what's worse: your grammar or that you refuted your own position in your second paragraph. An increase in greenhouse gases has caused an increase in severe weather. However, I do agree with you that we should be doing things in advance like regrowing forests and building reservoirs.
03:14 PM on 06/12/2013
1. Sorry for grammar. English is second language for me.
2. "An increase in greenhouse gases has caused an increase in severe weather." You are wrong here the same as scientists of climate change. If you want to discuss my reasoning, despite of my grammar, please let me know.

this really isn't going to happen...ya know ???...the climate deniers say so !!!!

I am Cherokee...and my Elders have predicted a monster storm that will be coming !!!!...this storm that is coming now will be a very mild storm compared to what the Elders know is coming !!!!...the big storm that will come is called The Black Thunder !!!!!...there will be four monster tornados...the largest ever seen...they will destroy everything ... (one from each direction) they will come together in the mid-west and go East...when they hit New York City...it will be totally annihilated...NYC is as large as a small mountain range...oh...and the Earth-quake that happened in Tahiti (I think) knocked the Earth off of Her Axis three degrees !!!!!

As far as I can tell, a derecho is an effect along the front of a squall line, much like a tornado is an effect from a supercell. Dog is in the details. Fun derecho fact: According to this site, the word "was coined by Dr. Gustavus Hinrichs, a physics professor at the University of Iowa, in a paper published in the American Meteorological Journal in 1888. Hinrichs chose this terminology for thunderstorm-induced straight-line winds as an analog to the word tornado." In Spanish, derecho can be defined as "direct" or "straight ahead."

If you have a storm drain near your home, make certain it is unclogged.
Do a check of doors and windows. If you have a basement, check where the water is now in the
floor drain. Then compare it to after the storm. Maybe even fill some empty jugs with water and have blankets and sleeping bags to throw over the fridge/freezers. This will add for insulation in case there is a power outage. Got any bleach? ALways good to have after a storm with floods.
GOod luck, everybody! Oh, fill up the cars now.

yeah because when the tornado's fling your car across the city, you want it to be full of gas ? Do you know the biggest problem, most people face after a tornado ? flat tires, go figure, aside from their flattened houses, and other stuff,
