"We are reviewing the decision and trying to determine what the proper steps going forward are," Boehner told reporters."
Well John, the first and olny step is to recognise that this decision is Right, Fair and Just! Well done SCOTUS!

By that he means we will scream for cuts and criticize waste. Then put up another DOMA another 20 times, knowing it will fail.

Rad. Hopefully now that states see anti-equality laws aren't holding up, more will start permitting gay marriage.

John Boehner has to consider next steps. Really? Is this part of the inclusion strategy of the republican party? What is wrong with this man? It's a law now - get over it for goodness sakes. Stop spending taxpayer money to further your personal beliefs (which are offensive most of the time).

Ann, you may be getting a clue that the republicans have absolutely no interest at all in enacting a policy of inclusion, unless by inclusion we mean the welcoming of fundy homophobes who hate and fear feminists and foreigners.

I am hoping this decision on Prop 8 is enough to make the Romney's leave California for good and move to Utah.

Who knows what happened as a result of the Prop 8 ruling?

So SCOTUS decided to side-step the merits of the case itself by ruling that the Petitioners had no standing to appeal the lower courts decisions in defence of the constitutionality of Prop 8.

Did they effectively nullify Prop 8, or has it been sent back?

They ruled it unconstitutional.

Not exactly. They said the people who pursued the appeal did not have a legal fight to bring the appeal. The lower court decision stands and, in California, gay marriage remains available. Doesn't mean you can go to Salt Lake City and get married to a gay partner, however.

Apparently not, or it would be binding on other States that have made constitutional amendments.

It appears that by side-stepping, Prop 8 has effectively died the death it deserves, but doesn't provide any help to advocates in other jurisdictions by giving a constitutional precedent.

I swear, if you listen carefully, you can hear the earnest and incessant chatter of fundy women on prayer chans across the nation, asking for Jesus to protect them and their vulnerablre children from the demons of homosexuality that the SCOTUS has as a consequence of these rulings set loose upon our once Godly nation.
I say, rejoice fundy christians. You have cause to praise! If you really think it's all that, if you really hold that this is a sign straight out of Revelations, then you must be in the end times and as such, your sky being is about to drag your butts up into the sky, next stop pearly gates.
That'll leave the rest of us to have sex with whichever adult catches our eye, to fall in love with whomrever we wish, and to marry the person we love and guess what? we won't suffer because of it and you won't be missed.

Well put.

But no matter how they vote, it comes down to 9 people deciding for 300M of us. And that ain't right.

Quite so, particularly when five out of nine justices appointed by GOP presidents are politically motivated in their judgements.

Well said. I didn't hear cheering during the Voting Rights act case yesterday
10:42 AM on 06/26/2013
So either get rid of both or keep both. Without DOMA there's equal protection claims left and right to deal with. Meaning gay couples in states like Iowa, Massachusetts, and New York will be getting federal benefits that they would be denied under DOMA, and gay couples in states like Arkansas, Texas, and Nebraska will NOT be eligible for federal benefits that their California counterparts would be eligible for.
