You have to love these regressive Republicans. Don't they know they are one election away from being third party status in this country. You would think they would do whatever they could to get this to pass...LOL guess not...

Isn't it ironic that they love Reagan so much and he granted amnesty to millions...
11:00 PM on 06/24/2013
no Reagan did not, it was carter and Clinton. there isn't a republican out there that wants more immigrants
02:09 PM on 06/19/2013
Yep, this is how Democracy is supposed to work - back room meetings that decide what is or is not worthy of a vote. They know they are on the wrong side of both the electorate as a whole and History, and are terrified to have to register their vote. But really, isn't that their primary job, to field proposals and vote. None of the noise they actually "accomplish" is actually in the Constitution, but this is. So much for "strict constructionalist"...

welfare is not a career opportunity
11:43 AM on 06/19/2013
This is a pointless article, apparently designed simply to give left wingers an opportunity to spew their hatred of the Republicans. Of course the Republican Speaker is not going to bring a controversial bill to the floor for a vote without a majority of his party behind it. If Pelosi was still speaker, she would do the exact same. Look at what votes she allowed vs disallowed. If you want to criticize the Republicans for doing it, you can't cheer when your party does the exact same thing. And before you guys go frothing at the mouth about the "GOPTP", there are 234 Republican members of the House. Only 49 of that 234 are members of the Tea Party. That means that 185 Republican House members are actually establishment/mainstream/moderate Republicans, and of course that's a solid majority of Republicans.
02:13 PM on 06/19/2013
The 185 are all terrified that the TP will field some rabid dog against them in the next primary election, so they do nothing rather than put their career on the line. It's what we've come to expect from the 113th United States Congress.

Why would you want to do that? Then NO ONE would be willing to compromise or work with our President. Oh no! We've got to have a Congress that's willing to do it JOB and willing to GOVERN. The Republican's are controlled by Extremist who have OPENLY admitted they intend to do NOTHING but obstruct and try to cause the President to FAIL! Time for the Republican Party to get a backbone... it's time to tell them that LOUDLY and CLEARLY!!

I suggest the same thing. We got rid of a few (R)s in San Diego which has been a GOPT city for a long time - one of the few in Cali. F&F

I think this so-called majority support rule is just a transparent cya ruse: It's meant to avoid putting the majority on record as having opposed anything they feel certain will be used against them politically.

It fits perfectly with their negotiating style of, "First pledge to us you won't make any offers that offend our ideology before we agree to sit down you and bargain in good faith."

Read the Department of Labor numbers that I have attached. Since Boehner has taken office as Speaker, there are 5.173 million more employed in the country. That is 11.870 million better than under Pelosi's tenure. Under Pelosi, the number went from 137.161 million to 130.464 million, or a drop of 6.697 million. Those are the DOL numbers.

There is a Republican leader in the House: Cantor, R-Va. And there is a Democratic leader: Pelosi, D-Ca. The Speaker of the House is the speaker for the whole house, for the entire nation. Preventing the will of the people of the entire country is wrong, Mr Boehner.

Hey the bill in the Senate is a COMPROMISE.. now I know some of you do NOT know what the meaning of that word is and for that reason you should NOT be casting stones. Saying the Democrats are "Hypocrites" though? In the FACE of a group of people who can't govern.. who have NO ability to compromise and are so Hypocritical they can't agree to their OWN positions when the President agrees?? Seriously? LMAO
