Karzai has two choices. Death by the Taliban or exile with the money he stole from US taxpayers.

Karzai is just concerned that we'll interrupt his cash deals with the Taliban to keep the U.S. paying both sides.... Karzai is corrupt, that's been proven. So, why not just walk away from the whole situation and let Karzai do his thing without cash payments from the U.S. How long would he last ?
04:42 PM on 06/19/2013
The USA ought not to have been in Afghanistan at all. Go home!!

Bring out the troops and cut off the cash. Whether we should have been there or not is a different question, but if he wants to play the game let him. See how long he remains at the helm without the financial and military support of big brother. Bye Bye Karzai!

Karzai is as corrupt as they come and my guess is he is trying to finagle some money out of the negotiations.
04:47 PM on 06/19/2013
None so corrupt as those Americans that have continued to cripple Afghanistan with their murderous ways. From al Qaeda to the enticement of the Soviet invasion to the bald trickery leading to so many deaths to the invasion of Afghanistan there's been nothing but killing by the USA.

Karzai is corrupt for sure but U.S is so desperate that is now engaging Taliban and trying to bypass their own puppet, and Taliban opening an office in Qatar that is more like an embassy also show who were funding it behind scenes, Despot dictators of Saudi and Persian gulf regimes and U.S as usual hypocrisy of playing a good cop, bad cop all by itself simultaneously funny thing U.S is fighting Taliban's for the past 10 years while its allies were funding it and now its allies arrange for the peace talk, truth is stranger than fiction the only sad part is the dead remain dead.

Kind of takes me back to the end of WW 2 when the allies sold out Poland to the Russians.
04:03 PM on 06/19/2013
That happened as the war was starting up with the non aggression pact that Hitler and Stalin signed to partition Poland.

that is another issue with Poland.....the true government of Poland was in exile in England and Russia decided to set up its own government ( the Lublin Government) and Churchill and Roosevelt finally decided not to interfere but yes you are right that it all began there!

How about we "suspend" Karzai's Swiss bank account. Why did Bush admin "hand pick" Karzai? 12 years later, Karzai got rich while the average Afghan gets nothing.

Well,
the Russians sorta got there first, now didn't they.
There's a whole list of eastern and central european countries that got trapped when the Iron Curtain fell.
Not much could be done about that,
unless, of course, you wanted war with the Soviets in 1945!
04:25 PM on 06/19/2013
Afghanis are getting filthy stinking rich, I don't know what world you are living in. Karzai is a good guy to pacify everybody economically. The embassy in Doha didn't pay for itself.

The last President is the one that destroyed any respect the world had for the Presidential office. This one has gotten most of it back but his own countrymen keep on sabotaging him at every turn. These so-called "Patriots"(sometimes referred to as "republicans") feel it's more important to sabotage the President of the United States than to actually do things that are good for the country..... I agree with " Almondo". You are seriously confused.

LOL, another loyalist.

You are the one who is confused, good day to you.
03:46 PM on 06/19/2013
LOL there are no talks. He does what he is told to do and in return he gets rich. End of story, His weak attempts to appear as if he has a choice shouldn't be fooling anyone. It's nothing more than a script to make him appear to actually speak for his people.

The same goes for these so called Taliban officials. They are not Taliban anything. They are paid actors nothing more nothing less. Any agreement they reach is as binding upon the real Taliban as a toenail clipping stuck in your carpet. Well actually not even that binding.
04:59 PM on 06/19/2013
The money rests in the off-shore accounts of those, in the USA, invested in the weapons business. They've a powerful lobby to keep the wars continuous.

The USA is now a theocracy of War.
03:43 PM on 06/19/2013
Give Karzai's head on a platter to the Taliban in trade for peace. I don't care about women's education...I don't care about their religious extremism....No more dead American soldier kids!!!
So they hid bin ladden...they payed the price. Exit, stage right!
05:07 PM on 06/19/2013
Well then you ought not to have supported your governments that promote war.

And:
1. the USA does not promote democracy anywhere and never has.
2. the ones the USA support in the Middle East/North africa have been dictators:
-- Kuwait,Saudi Arabia,Bahrain,Oman,Yemen,Qatar, the Arab Emirates,Egypt's Mubarak, Saddam Hussein they put into power etc.
3. Democracies it supports - Israel
4 Democracies it killed Iran 1953; Egypt in support of Mubarak; Turkey now failing miserably; Palestine in the USA support of Israel.

If the USA gave a damn about rights they have worked very differently in our poor world instead of supporting death on all fronts.

Afghanistan may see more numerous and more severe attacks launched by the Taliban and Taliban supporting extremists with no signs of abandoning extremist Islamic Law in the region. President Karzai is supportive of talks with the Taliban and repeatedly turns fickle and asserts that he is in controlled, but subsequently losses control of any forward talks. Unless constructive change occurs, Afghanistan risks uncertainty in future progressive military strength and effectiveness. The next 3 years may endure a heavy attempted invasion of Afghanistan, as Taliban insurgents stage plans to weaken Karzai's military strength and attack vulnerabilities. Viewing ahead, there remains constant conflict in Afghanistan until President Karzai reaches peaceful resolutions with the Taliban. With distrust and corruption waiting for opportunity, there is little support that insurgent activities will diminish any time soon. A suspicion that Afghanistan will need saving again, by this time in 2017.
