By August 1 there will be at least one running gun battle in a Mississippi WalMart. Over here in Arkansas we have always said, "Thank jezus for Mississippi..." they keep Arkansas off the bottom of the aggregate state IQ tests.
12:52 AM on 06/25/2013
You might want to take a look at the upcoming Arkansas laws.

Well, at least a person will know what he is up against... there is nothing as bad as taking a knife to a gun fight.

Did anyone tell you OBAMA WON, He is the "leader " Commander in Chief" the most powerfull man in the world" "Articulite,Funny" Charming ,Likable" (so you libs tell us) why can't he get a street paved,at least, has he no power of persuasion, the great communicator himself, ha ha ha
05:55 PM on 06/24/2013
Obama has quite solidly failed at the top three concerns. So, all he *can* do is focus on the lesser concerns.

No problems in Virginia with open carry. Used to mandatory at restaurants that served alcohol.

05:14 PM on 06/24/2013
Which of the six non open carry states do you live in?
06:04 PM on 06/24/2013
Actually, unless I'm mistaken, there are seven states that do not allow open carry: California, New York, Wyoming, Florida, Illinois, South Carolina and (surprisingly) Texas.

And there's a big difference between allowing someone with a license and training to carry a gun openly, and allowing *anyone* who isn't specifically prohibited by law to carry a gun openly (11 states in that list, I believe).

I'm all for concealed-carry, but open carry, especially as it's described here... that's a different animal.

Correct me if I'm wrong but, where in the 2nd Amendment does it say I must apply for a permit to carry a gun?

it doesn't but the constitution gives the states rights to change the rules around.

Actually, no..it doesn't, in regards to rights.

If you refer to the 2nd A ...

Something that was well-regulated was calibrated correctly, functioning as expected.

You have no ira what the Constitution says on the matter.
06:13 PM on 06/24/2013
Individual retirement account? Where's that in the Constitution?

And the 2nd Amendment says "...the rights of the People to carry firearms shall not be infringed." Funny. It doesn't say *anything* about the rights of the states, or federal government...

And, in 2010, the McDonald vs. Chicago case led the SCotUS to rule that the 2nd Amendment limits not only the power of the National Congress, but also the state and local governing bodies as well.

Nothing scares me more than a bunch of strangers carrying loaded guns around...I assume the police and the military are fairly well trained but I have no idea what experience or training random people I don't know have and I don't want them parading around the streets showing off and acting like a gun makes them a man.

As long as they have training and permits then I, for one, would.
05:18 PM on 06/24/2013
Most of the people are going to be carrying concealed. In every state (or near every state) you already have people with hidden guns. Open guns are already legal in a majority of US States. MS just made a clarification. You don't see them very often because they aren't really practical. For each open carry gun you see, there are probably 20 concealed (or more) that you don't.

"Calhoun said guns are prohibited at schools, community colleges and universities. Private property owners can also prohibit people from bringing guns onto their property."

Legislation can easily take care of those exceptions.

America... Why are you so in love with a Mutually Assured Destruction philosophy to keep the peace?

I don't understand what all the hype is about. It's normal after new laws take effect that a state's Department of Justice will conduct a "legal update" for its law enforcement officers. When I worked in law enforcement in California in the early 1990's we had a legal update every year. The local District Attorney send a representative to present the new rules and field any questions. Pretty much standard procedure I would think.

As far as "open carry", why would that be a concern? It's the law of the land in many places. We have open carry here in Virginia and have a relatively low violent crime rate. I stood behind a guy carrying a very nice looking auto-loading pistol at a check out counter at a major "big box" electronics store a short time ago. There wasn't mass pandemonium with people running for the exits - LOL.

I think a lot of people on these sites need to get a grip and rationally look at the facts.
04:13 PM on 06/24/2013
Model the gun law after Chicago and Illinois. It works so well we will probably set a new record.
