I believe Paula Deen is truly sorry for her racist remarks, back then and now, but apologizing doesn't change a racist attitude. Change is inevitable and growth is optional. To grow is to show change. Ms. Deen's off color remarks need to be kept in the privacy of her home or not at all. As a woman of mixed-race & in my mid-60's I have never used the N word. I treat others like I want to be treated. Racism hurts people and it's not OK. I'm a very forgiving person but Ms. Deen's attitude must change and that starts in her heart.

I agree, but this is a 27 year old statement, Who are we to judge her state of mind today and assume she has not grown since making the original statement.

The religious nut thread is over there ------->

This thread is for the Lord's Vengenance against Hypocrits who HIDE their Diabetes while marketing food Diabetics should not eat, until getting a Diabetes Drug Endorsement from Norvo Nordisc. Amen?
05:12 PM on 06/25/2013
AMEN! Paula Deen is not only a hypocrit, but also don't care who she hurts by the type of foods she has touted until she herself becomes a diabetic. She can't suffer enough for her malfeasnce of conscience.

Wow, isn't it strange how racism works. When Tiger Woods was caught by his white wife cheating on her all the black's comments were in support of Wood's horrible actions. A bunch of sponsors droped him, but he got all weepy and begged forgiveness. And bingo!, all of a sudden Woods is no longer a low life creep. How about we keep it equal for everyone? Well, we all know that isn't going to happen in this climate of Obamagasams and one way attitudes....

No, I'm just saying that a black sports player can do just about anything and it's all forgiven, but if you're white ie: Pete Rose, you're guilty for life. Pay attention to the text of my post.
04:29 PM on 06/25/2013
Your are not presenting a fair playing field by your posted example. If you want to comment on Tiger Woods and his affair and forgiveness or not, well we also have to look at Paula Deen and her affair and forgiveness or not. She is not in the headlines because of an affair she is in the headlines because of racism / hatred/ treating people differently, speaking the forbidden 'N' word and allowing her children to sexually harass women while working for her etc. That is a far cry from what you are detailing.
05:31 PM on 06/25/2013

I'm a generation after her, so to speak, and didn't grow up in the south. But Maryland has it's share of racism and I've never once used that word, in over fify years of life. I don't see that her background is any excuse.

Autora ~ I agree that it doesn't matter your age, race or where U live racism is wrong & unacceptable. And, it doesn't whether you live north or south of the Mason Dixon Line. It did matter way back when ~ but we have learned from our mistakes. We are all created equal and should be treated with equal respect.

racism, keep that at home, don't bring into your work, i could care less what people say in the comfort of their own home, but at work, that is a no no.

Here's another HuffPost editorial that will soon become a race issue and another frivolous court case due to some sort of racism, .It's only a matter of time.."Lindsay Bien-aime [A Black Woman], US Airways Passenger, Arrested After Refusing To Stop Talking On Cell Phone".

We all have real names. Calling people racial epitaphs, and other degrading "normalized" terms are not my idea of human consideration. "Other-ism" and name calling by everyone, that includes this new trend by (some not all ) Black folks and other races using the "N" word like it is their first name is socially repugnant to me. I don't hear other racial words towards each other, so freely, that lowly depict other races as much at the "N" world. Some people need to learn the history and the etymology behind these degrading and dehumanizing words/terms. Maybe when they (those that use degrading words as if they are normal) educate themselves, they might stop using them. In any event, Paula did more than use the "N" word, She signed a contract that has a non-discminiatory clause (past, present, future behaviors), has a moral turpitude clause, and codes of behavior per the FN's Branding image requirements. So, She Branded herself The Paula Deen brand that has global outreach. Therefore, she can't engage in discriminatory behavior w/o social and business repercussions. Also, she allegedly did a sexually inappropriate food (she also was cussing and sexually touching herself in the video) video that also breaks her contract.

Read the lawsuit first, I DID. I did not write deposition, I wrote lawsuit. The deposition is simply a part of the lawsuit process. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deposition_(law)

The claims go far beyond a 27 year old comment. The plaintiff tried to mediate abusive behavior for about five years, then finally quit.

This country is in great danger with the light-speed proliferation of extremely poor reportage, commentary and opinion. A democracy REQUIRES an informed populace.

Responsible people aren't going to want to enrich tyrants, no matter how good their fried chicken tastes. Why? Because for them tyranny is a bigger issue than fried chicken. Which matters more to you?

There are two sides to the story. The plaintiff might have been trying to capitalize on the Deen name and money. Many people have tried to capitalize on the wealth of another person.

What exactly do conservatives have to do with the discussion we are having here or are you just trying to add a political element? I also hope you realize Mill made that statement in mid 1800's england and the conservatives he was referring to were not the modern day conservatives as seen in the US, far from it.

Excuse me that last time I read she was worth $17 million not so bad for someone that you state has been used by her sponsors. She wouldn't have continued to be there if she were not making a fortune of her own. Without those shows she would have not made it as big as she is now. or on her own...She can thank her lucky stars that she will have pensions and investments to take her into her older years and may I add live a very comfortable lifestyle.
12:22 PM on 06/25/2013
I don't think she should be fired, Most white have use the N word at some point I agree with drb107, she should have said NO, and I am Black...give her, her job back
12:56 PM on 06/25/2013
heck she even fessed up to it.. i hear more african americans say the N word than i do whites and I live in the south.. this was blown out of proportion. What was she to do next time? Lie about it?? Maybe she should, everyone else does.

Actually, the vast majority of white people have never used the word. I have lived in Georgia 30 years and have heard the term perhaps 15 or 20 times and cringed each time I heard it.

Paula Deen should have answered no to that question, and then ask the person's or person asking her that question the same question. She should also ask all the CEO's of all the companies/networks dropping her if they ever used a racial slur. They would lie in a moment.
