"'Today, My Country Gave Dignity' To Us"

Your "country" gave dignity to you? That's one of the saddest statements I've ever heard. If someone can't have dignity from just knowing in their heart they are a good person, that someone has problems that go way deeper than "the gay".

You quoted the sentence properly, but then you changed it.

Dignity to us...to their relationship.

This isn't really an alien concept. SCOTUS referenced this very idea in their opinion. Yes, they too used the word, "dignity."

How sad and predictable that haters would come even onto the this post to spread their hatred and bigotry. If you don't approve of same sex marriage then don't marry someone of the same sex. And to all you religious fanatics out there, your god does not rule this nation so stop trying to push your religious beliefs in everyone else's face.

We can take comfort in knowing three things: first, the number of haters is dwindling, which is why they're growing increasingly shrill.

Second, they lack any reasonable argument. Their failures are mounting because their position is indefensible.

Third, most of them lack the courage of their convictions. It may seem otherwise at times, but most of them are merely heckling us from the peanut gallery. This separates them from Edie Windsor, who had the strength and courage to challenge an unjust law, and her goal was to make this a better country for everyone.

Agreed. The fact that the haters have begun losing these battles and that their number is shrinking is a great comfort to me.

Edie Winsor has more class and decency than the haters will ever be able to DREAM of having. She is one grand Lady.

Mrs. Windsor, thank you for your commitment your marriage, the GBLT community but most of all to what you believe in. You are one heck of a person. I only wish Thea could be here now to see you. I know she is looking down and grinning ear to ear. You are a gem!

Mrs. Windsor, I am proud to say that I have profiled and written on your case many times and could not be happier for you and many others today.

It was Ms. Windsor who forced the Supreme Court to examine the injustices of DOMA. I don't look to a court to give me or any other members of the LGBT world dignity, and Ms. Windsor is the personification of dignity and strength. Her personal battle became a watershed moment and a turning point in the decades-long struggle for equality. I am so, so grateful to this woman whom I've never met. I only wish that her loving wife, Thea, were here to experience Ms. Windsor's (and millions of others') triumph. True equality is far from reality but the bell cannot be un-rung on this and progress is moving faster than ever. THANK YOU, Edie Windsor.

Amen, she is like a fairy godmother to those of us who have been separated from the ones we love. Now the gap can be closed and soon we can start bringing our husbands, wives and fiance/es home and our families can heal!

There's a real thing of bromance, or of BFFs, where sex, as the act of sex, is absent. What we're allowing here is privileged relationships. This may sound weird, because you haven't heard it before.

What happens in the brothership within a rifle squad, or a Catholic order, or a sports team? Especially a sports team. How many football or basketball stars can you name who "married" a female but in fact have had sex with several, dozens, or hundreds of other females? How important to their real lives are those sexual encounters compared to the brotherhood and trust of their male companions, with whom they have never had sex? How many rock stars are aggressively heterosexual to the point of having several relations a night, yet their "passion," their partner(s), are their band mates? Their real relationship? The guys they'd like to execute their estates, the ones they trust?

Same sex marriage may have nothing to do with sex. Marriage is a legal union that confers legal rights regarding inheritance, access, visitation rights, adoption, liquidation of assets and things about which one must trust another human being, because, well, you're dead. You should know, or at least believe, another human being who is alive would do things as closely as possible as you would do yourself. That may have nothing to do with sex, either shared or committed.

Few would really trust their dog or goat to disseminate their will. Yet, wills really matter. Your argument is that animals are qualified to interpret them?

If you are getting dignity from your country, you must be looking to your President for Hope.
01:21 AM on 06/27/2013
don't forget,
it was our President who refused to defend DOMA when SCOTUS took up the case,
it was a small band of right wing House Republicans who backed it .........

Sin always give you false courage, dignity, and strong illusion. It is never a happy day to see so many people embrace this sin and actually believe they will have a true marriage, when they are destroying God's perfect order. A lot of people are blinded to the truth because of lust and sinful behavior. They want what they want, but God is never mocked. Once this sin is fully embraced, that is when the wrath of God will come. He has already showed us and forewarrned us. We know what the final result will be. When it comes, it will be swift, they will not even know what has hit them.

Unless you are able to read the Bible in the original language from the original manuscript you really do not know what it says. We only know what we have been told that it says. Why assume that fallible people were making correct translations?
