They *have* a country, the country their parents are from.

You see, if a diplomat from another country is serving here in the United States and their spouse (also from that or another foreign country) has a child here in the United States, that child is a citizen of *their* country, not the U.S.

Same is true for foreign nationals that are not here legally, their children are citizens of the country their parents are from.

Mr. Cantor is a blithering idiot in regards to this particular subject.

14th amendment:
Section 1. All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside.

s a United States Supreme Court case in which the Court ruled that practically everyone born in the United States is a U.S. citizen. This decision established an important precedent in its interpretation of the Citizenship Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment to the Constitution.

Fourteenth Amendment encompassed essentially everyone born in the U.S.—even the U.S.-born children of foreigners—and could not be limited in its effect by an act of Congress

Look at Eric talking about the poor kids without a country. He was ready to deny disaster relief to Americans and now he's all sniffles about the poor little children. He's OK with seniors having the Meals on Wheels program cut but he's Mother Teresa with a pomp when it comes to the poor little children. Mr Compassion that Eric the buhtweezehl.

And, in the case of illegal aliens, this is the case as well. The children are citizens of the country their parent's are from (works the same way with diplomats serving here in the U.S. from other countries).

this is just more of cantors.... remember what i told ya this morning? well i have changed my mind....

all cantor is after is for some of the latino population to think that the gop is a kinder place to be... the reality is far different, just like back in nov. when he was washing those pans.....

Ryan was washing the clean pans..Cantor wanted FEMA offsets, before his state got hit and then hanged his tune...refused to consider key provisions in the act to protect abused women an men.....etc..

Doesn't anybody read anymore. The employers of the parents and the parents of these kids killed the American Dream Blame them A Noble Prize winner told us the American Dream is dead and another said say goodbye to jobs.

looks like cantor is really putting the knife to boehner to sound reasonable. such a 180 since 2011. does she he an opening to grab the oversized gavel?

first he was a thorn in boehner's side by disagreeing with any somewhat reasonable thing boehner said; now he's a thorn in boehner's side by disagreeing with any truly unreasonable thing boehner says.

Cantor is making a plea for the future of the Republican Party and he is directing it to the deaf, dumb, and blind followers of the Tea Party-dominated GOP. He might as well save his breath, though. We've had 7 amnesties and the problem grows after each one. If they fool us again there are some really sorry people walking around who really need to be in a home.

I know you guys really aren't educated enough to understand this but all the bill before the house.. the one passed by the Senate, provides for is a PATH to Citizenship. It does NOT grant them Amnesty. You both know there are a lot of places you can get additional education.. has to help with your ability to READ and UNDERSTAND what you have read. Course we can just stick with what we have and by the time the NEXT house is seated the number of Illegals will have grown by a great amount.

Wish I knew how to reply directly... Birth on Americans overseas makes the point. The child born to Americans overseas are American because its parent or parents are American citizens. If you r a legal citizen of a given country that is the determinant factor of the Childs citizenship. If you are in a country illegally or otherwise you are still a citizen of the country where you were born. You have no legal standing in a country you entered illegally,no right to demand anything

Agreed that should be the long term solution - the US and I believe Australia are about the only countries that grant citizenship simply because of being born in country. However, short term there are hundreds of thousands of kids who were brought here with their parents with no say. They shouldn't be punished. Give them a reasonable path to citizenship, while simultaneously revoking automatic citizenship from this day forward.
