Yes! Kirk should be a big fat spot. Sulu should be the most beautiful and elegant mountain.

The judges of the poll must be Republicans. They always vote against for whatever the people want.

Isn't it interesting that nobody complains when an individual brings anti-republican political sentiments in a scientific discussion, but pretends impartiality when anti-democrat observations are made. Hypocrites abound! But what does one expect when madmen run the asylum...

Hats off to Star Trek, but I was kinda hoping for a little broader range of names when they said "sci-fi". If we're gonna go that route I want to see Geidi Prime and Arrakis and Pandora and every other name out there in the Ort Cloud. There's more than enough real estate to go around.

silly huffpost Charon is not a moon, it is a mass relay.

Whatever you do, don't name it after Disney characters. They'll try and copyright the dwarf planet under the sleepy/sneezy doc and then no one can look at it.

Some craters and other surface features spotted on Pluto by NASA's New Horizons probe in 2015 may end up bearing the name of "Star Trek" characters, as this screenshot from a Google+ Hangout demonstrates. -- From the story

God, I hope not....

Vulcan was a very inappropriate name for a moon of Pluto anyway. They should have tried for "Andoria" which is an icy moon according to Trek Doctrine.

Vulcan would've been a terrible name for a tiny ice moon orbiting an insignificant ice dwarf. It should be saved for the first extrasolar planet confirmed to be volcanically active.

I think Star Trek may have done more to help young children to go into the fields of science, engineering and space exploration. Not bad for a TV show 's legacy. Naming features on Pluto or other worlds, planets, seems reasonable and appropriate. How about a Mt. Roddenberry for the highest Mountain or structure.
