He sounds a lot like what Socrates said about Plato's generation. For old guys, "The Golden Age" has always been yesterday. And, today, the world is always going to pot!

I am surprised to hear all that is mentioned. I was under the impression that their sociey was much more stable and not in chaos
as depicted. The people are being ruled by an iron fist or not?

Since the USSR's collapse, the aren't getting economically held up by same. The people have to work now, but there's no jobs. Which leaves a lot of hungry people willing to break the law, i.e. raising pigs in the city, and worse.

Raul, mentiroso, ladron, asesino! Raul is a liar, a thief and a murderer. He helped his brother ruin Cuba, steal millions of dollars and property, murder thousands of people. How dare he make any statement about the US!

If Raul were running for office in a freely elected government, he would lose by a landslide. No voter wants to be talked down to by a pompous politician as I see it.

I'm old enough to recall Batista. During that time Cuba was America's playground. Once Castro overthrew him the gates were closed. Had he allowed the U.S. to remain and do business we probably wouldn't be reading about any of this. We do business with China which is also a dictatorship by a party. The difference is that China lets us come in and make money. What a difference a dollar makes.
As for Raul's rant well welcome to the club Raul. Did you think your citizens could live off your anti capitalist messge with no meat, bread, and potatoes for decade after decade? Watch your back. They may have eaten the last of your jargon and don't like the taste.

Kids! What's wrong with these kids today?!
04:53 AM on 07/09/2013
Us, that is what is wrong with them. We, our generation raised them and obviously we didn't do a good job. We allow them to do lots of things that we were not allow to do. We didn't teach them to praise God and now they worship devil worshipers. We didn't teach them to respect, love and value themselves and this are the results. We left them wonder around, while we were busy making money, some to survive, others to accumulate. Mean while they got lost. That is what happens with our children, and I say "our" because we all did it in some way!

It was a take off on "Bye Bye, Birdie"!
I do agree with you in some part, however, my point was that every generation sees the next generations as "less than"; there is way too much generalization and dismissiveness for the good that is done by the younger crowd.

It's amazing how all the things Raul mentioned are happening every day in the barrios of New York. It's an interesting insight as to how much freedom the Cuban people have and can express without being sighted for all of these petty violations. I had the impression that their system was comparable to the set-up in North Korea but Castro shed a new light that freedom reigns supreme on this island nation. ... Viva la Cuba !

The people there are about as free as any other person in the world.... we are lied to in America. Ive studied in cuba, one of the most beautiful places in the world

Well obviously you didn't learn much in Cuba, are they free to dissent, are they free to travel?. I think not. They have one political party etc.

Since the U.S. doesn't have a presence in Cuba, I believe that he could rightly have the Europeans to blame for taking the steam out of the revolution and putting it into the Cubans' cappuccinos.

Typically old Raul doesn't address the reasons why Cubans are raising pigs in cities, the hunger, the rations, the food shortages ...

The fruits of the socialist system the Castros have inflicted on the island.

All these "social ills" sounds like the Cubans are suffering from "moral decay". As in all Communist countries, it is difficult to practice the teaching of Christ. Time to get on some strong, moral ground in Cuba as well as in the U.S.
06:19 PM on 07/08/2013
It's always a bit funny to see right wingers rail against Castro when history shows all the despotic regimes that Republicans and conservatives have supported, from central to South America, with thousands of peasants, students, intellects, leftists, and trade unionists -- men and women, young and old -- dying from Cold War reactionary tactics. Remember when Reagan compared the Contras, who were known for butchering Indians, to the Founding Fathers?

This is particular true when it comes to Operation Condor, which was a US-supported political program to political repress dissidents in the Americas by their dictatorship allies.

But state imprisonment of political foes, Government leaders living in luxury and no Freedom of Speech is just Great! Typical leftie, do as I say not as I do.
06:13 PM on 07/08/2013
Give me a break. The US long supported right wing regimes under conservatives, from Somoza to Pinochet (where thousands were killed for politics under his regime), and Republicans here in the US have detained political prisoners as well.

In fact, conservatives unapologetically support "state imprisonment of political foes," either via proxies or directly by the CIA, so your words are completely out of touch with reality, and history.
06:18 PM on 07/08/2013
What have to do your comment with robtucan's comment????...... you seems to try to justify that criminal regime ..... the one out of reality are you bringing others wrong doing to justify castrofascism.

But you have no problem buying cheap Chinese goods. The two governments are no different. One country is just a torn in America side and the other is a super power that has huge economic and miltary implications to US influence. You buy there goods and then turn around and say we have to spend half the federal budget on the miltary to keep them in check.
