Very few of you including our reps in D.C. come out of this war with your hands clean. Apologists and supporters of both Obama and republicans, as well as those who kept mum when your representatives in both the senate and the congress voted to fund this war time and again all are responsible for this nightmare. How many times have we heard what VP Biden told us, that “The president was very clear ...  Read More... when irresponsibility and recklessness has been from day one of this war the fuel that kept it going.
“Blair and Cameron (and by extension Obama) forget the warning of Chatham (father of Pitt) against a nation betraying itself "by its own credulity, through...false hope, false pride and promised advantages of the most romantic and improbable nature".

...two democracies, operating in a climate of open debate, (found)  themselves trapped in a decade of bloodshed, extravagance and mendacity (and) accept(ed) the deaths ...of their young (and) thousands of non-combatant foreigners in a cause they could articulate only in irrelevant cliches about democracy, security and female emancipation...

People knew what was happening but dared not say. ...courts, habeas corpus, civil liberty, freedom of speech, fearless intelligence – fell down before "national security" ...Politics ceased to lubrica(te) democracy and became...its poison.
(Obama) ... dare not tell the truth while troops are in the battlefield (and has) talk(ed) of leaving "when Afghan forces can defend themselves"...or "when the streets of (Washington D.C.) are safe", which is never." http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2010/jul/08/afghanistan-catastrophe-chilcot

This goes back to the Reagan era...and the promises this Country made to them after we supplied them with the arms to get Russia out...Remember people the war between Russia and Afghanistan...Bankrupted them...and Russia has been quietly sitting on the side lines...not only did we break promises to this Country in the past it also put a very bad strain on our relationship with Pakistan which to this day is still their...They don't want us there so I say pack it up and bring our men home...:-))

Pakistan is a riddle that has America foxed for decades. Loss of American lives in Afghanistan was the price it paid for not understanding Islamabad and its inner reality. It was shielding Osama when Americans were bleeding in Torbora and elsewhere. Interestingly, for its trechery Pakistan was showered with billions of dollars.

Yes but you have to remember it was because of Reagan, Al Queda and the Taliban were created...and Reagan's proxy war is what did the most damage when it comes to Pakistan...:-))

Too many American soldier's lives have been wasted in Afghanistan. Americans forged their own destiny during the American Revolution and it's time for the people of Afghanistan to do the same. The free ride needs to be over. If the Afghan people want slamic rule over democracy, let them suffer the consequences.

Not to blame a bush but the first should have dropped the big one way back when to set an example. Every one of those countries hates us in the middle East.

Yuck..Karzai, his brother has already been taken out which is precisely what he deserved as a drug pusher and thug. Only somewhere as tragic as Afghanistan would their current leader be seen as desirable.

Our modern wars gone wrong, where there is no resolution. The war never ends and the killing will go on long after we are gone. All those killed in Iraq and Afghanistan died and are now gone for what?
06:51 AM on 07/09/2013
Wouldn't be a bad idea. All Afghanistan and it's neighbors put in more effort to reign in the country.
06:26 AM on 07/09/2013
In all honesty, he should have considered this a long time ago. I guess it is better late than never. It does not seem like this government will ever learn. They have that silly white colonial mentality that does not serve this country worth a damn in modern times. And they are having a hard time changing this. They will eventually learn the hard way. They are never going to change or make this region of the world into what they want it to be. And they keep wasting their time, lives, and resources being stubborn about this.

Shame on him.

I would have thought the Iraq War would have been a good lesson to question another fiasco.

I voted for him twice, I'd do it again only because Romney would have been worse and it's been over 2 years since Bin Ladin was removed....he took his time getting out of Iraq and now it's Afghanistan.

Our media has daily coverage of the Zimmerman Trial but remains silent on our troops dying in Afghanistan, they're also part of a larger problem.

The Pentagon runs this country, our leaders come and go, these players hide in the shadows and remain in power and you won't see them on any ballot.

Those generals want war ad infinitum...we want them to be not only finite, but to never happen in the first place.

The draw-down began in late 2011. Over 30,000 troops have left the country so far.
