Urban renewal jobs programs would work wonders, on many fronts, (infrastructure, blight, unemployment, welfare, etc.).

That's why the repubs will never let them happen.

Disparity is better for profits.

So is the President suppose to just do everything by himself? There is no legislative body. The Senate is just now trying to act like a legislative body. The House pfft... How is he suppose to do anything? Through executive order?

by not always dividing our country
11:43 AM on 07/26/2013
Really?
1. TX and other Southern States are trying to secede from the USA 'cause they can stand a black president
2. GOP policies are for the protection of the 1%
3. Romney doesn't care for the 47%
4. For the GOP leadership, abortion is their #1 priority not the economy..
11:51 AM on 07/26/2013
Specifically cite the ways in which the POTUS is dividing the country. What specifically has he done?

He's not the first President who had congress working against him.

Getting your programs through when congress is opposed is kind of what a President is supposed to do.

If he can't do it, maybe he needs to let the professionals step in and do the job.

Lame.  Those are radicals in the House and you know it.  And as far as this "He's not the first President lame line"  He's the first Black President in America. I guess now, I'm so supposed to believe that he getting the same treatment as a White President.

Good Grief.

"Obama's Urban Affairs Office Brings Hope But Not Much Change" That is exactly a Communist tactic. They exploit the people who have not been able to overcome their situation for different reasons. They sell them hope. Not because their are going to improve their life is just because since they offer hope, and of course, a change people will buy. Regrettably as Obama did, they never fulfill the promises. Only create a new and worse situation.

They are only two communist. All the czars he has in the White House are communist and anti - Americans and now he added 5 Muslims "Advisors". After 20 years in an anti - American church is not a surprise, not to me.

The rich got their riches by exploration, oppression, cheating the poor; why not destroy their greedy ways. How do you weaken the strong; when all you wish to do is to give everyone a fair and equal educational, and employment opportunities. No one wish to discourage thrift; however, everything must be doing in a balance. Why not take a little more from the greedy. Greed is not good!

"Partnership for Sustainable Communities". What does that even mean and how much time was spent coming up with it? Just once I'd like to see an "Office of Actually Doing Something". Long ago I worked in a civil service (government) office of Planning and Development. I lasted about 6 months. Nobody in that office ever did anything. And I mean that literally. It was there I learned never to pin your hopes on a government agency.

Oklahoma City used to be about as big a dung heap as any down on its luck city you could find, but through good governance and partnerships with business it's now thriving. Waiting for the federal government to turn save your city is like expecting to be dry in a rainstorm without an umbrella.

Back in 1934 after the great depression I don't believe white American talk the B.S that people like you are talking when Franklin Delano Roosevelt implemented the new deal to save the run down cities white Americans where living in at that time. Right now the Republicans in congress want to pass a bill to support the keystone pipeline; which they say it would put a lot of people back to work. So, in your mind the government is good for some people and not so good for other?

Blacks still looking for someone to make their lives better. Its not going to happen. When your well being is dependent on me funding it - get real. I have my own family to feed.

Stop the pity party. It hasn't been working for you.

Read Thomas Sowell, a man who most blacks have never even heard of, but is one of our great modern thinkers. Listen to Ben Carson.

Read this instead, ... http://www.pewsocialtrends.org/2011/07/26/wealth-gaps-rise-to-record-highs-between-whites-blacks-hispanics/

As a result of the Great Recession, Blacks have lost over half, and Hispanics nearly two-thirds of their household wealth between 2005 and 2009. We whites, have lost only about 15% of ours.

Before you throw the, "That's old data" meme at us, ... Read this: http://www.washingtonpost.com/business/economy/americans-have-rebuilt-less-than-half-of-wealth-lost-to-the-recession-study-says/2013/05/30/7d29a878-c930-11e2-8da7-d274bc611a47_story.html

In short, the Banksters did not take a loan from Americans, ... it was an all out Heist. And the poor were vastly more impacted than the Middle Class. The Uber wealthy not at all. Sowell's books go for $ 10 to $ 30 a piece on Amazon.

I hope you'll understand if poor Americans buy bread and pay the rent before shelling a bunch of cash out on your recommendations.

Here is the reason the wealth gap is growing. When you have money invested it grows rapidly when markets go up. During the 90s boom if you had money in the market you were making 50% returns or greater ... If you have no savings and investments you are out of luck.

After the great depression white Americans looked for the government to make their life better. After the 2008 recession there were many white people looking for the government to make there life better. There, more white Americans working and making a good living working for the government than any other race of people in America. How about firing those white people who work for the government and hiring African American for those same jobs. Many of those government jobs do not require much or any education or skills out side of the job it's self. The ones in America who real have their hands out for anything from the government has been white people and the ones who are getting over on the government is white people. As it has been said before; "what is the matter with white people?"

If the Republicans would just pass the American jobs act then a lot would be done for many African Americans. All the African Americans really need are educational and work opportunities.

Education, and the desire for it, begin at home. No amount of subsidies or stimulus dollars will make a difference without personal desire to succeed. Even after the 2009 stimulus, each job created cost approximately $233,000 dollars - not particularly efficient.

Until all Americans, regardless of racial or ethnic background, inspire their children to work hard to succeed, until neighborhoods can unite together to drive crime, gangs, and drugs out, too many of our youth will be lost and feel hopeless.

There is only one way to interpret the facts: Obama is not progressive.

Any speech, promise or proposal that would actually benefit regular Americans MORE than corporations never gets followed through.

Even on healthcare: the requirement that we all buy insurance from the industry was preserved. The public option? Not so much; it was negotiated away by Obama behind the scenes with lobbyists from the health care industry, according to both the NYT and former Sen. Daschle, who was the White House's point person on this issue.

Obama has to promise or imply efforts on behalf of regular people. He's a Democrat, and can't just ignore his base. But as long as we take words over action, he never has to deliver. It's clear he doesn't want to -- so why should we make it easy on him by coming up with excuses for him?
11:20 AM on 07/26/2013
He serves the 1% and merely "placates" the 99%.
