What reason would she owe an apology for?

Palin championed super-sized sodas...(yes, literally)
The public health awareness advocated by Michelle Obama was argued by Palin as another example of "gov't tyranny"

For mischaracterizing the FLOTUS' Let's Move campaign as "a government thinking that they need to take over and make decisions
for us according to some politician or politician's wife priorities..."

Every FLOTUS has a cause about which they try to raise awareness going back to Dolly Madison.

Where was her complaint that Laura Bush wanted to indoctrinate our kids w/her literacy program?

Could this have something to do with the steadily increasing number of children going hungry in the US, currently hovering around 16 million (20%)?
10:32 PM on 08/06/2013
There is not a hunger problem in the US. When did the government convince you that we're incapable of feeding ourselves exactly?

Wow, what's with all the negativity in these comments? We have some good news on a health issue that affects too many kids and we still get comments blaming the victim or denigrating Mrs. Obama's efforts. I have no idea if she's having a measurable impact yet, but surely it's good that she has tried to do something, and good that it seems to be getting better.

If Obama wanted to curb obesity he and the wife would make welfare apply to fruits, vegetables, meat, grains, milk, juice, fresh water and one or two other staples only.

After all, it's not a lifestyle it's supposed to be nutrition.

Add to it a requirement to do something for your EBT card.

As is, we all know there is not one bit less obesity because the welfare scheme helps huge processed food companies extort money from the tax payers. It addicts people to their junk and there is a whole industry of lifelong politicians who get their cut with this whole scheme.

There's no demonstrable change in obesity.

To get one, quit robbing the workers to give policians, addictitve processed food a lifelong way to addict people to garbage.

It is up to congress, not the White House.the real problem with food stamps is they only have buying power for 70% of nutritional requirements so families are forced to buy the cheapest (which is the least nutritious) food out there to stretch the funds.
09:16 PM on 08/06/2013
Nonsense. Find me one person that doesn't know fried chicken is worse for you than grilled. If they are that stupid the government should step in and pay them not to have kids not give them more wic and food stamp money.

Really? My doctor had a patient that didn't know what protein was or where to get it. There a lot of uneducated people out there. This is a high end doctor, so wealthy people are just s stupid. How do you keep them from breeding? Or do you only want to stop poor people?

You can keep your faith. I'll go for knowledge.

From what I've read/heard a LOT of people really don't know that fried is worse than grilled, or even know how to buy and prepare a healthy meal. Nutrition should be part of school science classes.

There aren't supermarkets bc they are constantly robbed by the communities you are referring to. Or they have to armed guards like the new meijer in Detroit

Can all the right wingers that complained about Michelle Obama 'coming for your cheeseburgers' now give her a little credit? Fat chance.

Yeah, except these declines started in 03 as pointed out by Scientific American. The liberal agenda seems to be to take credit for anything positive and nothing negative. In that sense, yes, they are marching on.

You have to set the 'foundation' at a young age. As someone who was fed, and eventually ate terrible food during my youth, I know exactly what it's like to have a bad foundation. Thankfully, I've changed my ways. Hopefully, these kids can end up healthy.

I rarely shop Walmart, but when I do...you're absolutely correct. 7 out of 10 kids and adults are at various levels of obesity.

Anecdote.. and since the author is citing math, it is irrelevant if they have ever been to a Walmart. I don't doubt that you are well meaning, but you are denigrating poor people.
