My local bakery has been making cronuts for years. They are a decent change of pace but seriously, if you call yourself a bakery and can't make a decent donut then you shouldn't be trying to make your money on cronut's.

I agree...as if we need another stake plunged into our cholesterol-laden hearts.

Yes, I have heard of it but have no interest in eating one -- I shall be in New York for a week soon and although I would not have any trouble getting up very early to buy one, I really have no interest in eating it. Sounds too sweet.

Let me understand, a company actually produced a national poll about a product that is produced by one small bakery in NYC? There are many "crazes" that run through New York City, and actually qualify for the title, that the rest of the country never hears about. I am sure the same thing is true of other cities and localities. In my hometown, there is a church that monthly sell homemede pierogies, and the lines are an hour long in that timy town, however i am certain a national poll wouldnt register anything about it, So I don't question the NEW YORK media discussing a local phenomenon, I do however question the wisdom of a national poll about a local product, and I seriously question the authors decision that such a useless poll somehow proved something.

A new delivery system for fat, sugar and cholesterol? Just what American desperately needed. I think I just heard the last artery clog.

The Cronut Craze is is not about the fried dough, it is about filling a void Americans feel in today's society. The Cronut does not care what we look like, how much money have, how young we are or who we vote for. It is absolute equality: No matter who you are, you cannot have one unless you wait on line like everyone else.

O RLY? So the part where people pay 4x the price to people just walking out of the bakery to get the without having to wait doesn't really happen? Looks like it DOES matter how much money you have, just like everything else.

that is called, "the american way".
guy stands in line, buys cronut for $5.00 and sells it to someone who does not want to stand in line for $20.00. sounds like a win-win to me

Pretty much the exact same thing was done with the Krispy Cream doughnut chain in the 1990's - complete with lots of news about long lines, sold out inventory, even police security when a new store opened. They're good, but nothing that deserves all the hype. It's just a marketing stunt.

It's not, though. It's a small, artisan bakery; there's only one in NY. And they stop making cronuts by like 9AM, cause they have other things they want to sell.

"According to a new YouGov poll, the quote-unquote cronut craze is basically a media-generated myth."

Isn't this true of most "crazes"? Hype generates more hype and ultimately increases sales, or the whole thing fizzles out until the "craze."

I might taste one of these things if a free sample were offered, just to satisfy my curiosity, but I very much doubt anything could convince me to buy one, even if I liked it a lot.

I have a short list of "bad habit" foods that I consume on occasion, but that list is pretty much closed to new additions.
