They left animals behind! How is this "feel good?" It is the same ad leaving toddlers behind!!

You don't know cats at all. They were HIDING and the boat was SINKING. You can't put the world "on hold" so you can make it perfect.

Good(ish) ending to what could have been a really depressing story. Bummer that they lost their boat and payload (hopefully they're insured), but great that they all made it out okay. Especially great that the cats came out of hiding before it was too late.

I think the cats deserve a little extra tuna (not too much) in the night's dinner.

I am so glad everyone survived. It sounds like the family is homeless now. I hope they are able to rebuild their lives soon.

Why in the h*ll didn't they take their cats with them? There is NO way I'd leave one of my animals behind to die.

Read the article. The boat was sinking and the lady couldn't get her cats to come out to her. They were probably hiding under a bed or something out of reach. Her husband snapped her out of it and got her into a safety suit and they had to bail into the water.

You'd die in a sinking boat with your animals?

If you read the story you will find the section that implies they couldn't locate them!

Well done kitties! Domesticated cats can obviously swim, they just don't like to.
11:06 PM on 08/14/2013
well actually cats are semi-wild at best which is why they come and go as they please

So glad everyone survived, however the kitties may not want to go boating again.

I think they all live on the boat. It says they lost most of their possessions.

Years ago I took a small row boat out fishing and my companion started laughing. My cat, upset because he was left at the dock, had jumped in and was swimming out to us. I never did understand if he just loved boats or wanted to be joined to my hip. But there he was. From then on he either came fishing with me or howled in his cage while we were gone.

Not much you can do for cats when a ship is sinking. Just abandon ship and hope the cats follow suit! Cats can swim.
