Stick this woman in the same jail cell as Jodi Arias and let the two violent women battle it out, it will save the tax payers money.

Why are we letting murderers live? Is it because most of this country is a murderer in their own hearts? It is not because they are violent, but because they allow evil into their souls. And it was this way from the beginning.

Quit supporting life and start denying these people free care for the rest of their misserable lives. God is still waiting for these souls for their real court case, with their victims. Send them to Him.

its the cities fault. allowing a person with that type of disability to be off the medication homeless and free to have an episode at any given time. this goes right back to homelessness being a huge issue.

And if the city were to have gotten her off the streets and locked her away in a mental intitution before she committed this crime, then you would have been screaming that the city was abusing her rights.
Where does the personal accountability of this woman or the responsibilities of the family come into play to get this woman help with her mental illness before she goes off of her medication of becomes homeless?

Because tax payers don't want to pay for the mentally ill to be housed for life times, there is a mandate to clear the state hospitals and make them short term care facilities.

She was homeless and not with her family. If it weren't for Reaganomics, she would have been in a mental institution instead of out murdering people.

The hero of this story is the 80-year-old woman who tried to protect her younger friend from a lunatic with a knife. Two valuable lives destroyed for nothing, The policy, which began under Reagan, of saying that the mentally ill can't be held for treatment against their will, has released truly crazy people onto our streets. Even if we had the money to institutionalize all these people, the way the law is written now, we couldn't if they didn't want treatment. I know this is a complicated issue-- the Soviet Union used to imprison people under the pretext that they were mentally ill--but the result of this policy is multiple murders, rapes, maimings, and other violent crimes committed against blameless people every year.

" The policy, which began under Reagan, of saying that the mentally ill can't be held for treatment against their will, has released truly crazy people onto our streets."

This statement sounds like everyone else but the family of this murderer is at fault and responsible for what this sick demented women did.
Is it not a families human responsibility to make sure that your child, father mother, brother sister, aunt etc. does not hurt themselves and others. Is it not a families responsibility to acknowledge when there is something wrong with a person near and dear to them and seek assistance to prevent, rather than ignore the fact that something is wrong and make it everyone's problem.

Why is it always someone else's problem, but the one's that created and ignored the actual issues and facts???????

Because of family members, friends and acquaintance's ignoring the possibility of this person having a mental issue. They have released a murderer onto our streets and not someone that made a political decision.

No, it's not the family's responsibility with respect to adults. And some people have dead parents and no siblings or children. It is the responsibility of the police and courts to keep dangerous people off the streets.

Longterm care for the mentally ill is prohibitively expensive for most families and, unlike longterm care for the aged, is not something that can be effectively planned for. I make a lot of money, comparatively speaking, and if I had to pay what a friend of mine is paying for the care of his schizophrenic son, I'd be broke.

This is one of the areas where our medical system is most vehemently broken. I can't blame any family whose mentally ill family member is on the street--even if they COULD afford longterm care, their relative could walk out of the facility any time he or she wanted. Not until they've ALREADY committed a violent crime can they be committed against their will.

I agree that personal responsibility is widely dodged in this society, but not in this area. This is virtually impossible to deal with.

Anyone who commits murder should be put to death. We do not have to show compassion, as the compassionate thing is to let them have their real trial with God and the person whom they murderered. The more that we put behind bars, the fewer there are out here to support them. Get real, and start the death penalty back.

I don't oppose the death penalty, although I do oppose it for those who are demonstrably mentally ill. And I don't share your apparent belief that "God" puts anyone on trial, any more than he makes people kill each other. I think "God" is pretty much absent from this equation.

Why is this witch getting to live when she killed 2 people out of cold blood? I don't understand how/why the prosecutors/defense atty. get to make plea deals with people accused of murder. I think if you kill someone, and it is not in self defense, then you automatically should get the needle, and not after being on death row for 20+ years either. The killers death sentence should be carried out within 6 months if there is DNA, confession made, video of the crime, ETC. basically 100% proof that the accused committed the crime.

Look, we know that liberals are dense, but George was defending himself, and this woman attacked these two foreigners. No reasonable comparrison. This woman needs to be put to death, like all murderers. We have got to stop supporting the evil in this world.

She would have been in a mental institution if not for republican Reaganomics. Fact checking is not the horrible thing that your friends would have you believe it is, and then you wouldn't be caught saying things that most people know are false!

Our justice system takes too long...and then they're too lenient, etc. It's maybe due to the fact that we're too free and the democrates don't believe in punishing anyone for anything.

When approached by a Klingon, You know to be on guard (see movies). So, This is why Blacks have become the modern day Klingons of our society.
02:02 PM on 08/31/2013
What you do is generalize people by color. Like they all do it! Very ignorant statement! Most serial killers in America are white, does that mean all white American do this? I don't think so!
06:21 PM on 08/31/2013
There is an inherent violence in Blacks, just as there is in The Klingons.  Whites do more white-collar crimes. The numbers show that more all around crime and violence is committed by Blacks.   I view them as Klingons. It is wise to be on guard in their presence.

I hope she serves out her sentence at the state's facilities for the criminally mentally ill.
02:44 PM on 08/31/2013
Not, she should fry to save us all a lot of tax dollars. She is definitely of no use to anyone. Why do we keep paying and supporting useless non productive people? And kick the good hard working struggling people in the rear. Does anyone ever think about that? Or have we become so suppressed that we can not think straight anymore.

I think straight.  I think that mentally ill people should be treated in a facility equipped to help them, not tortured in jail or prison where help is little or not available.  All modern nations of the Earth realize this principle.  It is only because this country has failed to provide National Health Services for the entire population like every other major industrialized country on Earth, that this woman may not have had the opportunity to access health care before this tragedy happened.

One way or another the other inmates won't be too happy with her....
12:22 PM on 08/31/2013
I believe no matter what this woman may or may not have been diagnosed with, either way, the situation could have still happened down the line if a person like this decided not to take their meds. There is such a thing, as many refuse to believe and blame it all on mental issues as simple, cold blooded killers. All there is too it. Her intent was to rob, she had a weapon and knew what to do. As a young student in NYC, I've seen first hand that some students are capable of being extremely violent to get money or an item of value. Its a matter of kids raised with or without a conscience and lack of respect for others. But if parents don't intervene when they are young, some kids can turn into violent cold blooded killers.
No matter how many doctorate degrees one has, one will never be able to read ones mind to really tell if someone like this is lying to get off a harsh sentence. They aren't mind readers. Some places, more than others are very violent places. I know the contrast, lived in the city. It is how it is. She needed money, she robbed and killed. She now got what she deserved. At least she now has a permanent home. All about a conscience. Psychiatrists, though wouldn't get paid if half their clients admitted to the lack thereof. So we call people fancy names these days.

geo...I'm surprised that you see this inclination in your fellow students....really terrible! We are talking about a serious mental condition in a person who's homeless and medication-less...!
11:35 AM on 08/31/2013
Its pretty sad that they can only diagnose and treat mentally ill people after they're in jail awaiting a certain prison sentence.
12:08 PM on 08/31/2013
And its sad that two people had to die on a vacation because they crossed paths with an evil, violent individual who's intent was to rob for money or valuables. Had I been able to give them advice prior, I'd have warned them about going to Atlantic City. Even if she had been treated for the potential schizophrenia she has, had she stopped taking meds oneday, same thing, different. day, would have happened.
12:45 PM on 08/31/2013
America is a violent culture and I would agree that I would advise anybody who wants to travel here to think twice. This country is a hell hole filled with horrible people. But if we helped a couple of the mentally ill people it would help ease the burden.
