More stupid people trying to change something that has always been a part of our lives. No one twists your arm to believe. So if you believe fine, if you don't thats okay too. The important thing is, What gives you the right to change something that millions believe in just to satisfy your own personal agenda. T.Vs have channels and an off switch. and there are countries that differs in its beliefs on religion. Here is the real kicker folks, this couples children will interact with other kids as they grow and unless their parents raise them in a cave, they will be subjected to many different nationalities and grow thought processes of their own. Who knows these kids could grow to be defenders of the faith or persons with a deep respect for others choices. NUFF SAID

So why can't we take it back to its original form? Why does your god need to be used as a cheap political tool?
03:37 PM on 09/05/2013
and the folks that changed it back in 1954 to include the phrase "under God" where it had previously been absent? They didn't have an agenda? Is that what you're saying?
04:23 PM on 09/05/2013
In the 50's we had McCarthy and his anti communist diatribes and accusing people of being sympathizers to a socialist country where religios freedoms and beliefs were crimes against the govt. I can only assume that this was a way of declaring our freedom to choose and to also show that as a democratic nation we were opposed to despots and tyrants.at least in the dark end of that decade, but, what about from the beginning of our country when we fought for our independance from the british? All through history. God has always been mentioned in one way or another. these are the freedoms we enjoy today. so if you believe in God, good for you and if you don't, good for you. See, it dosn't matter one way or the other you could be right or you could be wrong. I could be right or I could be wrong. what matters is if you have children as I do our responsability is to give them structure teach them right from wrong to be productive men and women and you dont' have to use God in any of it and as adults they will make their own choices.Change comes slowly. so lets agree to disagree. If i saw you on the side of a road with car problems I wouldn't ask you if you were an atheist or a believer, muslim or jew. its about
respect.

attacking god? god was never mentioned in the constitution, money nor the pledge until 1950's... the founding fathers were seecularists or atheists... this country was founded based upon freedom of (and from) religion. Believe what you want, however keep religion out of government and public institutions.

a number of the founding fathers were deists. Jefferson for sure. Hs conception of God was not anything most Christians would recognize, but more akin to Aristotle's Prime Mover.

I grew up in Boston (Charlestown), I went to Bunker Hill Elementary School, C.R. Edwards Jr., High School and Charlestown High. Every morning we said the Pledge of Allegiance and a prayer. They have removed prayer from the schools and now some idiot wants to have :Under God" removed from the Pledge of Allegiance. Now I have to say if they don't want their child/children saying "Under God", then either have them leave the classroom or better yet Home School them. I went to Jr., High with a girl who did not do the Pledge of Allegiance, she just stood there until it was over, and the problem is. Why should the rest of the children be penalized because of this. Next thing, they will want "In God We Trust" removed from the money. I bet you right now that does not bother them. There is to much going on in this world right now to worry about "Under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance. My question is, were these people born here or did they immigrate here, if they immigrated, then they need to go back to where they came from. If the government steps in and removes "Under God" which was placed in the Pledge of Allegiance in 1954, then it is time e get a new government. I guess some people have nothing better to do with their time then to cause trouble.

the question better phrased is "who is being penalized"? The people forced to say "under God" (or remain awkwardly and anxiously silent), or the people demanding everyone to agree that God somehow was involved in the making of, and shaping of, this country?
The neat thing about our founding was, it was a revolt against religious persecution, not a sanctioning of prayer in "public" schools. Provided in our liberty sustained by this Republic is a sanctioned Right for you to go wherever you feel you must, plenty of places OUTSIDE of public funded areas, to worship in the way you feel you should.
02:57 PM on 09/05/2013
How were you penalized because she didn't say it. You weren't were you, you didn't like it. I hope this does not bother her she did nothing wrong, you judged her. Had any kids immigrated and had to leave because of her...NO. She was not causing trouble she was exercising her right. You think she just went there to cause trouble.....really!!! JUDGE NOT LEST YOU BE JUDGED. She was within her right. You were wrong....a mean girl!

like the human appendix, it's a useless appendage forced on children to bear, and schools to administer, by a fearful segment of the population worried somehow our kids would grow up to be attached to some other country than the one that they grew up in.
As if the "Pledge" would cure widespread disaffection with this country in the first place.
02:59 PM on 09/05/2013
Actually the human appendix being 'useless' has been disproven as it has a very important use. More specifically, it acts as a storage for beneficial bacteria in the event of a stomach purging illness.

More of God's principles practiced in his theocracy: women who weren't virgins upon their wedding nights or were raped in the city and didn't have the courtesy to scream during the event were stoned. As a woman, I'm, oh, so very grateful that we don't live in a theocracy and that I'm no longer a Christian.

If you insist on brain-washing you child, enroll them in a prvate cathoic school... but keep your hypocritical religious believes out of tax funded intstitutions.

01:58 PM on 09/05/2013
The majority should rule, if more than 50% want their kids to say the pledge as is, they to should have the right. How can 2 people decide for all what they can and can not do. If you don't want your kid to put in "under God", then just tell them not to say it while the rest of the kids do - end of story.

What law would that be?

Please cite where in the Constitution or the Bill of Rights you find the words "separation of church and state".

The only historical reference to that term has nothing to do with any federal law, but comes from a letter by Thomas Jefferson assuring that the federal government will not interfere with religion in America.
