800,000 sent home. Interesting. That would mean, then, that 800,00 workers are not essential, not needed. So, "lean" does work.

What's really disgusting to me is that this whole fiasco is just a desperate attempt by Republicans to sabotage the economic recovery. While the economy is still shaky, it's been in steady recovery for over a half decade. It's really hard to argue at this point in time that Obama's policies haven't worked to a significant degree considering what he inherited.

The only thing Republicans can do at this point in time to continue with their inane meme that they are "the party of fiscal responsibility and prudence" is to essentially sabotage Obama's last few years in office at any cost. It's painfully transparent that this is what they are trying to do right now.

For example, Republicans aren't primarily concerned that Obamacare will fail (although some of them genuinely believe it will). They fear that Obamacare will work and effectively disprove the economic philosophy that is the cornerstone of their party. When you listen to conservative AM radio shows, or even CSPAN legislative debates, the Republicans never focus on whether focus on whether Obamacare will work or not; they simply demand that it MUST fail because it represents something offensive given their ideology.

What Republicans should be doing at this time is accepting that their political philosophies don't work and are increasingly unappealing to most Americans. Instead, they have resigned themselves to committing political homicide at the expense of the American people. This is unforgivable.

They can file for unemployment and get food stamps like the rest of the people in this nation.

Unfortunately these gov't workers will probably get back pay so we won't even help with the deficit with this shutdown. A wasted opportunity to reduce the debt we are leaving the children.

Many have already lost pay because of sequester.
This has been on a while now and the GOP continues to play games with peoples lives

More than Target, GM, and Exxon combined? And there are people who think the federal government isn't too big...

The effects of financial stress caused by no fault of one's own actions, such as is the case for the over 800,000 workers now not collecting pay, will make people very sick. Hypertension, anxiety disorders, suicidal ideations, heart attacks, panic attacks and so on.
The Republicans are cutting access to needed healthcare AND making otherwise healthy people actually sick.
