Buck up, China. Folks here in the USA are paying upwards of 6 bucks for something that tastes like hot water poured over charcoal. And gladly.

Bold coffee may just not be for you. I buy coffee there rarely, but when I do, it is top notch. They can charge whatever the market will bear. This is an article that should not be here a second day.

They don't even roast their own pesticide laden brew on site anymore. Enjoy your over-priced brew.

I'm not seeing the problem, really. Gouging is what happens when there is a shortage of a good, not a company using discretion on an easily competitive and available product. :/

Your customers can afford to pay more? BRAG ABOUT IT

Well if a Chinese person can afford more than $4.50 for a large iced mocha then their wages are better than here.

As more and more people become unable to afford things like Starbucks, market forces will either impose reality or force them to close.

Well, on a resent trip to Berlin and to Moscow I had coffee at Starbucks and they were more expensive than here in the States. Am I upset? No! I've been traveling to other first world countries since the late 60's and you know what? On the whole US prices for most things are cheaper. Never been to China but why should it be any different there for a world commodity.

MacDonalds is also more expensive in Germany than in the US, but I'll bet the employees are better paid. I have a suspicion that, considering where in China Starbucks is located (like the entrance to the Forbidden City in Beijing), a lot of their customers are either foreign tourists or the nouveau-riche among the Chinese, who can afford it.

Get over yourself, please. We all know that you are a person of extremely high class and taste when it comes to everything. You are often consulted by well-read magazines when it comes to selecting their top coffee, wine, food, jogging shorts, firearms, restaurants, cattle prods, etc. of the year. You are known to darn your own socks instead of paying Hanes to manufacture six pairs for $10. You are the most interesting conservativepundit in the world. We just don't want to hear about it.

Americans have been taking it in the shorts for many years. The Chinese are experts at creating knock offs and it's only a matter of time before Starbucks will have local competitors.
