Giving Harry Reid the Racist a free pass?
Why again?

As if Obama didn't know this about Harry Reid before joining forces with him in 2008. What won't Obama sell down the river for his own personal gain?
01:38 PM on 01/11/2010
Sellouts.

Is protecting Obama Bush Lite so important that any trace of a legitimate discussion about ending racism is off the table?

So, when, if ever, did theGOPers DEMONSTRATE the ability to GOVERN?
01:54 PM on 01/11/2010
Psst...Obama is failing as President because GOPers don't have the ability to govern.

....and I totally agree with the CBC. The GOP cannot cry more than the bereaved.

They are playing politics. It is ALL ABOUT HEALTH CARE, folks.

Between Glenn beck, Sean Hannity , Rush Limbaugh, Fox news and many GOP members, there have been enough racist statements and actions to disband the GOP.

I support Sen. Reid. Period. At least, he has the decency to say "I am sorry" without blaming someone else.

"Between Glenn beck, Sean Hannity , Rush Limbaugh, Fox news and many GOP members, there have been enough racist statements and actions to disband the GOP."

Exactly. Which is why they're so fervently latching onto Reid's lapse of judgement. We can come up with 100 examples of GOP racist statements and actions to every 1 example from the left.

Hence, the 'faux outrage'.

I think it's high time this country acknowledged that black americans have very graciously endured (and keep enduring) a lot of *very* ignorant statements and attitudes from others, who seem to have no clue whatsoever that they are being insensitive.

The only difference here is that the mess is being played out in a public forum. Just more of the same bull.

This is part of a much bigger problem, but no one will admit it. Shame.

You fall right into the double standard though, so what's ur point, if a repub would have said what reid said you'd be singing to a different tune

So Obama's campaign was a conspiracy to fool white America into thinking we can be articulate. Whatever! Good campaign, hidden agenda no i don't think so. You JM, are reading way too much into him, and are obviously still star struck. That's fine. Him being the first black president brought a tear to my eye's the day before the election but im over that now.

3-5-7, not sure what point you are trying to make, but your level of silliness renders your point moot. Perhaps you should go back and read Wallace, Maddox, Thurmond, Duke, et al, then come back and talk about speeches about race that are indeed racist.

Repubs and conservatives claim a double standard. But really there isn't one. Here's how it breaks down:

1. If you belong to party that tries to help the poor, minorities, etc... and you say something offensive, and you apologize, its ok.

2. If you belong to a party that tries to disenfranchise the poor, minorities, etc... and you say something offensive AND you generally pussyfoot around the apology, offering the lame, conditional "IF I offended" then you should be hammered.

Reid and Michael Steele should hold a joint press conference in front of Black and Native America leaders. (Over a dunk tank comes to mind.) Make a bipartisan apology and move on.

This 'faux outrage' would be laughable if it were not meant to do one thing and one thing only; stifle healthcare reform. The GOP doesn't care one whit whether or not blacks were offended by Reid's remark(this black female wasn't). After all, this was the same GOP that had nothing to say about the blantantly offensive signage at teaparties across the U.S.. NOT ONE WORD. They're just using this as an opportunity to unseat Reid and grind the passage of the healthcare bill to a halt.

Unfortunately, we'll have to stomach this being played out for several more news cycle as the MSM willingly does the GOP's bidding to keep this non-issue an issue.
01:08 PM on 01/11/2010
You are so right...this is just one more thing that some folks will use to keep people focused on anything and everything but HEALTH CARE REFORM. I am a 54 year old black woman!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You are right on this one. Let it freekin go. Another silly distraction blown entirely out of proportion by the right. They ARE trying to throw distractions into the news cycle. Next it'll be something goofier. They want it to be another talking point to bring up when they go to elections in 2010....(yawn)
12:27 PM on 01/11/2010
I'm still not sure what he is apologizing for. Is being referred to as a light-skinned African-American with fluent language skills a bad thing, especially since it seems to be a fairly accurate description of our President? What's the problem? In today's paper, (AP) Steele has the gall to compare Reid's comparably harmless statement to Trent Lott speaking favorably of Thurmond's segregationist presidential platform of 1948.

if obama was white he speaking skills would never be a compliment or even brought up but since he is black he is expected to speak with what reid call a "knee grow" dialect but it's ok because black people hate themselves so much that we accept what they expect out of us.

But Obama is not white, and no other Black politician has ever been taken seriously. There are realities here. You think there is nothing to what Reid said?
12:26 PM on 01/11/2010
Let's ask Donovan McNabb and other black NFL players about Reid's comments...hmmm
