Why the problem? Actually, people who are capable of thinking and take the time to do so KNOW that it is INSANE to follow Bush policies. Your president has changed NOTHING relative to the last 9 years.

Dear Mr. O, mustn't feel bad, really. It's us, not you. We poor shleps are unable to grasp the intricacies of modern government where Democrats now adhere to the Republican trickle down theory that giving to the wealthy and providing welfare to the corporation while taxing worker health benefits is a boon for the middle class.

Forgive us our ignorance for continuing to believe that Democrats practice percolator economics where providing aid and support for the middle class and the poor while asking the wealthy and the corporate to carry their fair share in taxes will be a boon to all.

We are slow learners, Mr O.

They are. This article is so completely biased in that it sets this stage, based on some facts, then draws some very wrong conclusions from it.

So he bowled a 37 whoopdee, lots of Candidates and Presidents have sucked at Bowling, I doubt that was the deciding factor for people when voting in 2008...
President Obama's disconnect is not with the Middle Class as much as it is "Middle America... He should land Air Force One and bring the Presidential Motorcade out to the Heartland and speak directly to and take questions from the people out this way... Drop into Tennessee, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Indiana,Texas, Montana or New Mexico (for example) on occasion...
Oh and will someone please inform him that the Ford-150 has been the #1 selling vehicle in United States for last 30 years and that hordes of us Pick-up truck drivers managed to drive them to the polls to vote for him...

the middle class must not like black people then, right? (which would be another way of saying middleclass is that word that starts with R that you're not allowed to write on huffpost)

This is a message I could believe in:

"Happiness lies not in the mere possession of money; it lies in the joy of achievement, in the thrill of creative effort. The joy and moral stimulation of work no longer must be forgotten in the mad chase of evanescent profits. These dark days will be worth all they cost us if they teach us that our true destiny is not to be ministered unto but to minister to ourselves and to our fellow men."

FDR inaugruation speech.

President Obama should say things like,

"I know how hard it is for you to put food on your family."

"You work three jobs? … Uniquely American, isn't it?

and

"Rarely is the questioned asked: Is our children learning?"

I just saw President Obama's town hall meeting in New Hampshire.

I wish he had spent his time galvanizing and leading the middle class for real change instead of just connecting with them.

But it sounded more like he was campaigning for the latest Wealth Care bill for the health industry and himself.

Americans are overcharged more than twice the going rate for health care due to anti-compettive deals made with the President and Congress. That means we should be paying half what we pay! But our leaders all pretend this elephant isn't in the room and skip over the most obvious way to lower costs.

Large health interests have permission to randomly raise costs at many times the rate of inflation whenever they decide they'd like a greater profit margin at the expense of their customer. And Congress and the President have given them permission to do so.

Why are we continuing to allow this? Why won't the President directly confront this economic assault on all Americans which prevents so many from being able to afford insurance. Why try to hide this fact in another health care bill that does not address this cost factor?

We are continuing to allow this because previous presidents and Congresses have voted laws that give big companies a lot of chairs at the negotiating table.

That means that they LEGALLY have the right and the power to intervene in the legislation process, which of course they do.

Obama will have to make a lot of compromises as long as the system hasn't been fundamentally changed, and such a transformation will take years.

Why does it take years? Because you have to undo hundreds of laws. Just one example: Obama signed in his first year an Executive Order that started to take away some power from lobbyists (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/11/27/obama-pushes-lobbyists-of_n_372070.html). And this is just the beginning.

LAUGH OUT LOUD!

That is because he wouldn't know a middle class person if he stepped on one....which he makes a habit of doing frequently now.

He's heard of them though, they are the "folks" who fall back on their guns and religion.

What would we expect froma political and psychological chameleon who has yet to figure out who he realy is himself?

The unemployment rate has gone up, the debt has gone up and he has tried to ram through an unpopular health care bill.

What else can he doto"cater" to middle America?

With the President's new budget signaling that 2 trillion dollars in additional revenues (taxes) will be required over the next 10 years to pay back the Chinese for their loans, it is small wonder the Middle Class is not cozying up to the President.

Although, as usual, the President planning to sock it to the income-earners of 250k and above must also understand that this volume of debt will bleed all over the Middle Class.

The taxes will surely come from every facet of life. This will not be just an income-tax. With these proportions, all Americans, except the bottom 10 to 15% that pay no taxes will be significantly impacted.

The deficit spending that is on display in this budget is breathtaking.

Our ever-increasing need for overseas loans to meet our obligations will now explode. Surely, our debt to income ratios will make foreign banks raise the interest rates or, God forbid, stop loaning money altogether because they will see the writing on the wall that apparently our President and the Democratic leadership do not.

Meanwhile, the erosion of top income-earners will create a new middle class, and the current middle class will drop to a lower wrung under the weight of overwhelming taxation.

I do believe this is how Revolutions are started.

"Obama Struggles To Connect With Middle Class" Yeah, I bet. They are getting harder to schmooze and . he has to struggle to find them because they are disappearing so fast. While he is at it, try connecting with the needs of the growing Working Class and poor. Funny I don't hear any one say much about what is being done for them And that's where many ex-Middle Class Americans now reside, thanks to both Centrist Dems' and Neo Con Repubs' gross mismanagement since and including Carter.Or is it not exactly mismanagement, but a deliberately concealed agenda. Both Friedman and Strauss thought democracy was ridiculous, and that the people were easy to manipulate. Enough of the Friedman utopia! The Flat Earth he foresaw is a feudal one world society run by and for international Corporations. Even our Supreme Court is corrupt. Why are the Unions not in the street? Because their leaders have been compromised also?

Bingo! His policies help AIG fat cats, and South Chicago community organizers, not the middle class. We in the middle will be "payin' fer these here debts" for generations.
