that was really bad. shouting and offkey.

she always shouts though. dont get why people like her.
10:07 PM on 02/07/2010
Sounds pretty darn bad. I can't believe this is supposed to be talent.
10:03 PM on 02/07/2010
Here's a lovely and talented young singer, performing live in front of millions of people. Why do people feel compelled to post insulting remarks about her?

Come on, people. First, act with kindness. You're better than this.
10:09 PM on 02/07/2010
Lovely, yes. Talented, meh.

I expect she's fine in some settings. This was not the best for her.
10:10 PM on 02/07/2010
bad is bad. should we call something bad good?

there are many more, much more talented singers who could have done better. the guy from the military who sang in one of the games in last year's world series was way better.

IMO...Whitney sang the best National Anthem at a Superbowl out of all that I have heard...

If we only had a "free" press!

Thanks. I agree Whitney was the best -- and we were a much better country then, or so it seemed.

I think the best was Marvin Gaye's rendition...Marvin style.

Underwood....Swift...most of the other "singers" today...all the same
10:11 PM on 02/07/2010
swift needs to take voice lessons. good thing about her is she writes or co-writes her own songs. underwood just sings.

Raw, irreverent, rational and real.

Yuck. Just awful. She oversings and goes flat all the time. Overwrought and overdone. The last note was almost a half step flat, basically just a wrong note. Yuck!

Sadly, most of the country has never heard good singing. They wouldn't recognize if they heard it.

But, there is a great tradition of music in the US and there are a lot of great musicians out there.... just don't look for them on Idol or the radio... or apparently at the Super Bowl.

I would make an exception for Whitney Houston at the Superbowl in 1993...

That would be correct had she actually sang the song instead of lip-syncing it.
09:34 PM on 02/07/2010
sort of average - flat and nothing unique about it - same old country sound -

Another example of a singer trying to make the anthem about them, and not the country. Clearly trying too hard, "look how long and loud I can hit these notes!" kind of mentality. Have to admit, I did chuckle on the last note. She mismanaged how much air she had left, the kind of petered out. Maybe she and Taylor Swift can get together and do a crappy duo?

Go Saints.
09:19 PM on 02/07/2010
Yeah, that was kind of my feeling, too. She was showing off herself, not her country.
10:12 PM on 02/07/2010
she has to do that because she's been overshadowed and overtaken by taylor swift.

She did fine ... until the very last note. Then YIKES!
09:04 PM on 02/07/2010
That's what I thought. I came here to see if anyone else heard it that way...
07:13 AM on 02/08/2010
Ditto. I guess she held the "land of the FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE" a little too long and didn't have enough mojo for the "home of the BRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAVE".
