America has lost a lot status in the healthcare world. We like to say off the top of our heads "We are the best this or that," but in reality we've fallen behind. For many this is too unpleasant to look at; but this is the way it is (and don't quote Twain and be dismissive):

My observation and speculation is this: America has been the leader in the sciences and also in the creative world throughout modern history, over a century. We are beginning to slip; why? How is this happening?

What has happened since the 80s, we have become truly crassly materialistic, which was the foundation of our economic collapse. What happens when a society, a country falls into that mindset? It becomes the camel trying to get through the eye of the needle. In order to be innovative, your geniuses, brilliant people can't be tied to a day-to-day job, like everybody else. How many people with talent can't survive pursuing their vision, get locked into a job where their creativity is squalored? They can't afford to do risky things that could benefit mankind or at least contribute to American culture in the world because they have to work and inferior job for their talents, IN ORDER TO HAVE HEALTHCARE?

Can you imagine what can come from our citizens' accomplishments when people are free to experiment, take on risky or temporary endeavors and be able to do so BECAUSE THEY WILL HAVE INSURANCE ANYWAY?

Sure, there is still opportunity in this country; but can you imagine things that will be discovered or created when some of our finest won't be married to a stupid job and not be able pursue their dreams? Many creative venues (plays, touring with an unknown band) are temporary. Do you have any idea how that holds our country and American culture back? Can you see how this "Socialist" system can stabilize and actually wind up contributing to and enhancing our Capitalist system itself?

Just a thought.

Great Dennis that you finally saw the light. You can always make changes to a bill that has been passed. If it does not pass then the Republicans will say they have won when they did absolutely nothing for the 40,000 Americans who will die because they don't have health care. They have not shown any compassion for the American people who are really hurting while the insurance companies are laughing all the way to the bank. Someday they will all have to answer for what they are doing. Just say you want millions to go to Iraq and the Iraqi people and they will pass the bill without blinking an eye just like the Republicans did for George Bush.

For those of you who wanted Dennis’s head on a platter let this be a lesson to you. He asked for nothing and got nothing. This is called integrity. He along with a handful of others in Washington still have it. Call him what you wish except for a crooked politician. He has principals, integrity and more importantly cares not only about Ohio but the nation as a whole.

Not surprising, huh? Remember, this is the "game" of politics, and Kucinich is just playing his role in it at this time.

"(Barry - sleeves rolled up) Now Dennis, let me be clear, this thing is 2700 pages!....we can make it whatever you want it to be...you can make it dance...sing, whatever. I've been making stuff up for 8 months!...nobody is going to read this whole thing, just vote YES and then tell your constituents it has whatever they want it to have...who cares? What matters is that WE get control of more of the public sector and take more decisions away from citizens..you know that! You've got the D after your name..we need those illegals on the rolls...you've seen the polls...come on now!"

this bill allow insurance companies to RAISE PREMIUMS .......that will STILL be legal........so much for controlling costs.......

only thing that will be illegal is for insurances to raise premiums for pre existing conditions.

in another words..................insurance nightmare of high costs will still get higher.

we are back to square one folks.........

the ONLY reason singlepayer is not a viable option is b/c lobbyists took it off the table.....NOT b/c americans didn't want it......

i say no deal is better than a duct tape bill that keeps enabling a broken system.

american people can take a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT of crap before they do anything.........

let the system get even worse to the point where practically everyone takes to the street and demand singlepayer.

only way to change this broken system is through a revolution........keeping this system alive does more harm than good.

"i say no deal is better than a duct tape bill that keeps enabling a broken system".

I like HR676 too. But, it's a good thing that Kucinich, and the other sponsors of HR676, don't share your opinion that "no deal" is an option.

funny how majority of americans want it and the president can't push what americans want through.........funny ..........excuses excuses.............

when there's a war.........money is no object

when there's banks to be bailed out..........money is no object

when people need single payer..........suddenly there's no money..........

you keep believing what congress tells you ...........last time i checked this was a democracy.

mark my words.........premiums will only for some time go down a miniscule amount.......then they will go up again..........why?

b/c PRIVATE INSURANCE are in this as a BUSINESS to make $$$$$.

gov't will not be able to regulate..........gov't can't even regulate the banks.

rather than weakening private insurance.........this bill only strengthens this cancer in our illness system.
