great, now attach it to a military spending act and maybe we will get somewhere.
11:31 AM on 03/21/2010
Mr. Grayson, I hope you gain hero status for all of us. You're definitely on your way to deserving it.
12:28 PM on 03/21/2010
You really said it for millions of Americans. It's pathetic, but whenever I hear that one or two Congresspeople has our back, I am immensely encouraged.

Too late! We need him here in South Carolina, I've already claimed him :-) Florida can have Joe "You Lie!" Wilson and Jim "The Family" DeMint in return.

I'm in North Florida and we're stuck with Ander - toe the Republican line - Crenshaw. At least Grayson is in our state. South and Central Florida get all the good reps.

Alan Grayson is right.
Again.

If Grayson meant it about a Medicare buy in, he wouldn't have withdrawn his amendment to the HCR bill without insisting on a vote:

Grayson (FL) #2

Withdrawn Would allow any American citizen or permanent resident to buy into Medicare at cost and benefit from Medicare parts A, B, and D. The amendment creates six age brackets (actuarial pools) and requires each pool to be solvent or pay for itself.
12:14 PM on 03/21/2010
Grayson seems like a genuine guy. But the Corporacratic Party is in favor of real health reform only when there's no chance of it passing into law.
12:31 PM on 03/21/2010
Had to fan you for that one, although I also believe the reason Grayson's not attached to the vote today is because this really now needs a separate vote. Obama made that pretty clear.

I bet you'll be very interested in the attached article--unless you already have it bookmarked (!): http://www.salon.com/news/opinion/glenn_greenwald/2010/03/12/democrats/

As long as the Graysons, Bachmans, Wilsons and Pelosis are in Congress . . . this country is going to continue being totally divided.

Every Republican is an enemy of the citizens of the Unites States. Supporters and their low wattage rank and file doubly so.

Why don't you take them on then if they are your enemy . . .

Agreed. So let's get rid of the Bachmans, Wilsons, Boehners and Cantors and then problem solved.

Simply proposing a bill isn't the same thing as seeing it through to a vote. We see that with the fact that progressives propose this sort of thing all the time, and then cave on their principles whenever asked.

Lieberman, Stupak, Lincoln, Landrieu and the rest hold firm and are willing to block things to get what they want, so they do. Until Grayson is willing to block something the President wants to force this through, it's just a way to raise money.

What we need more than people announcing this sort of thing is tallied votes on it. Get the politicians to put on paper whether or not they support medicare for everyone, or for that matter.. just medicare.

Or not. There is nothing I hate more than hiding behind the statement "there wouldn't be enough votes on it, so we never voted on it".
10:36 PM on 03/20/2010
"Get the politicians to put on paper whether or not they support medicare for everyone"

1. 60+ House Dems were on paper saying they'd vote against ANY health care bill without a public option . . . a politician's word means nothing.

2. Medicare has so many issues right now that adding anyone else before making the program sustainable is just insane.

That's what I mean. Make them vote on it, and if their voting record doesn't match their promises elect them out.

I personally hate the way the dems compromised over and over to the repubs, even though the Rs were clearly not willing to engage. I think they should have gone MORE left as a response to the Rs not contributing.

Your point number two is incorrect, most if not all of medicare's problems are because of people not having insurance until age 65 or at least having crappy insurance. This would fix that.
07:56 PM on 03/20/2010
Grayson is the kind of man that strikes fear into Republicans.

They will stop at nothing to bring him down.

No matter what they throw at him we need to support him in every way humanly possible.

Do not let the forces of evil win ever again.

The price of freedom is eternal vigilance.
10:28 PM on 03/20/2010
It's not enough to propose a good bill. Reps do it all the time. You have to fight for it, and even block the President on something he wants, to force the support you need to get a vote up and to get leaders to whip for it.

Proposing a bill and not playing hardball to get it passed is just preening feathers. It raises money, but it doesn't mean anything.

"Grayson is the kind of man that strikes fear into Republicans"

I doubt it, he's a fringe loony toon like Bachman is and only appeals to the fringe.

How is he "loony toon"? I have never seen him not make sense about things. Also do note, he is currently polling in the lead for the Republican! primary in his district, or at least was last week.

We need an American Nobel prize. With the first one going to Alan Grayson.
10:29 PM on 03/20/2010
He hasn't gotten anything passed yet. How many Nobel Prizes have to go out for speeches? Can't we wait to see some results?

Maybe not. Maybe there won't be any.

The real block to the public option is the insurance companies and the political influence they buy. that is why this billis so complicated. At least we prtty much know who has been bought and who hasn't. Remember that in Nov. We have to get rid of the members of both parties who arn't doing the peoples business.
10:38 PM on 03/20/2010
Considering the theory of only Rs are bought off by evil corporations . . . it should have been easy to get a public option right?

They don't need to support it, they just need to do what doctors all over the country are doing . . . not accepting or limiting the amount of Medicare & Medicaid patients.
