Lobbyist, wanna make something of it?

Linkins, you're a hack. How does the WH "half-heartedly" renominate someone? Either they did it, or they didn't. Her nomination has been languishing for months just like the nominations of countless others - let's lay blame at the feet of the GOP where it belongs and quit with the tortured (no pun intended) rationalizations for blaming just about everything but the weather on President Obama.

So why no recess appointment?

How forceful has been the President in pushing for her nomination?

How many phone calls and face to face did he have with senior lawmakers?

And, as NoProblem asked: Why no recess appointment?

Makes me wonder who's the hack here? Jason, for pointing out facts, or you, for defending Obama in the face of contrary evidence?
01:37 PM on 04/12/2010
I'd be more convinced MarieNat, if you could point to a forceful effort or argument on the part of the administration to make this happen. It fits all too well with the pattern of hiding behind Republican/Senate resistance, while never once making a strong case and push to get the nominee, legislative item, etc. through.

Prepare for you bashing, Jason.

Obama is an opportunist through and through and took us all who voted for him for a grand ride. His treatment of the Johnsen nomination is just another example. He does everything and more that we riled against GW Bush for, but with an "innocent smile". He is more dangerous than GW because at least we knew where he was coming from. Independants like me must vote him OUT the next time around.

I'd hoped she'd be named during the Easter recess...not feeling great about this loss.

Did Charlie McCarthy ever say or do anything without Edgar Bergan's consent. Washington is the biggest puppet show in history, with a corporate puppet press cover it. By accepting and never questioning the anomalies of 911

Yup, shame on you Obama. Power corrupts... without a doubt.

I'm going to set up a betting website, whitehousesucker.com or progressivetease.gov or yeahrightwewilldothatrealsoonnow.not...

You'll be able to bet on the future of any truly progressive thing proposed by the Obama administration. Be it something like the public option, a Dawn Johnsen-like progrssive nomination, a Supreme Court nominee to the left of Sotomayor, you'll bet on the odds of that thing ever making it to the light of day.

For those paying attention, it will be a sure bet every time. Wait for the latest soft porn charade for sucker-liberals like me to pop their Woody of Doom. Then slice, dice, withdraw, back down... it's back to the limp middle road and hope for the "long game"...

alex,..I'd say the 'odds' should've been pretty high that Ob would vote in a nominee who's proven left of Sotomayor,..especially now that we see how justice really weighed in on her lofty scales with the recent SC decision not to uphold the constitution in favor of CORPORATIONS AS persons with voting rights and un-limited campaign contributions!! Even with another leftey brought in it's still far too packed with Radical Conservatist-Activists!!
01:38 PM on 04/12/2010
Do you REALLY expect that Obama is going to propose "any truly progressive thing"? Obama's actions are less of a progressive than Nixon, Reagan, Bush I, and (quite possibly) Bush II were.
01:49 PM on 04/12/2010
Yes, I do expect him to propose progressive nominees, legislative items, etc, yes -- because he has done this. Several times. Dawn Johnsen was one example.

But no, I don't expect him to *fight to pass* these things -- the critical part -- because he has not done these things.

Whatever his reasons, it's not in Obama's calculus for now, perhaps never will be, to make strong pushes for left-of-center agenda items.

That's my point, whatever his reasons/motives/plans -- he's just not fighting for progressive ideals. So that's what I'll continue to not expect, until he makes me expect otherwise, nominations and proposals like these aside. Until then, it's like with any politician -- pressure, pressure, pressure. From us progressives who want change and are willing to, as Obama asked us to, make them do it.

What ever happened to GOOD journalism? Anyone can have an opinion!!

You might try Talking Points Memo, Ryan Grim, Sam Stein, Charlie Savage, the National Journal, Jeremy Scahill, Harper's, Jeff Sharlet, to name a few. It's out there, as are informed opinions, among whose I'd count Jason Linkins. All available here on the Interwebs and yes, right under this domain itself, huffingtonpost.com...
