I read the right's comments about "cap and trade" even as I recall current events and I conclude that if Wall Street had dreamed up "cap and trade" all by themselves the right would have zip in the way of objections. They would, in fact, insist that it was their "right"; to prohibit them from doing "cap and trade" would be socialism!!!

Their objections always essentially center around the question of whether whatever it is promises to help the few or the many.

If you can craft a program that initially appears to help only the few, you can sucker the right into supporting it.

Earth Day, the Clean Air Act & the Clean Water Act. Some of Richard Nixon's greatest achievements :-P

The economy has gotten bigger, but it has not improved.

Meanwhile, we've mad progress in controlling point source emissions (although we've basically exported much of the problem overseas with our manufacturing jobs), but global pollutants have gotten worse; species extinction and habitat loss has accelerated, and the footprint of humans has gotten larger and heavier on planet Earth.

So, Lisa, I'm sorry, but neither the environment nor the economy has improved.

Interesting that a republican, Richard Nixon, created the Environmental Protection Agency. Meanwhile the leftover thugs from the Kennedy/Johnson era were poisoning our rivers.

voteblueforever;- Nixon also scrapped the 'gold standard" to allow the creation of fiat money as we were spending more than was coming in due to perpetual wars for banksters.. Interesting the repubs shout the 'fiscal responsibility ' mantra and yet are the most fiscally and environmentally irresponsible of our so called 'leaders.. Reagan ran up the biggest deficit in US History in order to bankrupt Russia militarily ..(it worked) only to be massively outdone by Bush Jr.... our current patron (dem) is outdoing him inexpenditure .. some 60% of our tax $$ are spent on what is euphemistically called 'defence" ... the rest of funding to run the country is simply printed..debt sold to those foolish enough to finance our perpetual wars... (or smart enough dependant on who's side you are on) ...

Please cite your numbers. I think 60% is much too high for defense spending. It's more like 25% or so.

There's a serious problem with Earthday. I've been to several events over the years and watched it on TV, and I've noticed the participants are overwhelmingly white. Very sinister. These environmentalists are quite clever of masking the true racist purpose of their demonstrations. Be very afraid! If you're a minority you're taking a big risk if you show up!

I think what he is saying is that it's funny how the left demonized the Tea Party
as being mostly white and was called a racist organization by the press. This person is pointing out how the environmentalists groups are predominantly white also but do not suffer the same scrutiny. Just my guess.

Wow... this has got to be the best proof yet that Jackson is completely unqualified for her job. Not only does she fail to understand economics, she revels in it and is inclined to abuse her power to decimate the economy.

She is 100 percent right that we have no economy without the environment. Try fishing when all the sea life has died from acid rain. Try running a restaurant with no clean water. Try even running a manufacturing plant without clean water. Try running a ski area with no snow (ask the ski areas what they think of climate change). Try farming when there are no bees to pollinate plants.

She isn't the one decimating the economy, she is the one trying to fix it.

You're either kidding or you're unaware of how the economy works. The source of all human capital is natural capital.

B-b-b-but what about our addictions to consumerism, or environmental consumption. Let's not forget our admiration for the destruction of nature. It's an important component of our national ethos.

The problem with the Cap and Trade legislation isn’t the underlying reason but the approach.

We are basing this legislation on a concept that is arguably affecting our Earth … Global Warming. Even though we have seen a Noble Prize, and an Oscar about Global Warming, that does not mean we need CAP and Trade legislation to stop this impending dome day’s situation. Global warming for some is still a debatable item. In fact in an Editorial in the Los Angeles Time dated 8-26-09 we can read that the US Chamber of Commerce is seeking a “Scopes monkey trial for the 21st century” appointing a judge to hear evidence on the question of does global warming endangers Americans’ health. Since then we have seen numerous editorials about Global Warming and Cap and Trade legislation needed because of Global Warming.

Gordon:- Crap and trade is just another hogwash scheme to keep the bansters afloat ..buisness as usual..the real answer is to cut INDIVIDUAL consumption :- look..US citizens use approx 8 TIMES the available energy of Europans who are closest in living standard... we have cars that do 12 -22MPG..thiers do 35-65mpg.. we tend to wiegh 250lbs and up ..they wiegh around 160.. our kids cant read, eat the junk they are sold by our corporate masters and have no manners ... thiers seem to thrive ... we have masses of borrowed money to police the world ..they spend thiers on healtcare .transportation and other tools for real FREEDOM... many would like to come here ..WHY?? less people and greater natural rescources... that is our REAL wealth.. ..

I'm with you . But socialist Europe is demonized by the right and the uneducated and ignorant in our country buy into it. Could it be that their education is better than ours as well?

How do I feel about Global Warming and its affects? Don’t give a damn. It is all hot air and goes against the real truth. The real truth is as follows … I believe we have what I would call … Toxic Environment Syndrome or TES.

I believe the approach to fight against TES should be similar to the way we might handle our own home environment. That is to say … we would not want our kids to play in a filthy toxic back yard, drink dirty toxic water, breathe polluted toxic air, swim in toxic or dirty water, and plant a garden in toxic soil … would we? I think not. Hence we need appropriate legislation to prevent TES the pollution of our air, land and seas. This is similar in fact to our military that protects us on land, on seas, and in the air.

In fact, if we can secure ourselves militarily in the air, on the land and on the seas and rivers, then why can’t we secure ourselves environmentally in the air, on the land, on the seas, rivers and lakes?

The Global Warming discussion and influence disappears when we have as a goal to remove the toxic influence in the three major environments that are Global in nature ... Air, Land, sea, rivers and lakes?

THANK YOU GORDONS.M.!!!!!!!!!! I cannot believe people are still "debating Global Warming" when the damn issue is it's stupid to put crap in our air/water/soil/magnetosphere (that's an up-and-coming crise du monde -- you heard it here, oh, early but not first :)). Period. End of "debate." Now let's start acting like intelligent, cooperative organisms instead of frothing monkeys and sheep with razors, and let's clean this mess up, or admit you would rather fight a death match that wash yo

Profits are dear but life is dearer. Producers and distributors owe it to the world to honor life and make just enough profit to live decently, without amassing fortunes for their offspring. Instead, educate offspring to become stewards of decency and sustainable planet. Sigh, if only they would listen to me....LOL.
