People who torture animals are criminally insane. They eventually move up to committing violent crimes against people.

What abusers us humans are. We have no regard for other forms of life. We are developing into a sicker and sicker society. I wonder where the human race will end up?
03:30 PM on 04/22/2010
Pathetic. If only there were a way to make sure that this disgusting incident follows them for the rest of their lives - to every job interview, date, etc. That would be a reasonable punishment.
03:38 PM on 04/22/2010
Well the next time you do something disgusting, which you probably will, let's start the process then..

What sick, stupid little punks. Not only did they torture those poor little hamsters, but they also had to video tape and post it on line. As others on this thread have said, the next step are people, especially children.

I hope they are both forced to clean kennels and other animal stalls barefooted for the next 20 or more years. That and getting counseling.

I work with an animal shelter for around 20 years; we decline to accept abusers (either animal or human victims) for community service. The staff is terribly upset by animal abuse, and having a 'rehabilitated abuser' working there is like throwing oil on a fire. No one will trust them with defenseless animals. The USHS, ASPCA feel exactly the same way; remember Michael Vick?

He's the reason my football tickets get surrendered to my shelter for a charity auction every year. These are season tickets, much more valuable than face (scalping is illegal.) I write off my cost for the tickets and parking passes, and the shelter makes about 4 times the face. And the money goes to a great cause.

You've been doing a lot of patting yourself on the back over this Hamster story, haven't you? Maybe it's just me but I feel better when I donate to charity without making a big deal about it. In fact, I try to do it without anybody even knowing I'm doing it.

Sorry let the flaming commence but some of you are ridiculous.

IT WAS 2 HAMSTERS!

H-a-m-s-t-e-r-s!

Was it unethical ....yes.....immoral....yes......serious crime NO!
Worthy of jail time ..... NO!
Some of you people kinda make me sick.......I see more concern in a forum about tortured hamsters than most horrible stories about people. More concern about a puppy thrown off a bridge than a baby mauled by a pitbull.
I agree this was wrong and any animal cruelty is wrong but my concern is relative to my concern for our species and that creatures relationship to our species and this planet.
Start caring about your fellow humans more.........it can have alot more affect on the world we live in then giving two f***s about 2 hamsters.
03:14 PM on 04/22/2010
That's ridiculous to say people have more concern about a puppy over a baby, or hamsters over humans. They (most civilized people) have concern for all cruelty. This incident shows the debased character of two nitwits, (hopefully former college students) being inhumane to defenseless live animals. Does not matter how small, or insignificant to some they are. What was their next 'joy' move? Dogs? After that?

Everytime animals are tortured there are always people writing in about people being tortured. Why can't we just all be upset when any living creature is tortured. As for these two cretins-ten years minimum.

Actually there is very little chance of much of a sentence for these two idiots, while CA has some of the stronger Animal Welfare laws, cruelty to animals can be either a misdemeanor or a felony and is usually misdemeanor when prosecuted.

I'm also radically opposed to animal testing, unless it is way after all computer models and other sample testing has been exhausted, and it is necessary to address concerns regarding safety and effectiveness. Test animals should be shown special consideration and kindness, and it should be the financial and legal responsibility of whatever company is licensing the testing to care for the animals for the remainder of their lives. Don't even get me started on horse racing or fox hunting.

I'm a lawyer; it's a really bad sign for humanity when I get irate about something that 'regular folks' think is defensible.

Maybe it was just "enhanced interrogation" on "enemy combatant" hamsters, which would apparently mean it's just a patriotic act and not really torture at all.

After all, hamsters are brown, they don't speak english, and probably don't eat pork, so surely they are up to no good.

I'm not trying to be funny. It's angry sarcasm.

And I'm never going to stop reminding everyone at every opportunity that the U.S. is harboring war criminals who tortured human beings, although most Americans don't really seem to care when those human beings are not white, christian, americans..
