Death...the last new experience you will ever have
03:28 AM on 07/05/2010
"I can't think of a better way to celebrate Independence Day than spending it with Americans who are bravely serving our country."

Tthat is the problem with you people in Washington, you can't think of a better way. First of all, you were celebrating our country's independence in a country we are occupying by force of arms. Bet that pleased them! Afghanistan is now ruled by a corrupt regime that some other American President may decide to overthrow like we did in Iraq.

The best way to celebrate Independence Days would be to have done it here in the US with all those troops being home, where they belong! I find it absolutely disgusting that you people make such a big deal about the troops and yet you are the people who needlessly put them in harms way to begin with.

I remember standing in the heat and humidity in Vietnam so people like you could come by and act like you cared about us. If you had cared, we wouldn't have been there and neither would these men and women be where they are! These people who were naturalized probably feel great that they are now citizens. The countries they left have it pretty rough. I just wonder how long it will be before they realize that they are now a citizen of a terrorist country being sold out by the owner class and their slaves in Washington and they were nothing more than cannon fodder?

I fanned you long ago. Welcome home brother.

The MIC runs the entire Government of the United States. It runs the Presidency, the Senate, and the Congress. It runs BOTH POLITICAL PARTIES. It COMPLETELY OWNS every American from the cradle to the grave. It can take the sons and daughters of the United States in the "poverty draft" and send them to their death at ANY time for ANY contrived reason it so desires and so chooses for it's own profit. We are all living in one of the greatest systems of evil in human history.

WAR IS A RACKET
http://www.lexrex.com/enlightened/articles/warisaracket.htm

"WAR is a racket. It always has been.

It is possibly the oldest, easily the most profitable, surely the most vicious. It is the only one international in scope. It is the only one in which the profits are reckoned in dollars and the losses in lives.

A racket is best described, I believe, as something that is not what it seems to the majority of the people. Only a small "inside" group knows what it is about. It is conducted for the benefit of the very few, at the expense of the very many. Out of war a few people make huge fortunes."

Absolutely! It is interesting to see the number of people posting here that have not a clue about this. One poster has claimed that I have done a disservice to my country and to the the troops by speaking out against the war and the Biden's visit. Said I should get treated for my PTSD. This from someone that has succumbed to the brainwashing of the propagandists!

Thanks! I always find your posts to be informative and spot on. If I haven't fanned you then let me do so now!

So, when are the Afghans going to get the privilege of celebrating their own independence day from US?

And with that snotty statement you render all the deaths of young service people unimportant. Bush knew he couldn't win it or get oil..therefore he abandoned Afghanistan before it got to hard for him. Now we are having to work out different methods. And just coming home, sounds good..it isn't gonna happen.

All of these costly fireworks displays should have been put on hold. With some states such as California practically bankrupt and everyone asked to make sacrifices, the least they could do is sacrafice the expense of fireworks.

Some sacrifice on their part. What sacrifice are you talking about? They took a little time out of their luxurious life and promoted their favorite cause,The Military industrial Complex. Some sacrifice indeed.

My son called this morning to tell me he had shaken the Vice President's hand. He was really excited! Afterwards, he and some friends bought "near beer," chips, and beef patties and had a barbeque. He said that a couple of the guys set off flares for the fireworks. He told me that several of his friends had become citizens earlier that day. All in all, even though he's in Iraq, it was one of his best fourth of Julys.

Good!
I hope your son and his buddies all come home safely and soon!
I'm happy for them that they got a bit of a break. (Did they get to watch Capitol Fourth?)
Meanwhile I continue to pray for them all.

I applaud the Bidens for going into that war zone. They seem like good solid Americans to me. Traditional values. Bright. Caring. (And rich enough not to have to do this stuff.) (Can you imagine the Palins doing that?) Good for Jill for going with her husband! Good for the Bidens for bringing a touch of at-least-apparent normalcy.

We can honor the service of our troops. We can recognize the sacrifices they and their families have made. We can wish them a safe return home.

Whenever we speak of Iraq or Afghanistan, however, we must not confuse our well wishes for the troops with the pure evil of their mission. They are not, in truth, "serving the country." They are serving the greed and evil of American empire. It's critical to separate the warriors from the war. One is noble though misguided; the other is not noble at all.

To speak only of these brave troops without speaking of the utter corruption and senselessness of their mission is to lie by omission. The US invaded Iraq illegally and invaded under false pretenses. The justification given for the invasion of Afghanistan is no longer valid; al Qaeda has no meaningful presence there.

Stop the illegal, immoral wars and bring home all the troops now. Let's stop celebrating war and warriors and death and live at peace with the rest of the world.

It's a difficult discernment to make cogently and caringly and one that has dogged this country for a long time, the Vietnam un-War perhaps being the most outstanding example, at least until recently. Our solders deserve, though, as you say -- and as do their long-suffering families -- our respect, honor and diligently earnest care while they are in service and after they are discharged, often with various problems including emotional/psychological/physical ones and now employment also. It's the essential nature of military structure that soldiers are expected to and must follow the orders and organization of their superiors, their officers, or face punishments including dishonorable discharge, or harm to themselves and their fellow soldiers. The fault is not with them for doing as they're required, paid, and told but with the leaders who mislead them from the top down on occasion and who are ultimately responsible and accountable for those misdirections that effect positively and negatively life and land and livelihoods very widely and for a long, long time.

I would agree with you except for one thing. Just as the law says that in a capital crime all the participants are guilty of the murder so it is with the troops. It was one thing to be Drafted and sent to Vietnam with no other choice than to flee or go to prison, those are the guys who were true patriots, and another to voluntarily join and be willing to go and kill people who have done you no harm. A standing army is not a good thing. If there were national service requiring everyone to be trained and armed that would be one thing. To have a standing army that venal self serving people like Bush, and Obama, who like the Roman Emperors, sent their soldiers off to expand and subjugate only provides them and Congress, the means to do the same.

Lovely! Thank you Jill for doing so much good for education and support of our military and their family and loved ones. I know this is the second year in a row you and Joe have spent the 4th of July with our troops in Iraq and it means a lot to them and to Americans. I also know that the vice president is doing greater work in Iraq, and I'm grateful President Obama understands Joe's experience is invaluable in the region.

Please stay safe and Happy 4th of July Joe and Jill. (VP Biden and Dr. Biden :)

Yes, I know that were I stationed in Iraq or Afghanistan, like I was in Vietnam, that it would mean a lot to have to well fed, totally safe people come and tell me how grateful they were for fighting a war to keep Americans safe and to protect their rights when I knew damn good and well that it wasn't so. I know that merely by telling me that the killing of innocent people, the engaging in another civil war, by imposing a corrupt government on a people who fear this government as much as the one we replaced certainly makes it all true and worth while. Then, on the other hand, what else can a country do to keep the instrement of its foreign policy in line until they come home and are forgotten?

Most of the males in my family have volunteered or have been drafted over many generations. Military is fought over like children of divorcing couples to a disgusting degree. Look at the comments on this thread. I fear most care nary a whit about our troops and most of the nasty on this thread have personal agendas and have no clue about Jill and Joe Biden. In fact I guarantee it. To attack them in ways that I am seeing here shows nothing to me of understanding...but I do know when commenters use topics for personal agendas and individuals like the Bidens or our military as pawns for their own fear and anger. My family and I can speak of, the Bidens also as well as I may know them...and I funnel my anger and disgust in other, more appropriate and far more effective directions.
