I'm a fan. I thought he deserved a higher ranking in the Olympics.

He'd have legions of fans.

Though, he spend more time in the fashion section than in sports. Though, that's why we love him.

He's very young, he needs to follow what ever path he wants to. He may never go back to competition skating - but so what? He may excel doing something totally different.
06:45 PM on 07/08/2010
Age 26 is NOT 'very young'.
07:53 PM on 07/08/2010
I don't think figure skating age was meant.

This is sad but not unexpected; I just hope he has lots of chances to skate in shows this year. I was lucky enough to see him skate in the spring, it was amazing, he is such an incredible performer. I've also met him twice and he could not have been more gracious and kind. I wish him the best of luck, he has my love and support and I am looking forward to all his endeavors.

I understand Weir's reasoning but sure do hate not seeing him this season. He is a pure skater and those are few and far between of late. Unfortunately, there was so much homophobia associated with Weir this last year that I am certain it took its toll on him. The skating world (and the rest of us) knows that homosexuality exists in skating, as it does in all other sports, but they don't like it when someone is overtly gay. I find this type of "tolerance" abhorrent but I appear to be in the minority and that is a sad thing...
05:52 PM on 07/08/2010
May I join your minority? First and foremost Weir is a truly talented skater. He did an interview during the Olympics which was very moving and honest. He will do well in whatever he is destined to do.
03:33 AM on 07/09/2010
He shared in the commentating with Peter Carruthers and Tara Pinsky and it was really insightful, wonderful and full of heart...for the Worlds/Italy that followed Vancouver.

Weir is pushing it and will end up flat on his butt. With himself to thank.

This is a sports tragedy on par with, say, cancellation of the Super Bowl.
