Whenever a politician starts using the term "the American people" you know they are planning to screw "the American people".

"And as expected, like Senator McCain, the GOP is still struggling to comprehend or to respond to the financial crisis. And also like McCain, they are responding to the "fiscal crisis", by beating the drum for cuts in federal spending. They are proclaiming that government at every level can't afford to do anything right now beyond such cuts and freezes. (And where were they on excessive government spending under President Bush?)"

"It´s interesting that this was also President Herbert Hoover's failed solution to the Great Depression in 1930. He actually did it and it failed because it took a major source of spending out of the economy which tanked it even further.

Claire doesn't get it. We need to totally eliminate dealing with china, pakki, mexico, thailand, and bring those jobs back to the USA. Those jobs were the backbone of our economy, feeding our families, providing them with income to pay for housing, education, healthcare. The day we sent jobs over seas to compete was the day we sold out our own people. Instead of stealing from families, why not vote to end the war, you will have trillions to pay for education, unemployment, healthcare, not touch social security, end the killing of our troops for profit. That Claire is what you need to focus on. This is a slap in the face to every american family.

The loss of these jobs is directly (and maybe only) attribuitable to the Democrat and the Republican members of the US congress and the US Senate during the past 30 years that created the "Environmental" and "Free Trade" laws that caused US businesses to move their US factories and the associated jobs for US citizens overseas and lay off all of the US employees in order to take advantage of lower labor and environmental costs available in foreign countries.

Most of the importer's paid lobbyists probably spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on wine, food, women, song, corporate jobs for their (unemployable) children/wives/girlfriends of the congressmen and their aids, vacations, cash, sexual services, and campaign contributions to entice (bribe) our congressmen to pass this "Free Trade" legislation" that allowed all companies to take advantage of the lower labor and environmental costs available in foreign countries. This legislation was not in the interest of the citizens of the USA.

Those jobs are gone forever, until the US congress repeals the "Environmental" and "Free Trade" laws.

Maybe President Oboma should lead the congress for legislation to repeal all of the "Free Trade" and "Environmental" laws that caused our factories and our jobs to relocate overseas ! ! !

Dear cruisepuppy7452a:

I believe that real wealth is created and/or acquired ONLY when the members of a family (or a nation, city-state, island, tribe, etc.) plant, grow and/or harvest something of commercial value from the earth; extract something of commercial value from the earth; provide professional services (medical, legal, dental, engineering, architecture, accounting, land surveying, technology, etc.); and/or manufactures or constructs something of commercial value that is consumable (or permanently useful for income or rent); and then trades, sells, leases or rents these items and/or services to parties outside of their family, in return for a net transfer of gold, currency or commodities from other parties outside of their family into their own family.

The members of that family can reflect their real wealth and financial security with the net positive accumulation of grain, gold, cattle, jewels, land, buildings, factories, commodities and/or other marketable products for reserve use in times of emergency and/or also to raise the standard of living for the members of that family.

Economics, Trade Deficit, Government Spending Deficit, Jobs for Americans, and the Buying Power or value of the US Dollar are all interrelated. Each of these principles generally affect each of the others, and each is very important. These subjects need to be understood by the General Public.

McCaskill is a rube. Sessions votes against the Dems on every issue, but McCaskill will gladly side with him on a Republican spending freeze that he would have never proposed during the Bush years.

Claire... cut military spending first!
The GOP went on an 8 year spending spree without paying for any of it.
after they crashed the economy it doesn't seem right to not cut their unpaid excesses FIRST!
tax cuts for the wealthy
War
Subsidies to Big Oil
Subsidies to Corporate Health Insurance
Rampant Corporate Welfare

I'm with efffox below, the american people don't give a fig about the deficit. They keep quoting the "american people" and they aren't even talking to any american people. They only talk to reporters and pundits. Now is NOT the time to cut back, now is the time in Spend-Invest in america's future. I like McCaskill but she's riding the fence, the same way the Dems do over and over again. The republican answer to anything and everything is NO. As soon as they suggest anything, some Dems jump right on board. The repubs all stand 100% lock step with their party which is why they always get their way. I'm a little sickened and disgusted. If Claire thought that was important she should have introduced it 8 years ago. How many repubs would have backed her up during the last 8 years? 0

The Reb. also want a tax cut for the rich (10%) !!! So how do you pay down debt and give tax breaks (not part of freeze)... gut soc.sec., medicare, and all social programs! By their own admission, this is their agenda---lets trickle down some more it works so well

You've got it! The plan is to create 2 classes, the very, very small "Elite Class" with possession of all wealth and power on one side and the "Everyone Else Class" living in abject poverty on the other.

Just imagine the state of our world if this war on our economy is allowed to continue!

For those who are actually serious about cutting the deficit, here's a simple two step plan that will actually work:
Step 1 - Cut the military budget in half, because we're spending at least twice as much as we need to.
Step 2 - Let the Bush tax cuts die, since they account for the largest percentage of the deficit we've incurred over the past decade.
Problem solved.

I would be willing to agree with you wholeheartedly if we can also:

1. Cut spending of all government programs, save for education, by 25%
2. Revamp our federal welfare policies
3. Eliminate no-bid and union only bidding policies

Can we agree? If so, I will meet you in Washington to go knocking on office doors.

I'm afraid I can't agree with you, and this is why:
If I'm looking to cut spending, I don't want to start by looking to take funding away from the poorest among us. Cutting welfare takes food out of the mouths of hungry children if done irresponsibly (not saying you can't cut it down, but you need to be careful). Also, though most conservatives ignore this fact, spending on poor people has a very stimulative effect on the economy, because the money poor people get they spend, unlike say, banks, who take Federal dollars and hoard them or lend it out at a 900% markup. I don't like your idea of union busting either - unions are the reason we have 5 day work weeks, overtime and pensions. Where I do agree with you is we should look critically at all federal programs and see where we could cut costs, but keep in mind that most federal spending is on Social Security and Medicare, and nobody's getting rich on either of those programs. I would rather raise the ceiling on SS contributions - right now you pay in the same amount of SS if you make $90,000 or 90 Million. That makes no sense to me.
But thanks for the offer, let's keep talking.

"But I think clearly what has gone on in the international market is people understand that debt is the enemy of economic growth," McCaskill said. No, not at a time of recession it does not. During recessionary times, the government needs to prime the pump to get the private businesses going and be a sort of purchaser of last resort. Private businesses will eventually start hiring, but need government assistance in the form of contracts and some subsidies. Many need purchasing power in the form of an unemployment benefits extension. It is a time for government action and the deficits will disappear with economic expansion.

And watch the republicans crow about how they were able to get such partisan participation on this one. Not....the republicans will crow about how great their idea was and how dissatisfied the Dems are with Obama. Claire McCaskill better make sure she doesn't do her party in with this one. The Dems better make sure they make loud noises on how this was their idea in the first place and how they got the republicans to back the Dems plan for continued "recovery" spending.

I want to know why Ms. McCaskill is catering to republicans since she is not up for re-election until 2012. Where was she when GW and these same republicans in congress spent every penny they could find and more. Where was her concern then? I will call her office tomorrow to ask her.

Democrats ARE SPINELESS. They let republic..ants control everything even when those a$$holes are not in charge.

News Flash to McCaskill: We did not elect a bunch of Democrats who have no spine and who continually suck up to the failed policies of Mitch McConnell and the spendthrift republic..ants.

Our government has been hopelessly corrupted by careet politicians ... making it impossible to address the budget process honestly.

Until fundamental changes are instituted ... our government will be remain unable to address any major issue honestly.

It's time ...

Term Limits ... we must ban career politicians.

Publicly Financed Campaigns ... we must ban "all" campaign contributions.

FairTax ... we must replace the thoroughly corrupted income tax code ... with a fully transparent consumption based tax ... with "no" exemptions ... except for those living in poverty.

We need to get the corrupting influence of money out of the business of governing once and for all ... and be honest about why it needs to be done.

1. You mean "nobody good" like the pillars in office now ... with their tin cups in hand ... waiting for their Wall Street friends to fill them ... while they bankrupt a nation ... nobody good like them ?

2. It is the rich & wealthy that have bought and paid for the tax code that you are defending ... think about that a little more ... genious.

Why do you think Caeer Politicians & Wall Street would fight to the death to prevent a fully transparent consumption based tax ?

Because the rich couldn't manipulate it to their favor ... and the rich spend money ... so the rich would pay taxes.

The more you spend ... the more tax you pay.
The less you spend ... the less tax you pay.
