What the Federal Government has done in failing to address the Illegal Immigration issue early on is now a crisis of monumental proportions. There are millions of Illegals in this country who now consider the US their home. They have raised families and merged into American society. There is also a flip side as many illegals are incarcerated for crimes and end up being housed in US jails. The estimated cost Nation Wide can approach 500 Million Dollars. Those are Tax dollars being used for other than improving the US economy. All this is a result of the Federal Government being derelict in not only failing to place more emphasis in enforcing our border Laws but not giving adequate resources to those that do.What Arizona has tried to do was to fill the gap between those two extremes but it seems meeting with little success because of the backlash. The Federal Government has to shoulder full responsibility for what is now taking place...their non-action has been the catalyst in all of this and not Arizona. What to do now is a good question ?? For the Millions of Illegals who have become part of America it becomes a very sensitive issue of enforcement. No easy solution here !! Certainly cannot deport those Millions...to late for that...Possibly Grandfather those who have longevity and begin real comprehensive and meaningful action to secure our borders against future Illegals seeking to enter.

The sherrif of Franklin County Ohio said he turns over illegals about 30 a week to ice for deportation. This in one county out of the whole state. He also says they are from all over the world, and when asked how he thought he got in his reply was we are close to the Canadian border. We have a national problem that is multiplied many times over in border states like AZ. The feds don't seem to care so the states need to come together and fight until they manage get it done.

Your opinion of me is none of my business...

If they really want to increase enforcement then why wouldn't they want to team up with local law enforcement to accomplish even more?

Read the constitution, she is usurping the constitution. Immigration is strictly a federal issue.
07:01 PM on 07/29/2010
Exactly, and what I do not understand is why Glenn Beck gets on the air and screams (or weeps) about the "unconstitutional" administration, then at the same time supports AZ. I want the Feds to do immigration laws.

Jan Brewer - "The Picture of Doran Gray."
06:46 PM on 07/29/2010
Regardless of your view, Brewer is standing up for the legal citizens of her state. Demonize her all you want but thats honestly not going to get you anywhere. At least she is attempting to do something about illegal immigration; I can respect those who disagree with some of the specifics in the law but to attack this lady by claiming "she is no governor" is shallow and pathetic. Even if this law is not useful(even though it mirrors federal law), it will expose the obvious need for action; Then we can hope the "right" immigration law will be constructed.
06:47 PM on 07/29/2010
I think she is really just trying to look tough for the campaign.
06:51 PM on 07/29/2010
Thats impossible to tell but I would rather give her the benefit of the doubt. Plus that is quite a gamble, all or nothing?

Some Thoughts On The Immigration Issue

Put the employers in PRISON (not club fed, not fines... down in a hole with sadistic prisoners) when they hire illegal aliens. 1 agent doing a sting for the government would stop more illegal immigration than dozens of agents on a raid because the deported illegals just come back. Every employer that is stopped will stop dozens of illegal immigrants - with no need for racial profiling, etc. If there are no jobs for illegal immigrants, they won't come.
As long as the employers have no consequences (other than saving vast sums of money) they'll continue hiring illegals and every 1 that is deported will have 10 more ready to take their cash-under-the-table job. As long as these laws focus on attacking the exploited instead of the exploiter, illegal immigration will continue unabated.

"Arizona is the nation's epicenter of illegal immigration, with more than 400,000 undocumented residents. The state's border with Mexico is awash with smugglers and drugs that funnel narcotics and immigrants throughout the U.S., and supporters of the new law say the influx of illegal migrants drains vast sums of money from hospitals, education and other services."

I would like to see the objectively processed stats on that statement.

Once the illegals are given amnesty by Obama, his plan for lowering the deficit will crumble. It is my guess, Obama will find jobs for the illegals and the already unemployed workers. Oh yeah that's right, the illegals are going to be a boom to the economy with minimum wage jobs, that is if they are not paid cash. Oh, wait, that means the taxpayers will still fork out money for hospital visits for the many children they like to conceive ( more hospitals will do), education for elementary thru college cost and English classes for the adults, subsized housing (more will be needed), all correspondence will need to be translated to Spanish and perhaps other languages, as well, US food supply will need to be massive. Clean air will be a thing of the past. Do not forget to increase your insurance liability coverage. The list goes on and on. Of course, America can probably offset the illegal's liability with all the money they pay back to the American taxpayers. Of course, this little rendition is not exact, because the situation will be worse.

I know I've asked this question several times on other related threads but...When will some idiot legislator in a red state get the bright idea to require all "illegals" to wear some sort of identifying marker on their clothing so that good old americans can tell them apart and help round them up to be sent off to internment camps of some sort?

The facts are...Undocumented workers are here right now, they have families, many of them have established deep ties to the community, and they are not going away.

This Country will [Never] deport fifteen million or more people, along with their children, (many of whom are American citizens) It will not happen. And they know it won't happen.

So instead of being [Demagogues,] for a very temporary political gain. The republican party should work with the Democrats, in order to solve this thing, once and for all.

It was short sighted, and wrong not to have dealt with this issue years ago. We have a problem, we all know there is a problem, its time to stop playing games, and step-up!

Well said.

What the Republicans have not been known for since Eisenhower is statesmanship. They are awash in a morass of political gamesmanship, now entering their second generation of politicians of office-holding age who have known nothing else.

The Republicans will not do what is right for the country because they are viscerally incapable of doing so.
06:08 PM on 07/29/2010
What we should do, is just get them to report to an office, give a name, get fingerprinted and run them through the NCIC, I'd be okay with that, but we need to enforce immigration laws after that, because we cant keep coming back to this same situation.

She issued a State of Emergency in '05 and Bush sent 6K troops, started building the fence, and tons of money to the border states. She of all people know this is something we cannot back off of. In Tx we have been throwing in massive amounts of money every year to handle it. Probably the "secede" comment from Perry didn't go over well in Washington. They don't even acknowledge us anymore. LOL And as the situation in Mexico deteriorates, the situation here escalates.
