So have Christians, just look at the Crusades or better yet look at the history of this nation (often papists weren't allowed to own land or hold office)...when your particular group is in charge, you have a tendency to promote your religion over the others.

ABC News conducted a poll that Christianne Amanpour discussed this morning:

Only 51% of all Democrats have a favorable opinion of the Muslim religion.

36% (over 1 in 3) of all Democrats have an unfavorable opinion of the Muslim religion.

You libs may want to get your own house in order before you go pointing the finger at Republicans.

Do you really need to prove to anyone that 9/11 was horrible? Really? I am from NJ. I lived right across the river when it happened. I knew many including my sister who were in NYC that day. I couldn't get home because the roads were blocked. The smell lasted for weeks. I watched the smoke rise from that spot every day as I drove down the turnpike to work.

I will NOT use this horror to prevent Americans from putting up a community center with a prayer room in it two blocks away. I will NOT use the horror of anyone's death to promote my political agenda at the expense of those Americans. Anyone who can't separate the people who did this from the people who want to build the center have serious issues that should be addressed.

We could just as well have been listening to a similar call from one of the American Muslims who died in those buildings that day.

In order to justify their behavior, Christians turn their theories into dogmas...

Their bylaws into First Principles..

Their political bosses into Gods and all those who disagree with them into incarnate dev!ls.

This idolatrous transformation of the relative into the Absolute and the all too human into the Divine, makes it possible for them to indulge their ugliest passions with a clear conscience and in the certainty that they are working for the Highest Good.

And when the current beliefs come, in their turn, to look silly, a new set will be invented, so that the immemorial madness may continue to wear its customary mask of legality, idealism, and true religion.

Beginning in 1939 and continuing until his death in 1963, Huxley had an extensive association with the Vedanta Society of Southern California, founded and headed by Swami Prabhavananda. Together with Gerald Heard, Christopher Isherwood, and other followers he was initiated by the Swami and was taught meditation and spiritual practices.

Wonder why McSh@me has kept quiet on this????

Follow the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$...rhw connection to Arab oil money, and corruption within his campaign:

From BCCI, to Milken’s Junk Bond Kings, to Jack Abramoff, McCain has long provided the All-American face to the dirty job of cleaning up after the looting of America.

McCain has had a major part in a trillion dollar bank heist

McCain has made a career out of serving the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and covering up after its army of lobbyists, bagmen, and corrupt bankers.

McCain has done his part to cover-up BCCI’s looting of American banks and S&Ls, helped Ahmed Chalabi sell phony Iraq WMD information to Senate colleagues and to his constituents and more than anyone else, limited the public’s awareness of Jack Abamoff’s wholesale foreign buyout of the GOP, activities that individually have killed the careers of other Washington luminaries.

Yet McCain is still around........

I know what you mean I just read the other day where Mormon Missionaries in California executed two Christians for Adultery, Then there was that Catholic priest that chopped the heads off of a couple of his Parishoners because they were changing their religious beliefs or The Christian Father that killed his two daughters because they were becoming less God-Like.

That's reasonable question, Ant. thank you.
Answer-- I oopose spreading of ALL forms relgious fuidnemntalism.
There's a consensus that Islamic belligerent fundamentalism presents the gravest threat to the world today.

Quote:
"After having overcome fascism, Nazism, and Stalinism, the world now faces a new global totalitarian threat: Islamism.
Islamism is a reactionary ideology that kills equality, freedom and secularism wherever it is present.
Its victory can only lead to a world of injustice and domination: men over women, fundamentalists over others.

I want to add to what Kermit just said:

As many of you know, for the last five years I have wrestled with a profound existentialistic question: Who am I?

Am I Dutch? I mean, I was born there, hold a Dutch passport, look Dutch, and possess the "throat disease" known as Nederlands.

Or am I American? I mean, I lived here for 35 years, have American citizenship, hold an American passport, pay taxes here, and have a Johnny Carson-esque accent.

Holland has a lot of great things going for it, but to be candid, I often miss America when I'm there, and not just my American friends.

I decided to move back to Holland after Bush II was first elected in 2004 - that was really the last straw for me, and it's a decision I don't regret.

But family and professional interests keep pulling me back to America, and odds are I'll move back before too much longer.

But in all this decision making, many of you here at HP have been very helpful. Of course, the many troools remind me of why I left in the first place, and you still appall me more often than not.

But the many, many kind-hearted, rational and fundamentally good people here on this site make it possible for me to entertain coming back. If you weren't here, I'd probably have given up on America a long time ago.

Many thanks to my HP friends. I cherish you all.

The words spoken by Imam Rauf at the memorial service for Daniel Pearl, the journalist brutally murdered in Pakistan by terrorist Islamists: “We are here to assert the Islamic conviction of the moral equivalency of our Abrahamic faiths. If to be a Jew means to say with all one's heart, mind and soul Shma` Yisrael, Adonai Elohenu Adonai Ahad; hear O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is One, not only today I am a Jew, I have always been one, Mr. Pearl. If to be a Christian is to love the Lord our God with all of my heart, mind and soul, and to love for my fellow human being what I love for myself, then not only am I a Christian, but I have always been one Mr. Pearl. And I am here to inform you, with the full authority of the Quranic texts and the practice of the Prophet Muhammad, that to say La ilaha illallah Muhammadun rasulullah is no different. It expresses the same theological and ethical principles and values.” It took a great deal of courage to speak these words. Any Muslim imam who stands before a Jewish congregation and says, "I am a Jew," is placing his life in danger. This guy should be welcomed with open arms.

You cannot tell the truth about Mohammad at this website. Why is that? Can you tell the truth about Christ? Of course you can!

This proves that Christianity is better (because no one is afraid of Christians AFTER someone says something about Christ).

Cacey: when the "story" ignores that the people being written about have serious dangerous values, it does seem like people are not following the thread when they insist on putting those people in context. The context of their religion and its founder.

But that is the fault of those who write the article, not those who seem to be off topic.
