Used to be a top 30 Digg user but got bored with the politics of posting to it. Still went there for Graphic Design stories, but now can't even find those easily anymore. Digg is dead to me now.

the new layout looks good, but why does it keep defaulting to my digg? i want to see top stories!

I'm a Digg user, have been since '05 when it first started (I was a Tech TV fan and K. Rose was on Screensavers), and I know for a fact that A) the power users are nothing but the jocks of the Digg "high school". They do nothing but troll the internet all day looking for stories from the same 5 sources and submit them, then wait as their legions of followers Digg the story. B) The people complaining about new Digg have been there for less than 2 years, probably only participate in comments rather than actual story submissions, and don't understand the slightest thing about website management. C) They'll leave just like they did when v3 came out, go to Reddit or Mashable, and come back in 4-5 months crying about how stupid the users are on those sites, and how confusing their layout is.

Meanwhile I'll be on Digg every day like I always am, enjoying the sites it links to, like it was intended. It's like an airport. You don't go to the airport for your vacation, you go there to FLY to your vacation. If the airport sucks, tough s***, you're only there for a couple hours.

Wrong, I've been with Digg since inception. They've tried changing Digg before but not like this, this just blows. I'll go back to Digg when they come to their senses, if that's never oh well.

I think I'll just go back to Slashdot.

Kevin should have sold Digg when he had the chance. Now it's got a bad reputations and will die a slow painful death.

I left Digg 3 years ago and never looked back. Reddit is more of a community and I prefer that kind of interaction.
06:13 PM on 08/30/2010
Same here. I did go back once in a while and it sucked with trolls and immature comments. Plus stories were stolen from Reddit too. Looks like Digg dugg its own grave.

When Kevin Rose was starting Digg, he invested $6000 into the site, which was supposed to be for a deposit on a house for him and his girlfriend. As a result of this, their relationship broke down.

Goes to show what kind of values these nerds have.

Oh yeah now he can "buy" anyone right?
07:00 PM on 08/30/2010
Odds are had he started his site with the same direction he's currently leading it, he might be a much poorer man today.

These people criticizing Digg (make no mistake) are... or at least er *were* his staunchest supporters. Which is really what's sad about all this.

And then you've got one blog, after another, after another, with even Leo Laporte chiming in... basically giving horrendous advice like 'ignore the whiners'... Like how the hell are you going to turn your site from a robust community to a glorified RSS feed *over night*, and then expect people to not raise an eyebrow.

This whole Digg v4 roll-out has been a total debacle.

I heard Leo claim it was his advice to make the changes. If that's true Leo, you need to stick to your show and leave Digg alone.

Boohoo. Looks like Repubes can't hijack the new version as easily as the old version.
05:43 PM on 08/30/2010
i'm super-liberal and I hate the new version. yes, the old method wasn't perfect, but as it is now, I can't vote against articles that I don't like, either.
11:44 PM on 08/30/2010
Burying would perhaps be the only feature I miss, tbh, but then again I can also hide stories I dislike so it works the same as far as my experience is concerned. The only issue I have is that it's a bit of a hassle to view my comments on an article. Sure, I can see them all at the top, but I can't see the replies to them, which is what I'm looking for. I'm not stupid, I know what I wrote, I want to see what other people wrote about what I wrote so I can write something back about what they just wrote.

No doubt this is an attempt by the right wingers trying to manipulate DIGG having it handed to them.
02:48 PM on 08/30/2010
THANK YOU for recognizing that this isn't a Reddit takeover. This is a DIGG USER revolt.

One note: We could care less about Power Users like MrBabyMan, Saleem, or AmyVernon. In the common, regular, normal, I-have-a-life, users opinion, those users are nothing more than RSS feeds for places like Huff Post and Cracked.com anyway. The problem is that, not only are those power users going to continue submitting the same things they always do, their sources are now able to submit their own content as well.

This flies in the face of traditional Digg etiquette, which is, you should NEVER submit your own content. EVER. And that is what's being done right now.

ON TOP OF THAT, stories from places like Mashable and Engadget were front paging with as little as 20 diggs, while stories about the new design (all negative) which had 2-3000 Diggs were being censored from the front page. Regular Digg users were slapped in the face, and then spit on.

Jealous much?
02:29 AM on 08/31/2010
Its not jealousy but dissapointment that in less than a week digg was turned from a great site to a glorified rss reader. All his gripes with the new digg are legit and i have many of those same gripes against the new digg. also load more instead of next page sucks. also no upcoming pages. it just killled digg and reddit is going to be the alternative.

Wasn't there just some big censorship thing regarding digg and conservatives?
02:59 PM on 08/30/2010
The censorship thing was at Reddit over Prop 19 ads. The conservative "bury brigade" involved a conservative group burying Digg stories en masse that did not view conservatives in a positive light.

Kevin Rose said on Twit that both sides were doing it, but I've never seen proof that liberals were doing the same thing.

You'll never see a more whiny, crybaby bunch of diaper-wipers than over at Digg. Get out of your parent's basement!
05:45 PM on 08/30/2010
They're pretty bad at reddit too. I was a big user there for a while but left because of the incessant ignorance of the poorly educated college crowd as well as the people who develop and moderate the site are pretty much arse clowns.
