I miss Wachovia. They weee actually a good Bank until Wells Fargo bought them out. Then I was forced to move my money to a Credit Union due to the high fees.

I used to work for Wachovia in the Wealth Management Department, they were not a good bank, in my opinion, to either work for or bank with.

Thanks King. (-;

I remember this whole piece on Frontline about banks and much of it was focused on Wachovia and their unethical and very dark profit driven buisness deals.

Cashaw, King:
Definition; Cashaw's are very fine and highly sought after portion of the common cashew nut, but this portion is rarely found and only desquingashable by it's slightly darker color and it's very natural and amazing boquet of dynamic flavor.

King Cashaw, is a one in a million find where verbal decsription becomes fully incapable and the masters of excellence only wishes that your imagination in time, comes close.

Once again .. HP is wrong .. wrong .. wrong .. Film is making a come back as a niche market. Just ask Lomography. Video games are making a transformation not going away- just look at the app business.

Most of the companies listed did not go away because of recession but because of new technology.

Yes, you are correct - but not all that different and actually you can still get Kodachrome.

Ok I stand corrected. I checked Wiki and Kodak applied the term to a number of types of films and processes from 1935 - 2009. I was thinking of the old film that went out in the 70's when they called it that.

ugh.. give us a break, people get so sanctimonious on this thing - the recession was the final nail - and niche market's are just that and don't count as come backs - vinyl has a niche market - it doesn't mean it's back...

Go into any supermarket or drugstore you will find film .. Target or Walmart carry film as well .. think about how much film that is in the United States .. hardly seems like vinyl records.

FWIW, "Kodachrome" was not a Simon & Garfunkel hit, it was a Paul Simon hit, recorded after the duo had split.

Apparently some of their mods are a bit touchy... your deleted comment did not violate the site guidelines, just like the comment of mine that got deleted the other night (after 5 people had commented or faved it) didn't violate the guidelines.

Most of these the recession had nothing to do with. They were destined to fail anyway due to changing consumer trends.

No, who doesn't shop for sheets and towels and electronics? Linens N Things and Circuit City blatantly overcharged for their merchandise.

Circuit City, it had nothing to do with price. It had more to do with mismanagement, and Best Buy giving them a beat down. We use the two companies as case studies in a MBA course.

Who's next?

I'm surprised Blockbuster is still (barely) around.
Most newspapers and magazines will be gone in a couple of years.
Record labels, TV and radio stations are soon to follow.
Anything with Trump's name is destined to go bankrupt at least 3 times.
And it would be nice (but won't happen) for BP to get sold off and the profits
go to restoring the ecology and economy of the Gulf Coast.

Kodacrome did not fall victim to the recession.

It fell victim to better technology.

Well good luck finding it, Kodachrome hasn't been manufactured for years. Still might find some 35 mm though.
You never know, many 20 year olds are appreciating the sound of vinyl these days.

As I recall Encarta started out as simply a CD-ROM back when that was the state of the art, and was never able to gather the resources to be a living on-line knowledge base. Wow this author is going back a ways with this and some other examples.
09:47 PM on 09/10/2010
I remember ten or so years ago Microsoft had an encyclopedia of African American history, which I guess was a special edition of Encarta. Being curious I borrowed it form the public library and ended up reading it for hours at a time. Fascinating stuff!

Kodachrome was "done in" by the switch to digital cameras, not the recession. You might as well blame the recession for the demise of cassette tapes. By the way, "Kodachrome" was a Paul Simon solo recording, not Simon & Garfunkel.

Digital was not the only reason, but the formula for Kodachrome was flawed. Supposedly Ectochome, is much better.

I won't miss many of these brands (especially not the Hummer, yuck). But it's hard for me to vote any of these a 1 (no big loss) because it was a big loss for thousands of people who lost jobs due to the demise of these companies/brands. Let's not forget the human element to this recession.
08:59 PM on 09/10/2010
What in the world did the recession have to do with Kodachrome?

Blame that one on digital photography.
