Tell A Friend to REGISTER TO VOTE-- 71.3 million eligible voters did not vote, and 15.4 million registered voters didn’t cast a ballot

Absentee voting is a priviledge reserved for many that cannot attend the polls because of conflicts in schedules or limitations in getting there....ie, military, business travel, hospital stays, etc.  These votes place additional demands on a stressed election staff. Let's not encourage abusing the system. Voters that can make it to the polls should do so in order to know their vote was registered in person. One only needs to look at the Franken / Coleman debacle to understand.

The best billboard message from Bill Clinton:

What's more important is that all those people who voted for the first time ever in 2006 and 2008 realize that this is not, there are no one-time miracle votes. Citizenship is a lifetime job and if you want to protect the votes that you cast and protect the policies you support, you've got to show up again and if don't you can't complain if you lose and everything you voted for is washed away. It's your fault for staying home. That's what people have to understand.

Hopefully this bill will pass and be the beginning of ending the error of outsourcing American jobs. They also need to get rid of any trade agreements that are advantageous to the American worker and our economy.

One can complain all he/she wants about the Dems in Congress and their low polling numbers, not being progressive enough, or having weak constitutions but if one is to be open minded and honest you must also add, in the same breath, they are really trying to make some very important things happen! So let’s keep the pressure on them but at the same time acknowledge that they are putting forth a genuine effort on behalf of our great Nation! In addition, remember this Dems, we can stop the political madness that is holding our political system hostage by taking a friend to vote!!!

Friends don't let friends influence their decision to vote. Its a personal choice and you should not place pressure or false assurances in their minds. Each and every one of us is responsible to research on our own who we feel best serves the country and our needs.

Could not disagree more. I mobilized many friends to vote during the last election, regardless of whom they were voting for.

It's not a personal choice to vote, it's a responsibility as a citizen of a democracy.

If the Congress could pass one thing at a time, they might actually do some good. Pass the payroll tax relief but do it for everyone rather than just the new employees. It is like the ad on TV for some bank that gives the "new" kid an ice cream cone, but not the kid who is already there. It ends with something like even a kid knows a crock. If I were thinking of hiring someone, I would wait and see if this passes...and what restrictions and how much paperwork it would take.

Agree, but it has no teeth.Read between the lines of each proposal.Any companie's lawyer, could get around this in a heartbeat.

"the legislation includes another provision designed either to raise revenue or discourage companies from sending operations abroad"

Hmm, sounds like they don't have any idea what this bill will do . . . will it raise revenue or discourage companies?

Anyways, these stooges can pass weak bills like this all they want, but until they actually address the trade agreements they are pointless.
10:17 PM on 09/22/2010
Don't you think the bill can do BOTH?
10:20 PM on 09/22/2010
Nope, which is why they say either . . . they don't know.

Finally, a move in the right direction. I hope this will pass - better late than never. Hopefully, this is an indication that Congress is finally beginning to listen to the middle class. It's a couple of years late as a lot of damage has been done, but maybe this will be the first step in the fight against outsourcing. I will be watching this vote closely - if Repubs vote this down we will know exactly where they stand.
08:43 PM on 09/22/2010
Boehner "pledge to America" which should be "pledge to corporate America" shows exactly where they stand...

That's true, however I think it will be illuminating to some of the voters on the right to see their representatives vote down measures that attemp to begin reversing outsourcing. This is a very sensitive issue for many folks I know who typically vote Republican.

15 million under or unemployed and we debate or won't even debate the immediate need. Have we been invaded by the pod people and no one told me? Get it together and do the obvious. Pass the bill. November is coming and we CAN SEE YOU.

It makes no sense to pass a bill, just to pass a bill.Read the details.Payroll tax cut to hire an American.Sounds great till you get to the "only if they are replacing a foreign worker".Then look closely about the loss of subsidies.Any company can get around that one,by denying that it is the same type of business. This is for show only.

A strong Senator would force the Senate to stay in until all the bills sitting waiting to be voted on are voted on!

Harry Reid would do himself some good by showing some strength!!

Good ol Keith exposing what this Repub small business schtick  is all about.
The Small businesses are companies like Comkast, The Koch Brothers, And other huge companies posing as small business to rake in all the money. And these companies funnel their tax cuts right back towards Repubs, while we the ordinary citizens get the shaft with interest.
No wonder all this secret deals with Wall Street and the Companies, the Republicans are opportunistic cro-oks in bed with big businesses posing as small business. This stuff is beyond reprehensible and disgusting! Unbridled greed at it's worst!

To quote Mr. Gekko, "Greed is good." What's BAD is a government that fails to keep it in check, as what lead to the real estate bubble and credit crisis.

Greed (i.e., pursuit of self-interest, even beyond meeting your basic needs) is the engine of the American economy. Would there have been an iPhone4 without greed? No way! Kill greed and you drive a stake through the heart of the most prosperous nation on the planet.

Here's an idea: How 'bout CEOs take a pay cut? Now workers can enjoy a living wage, and the officer's salary reduction will just offset the increase in wages. Bottom line stays the same, more people have more disposable income, economy stimulated, happy days here again.
08:45 PM on 09/22/2010
Not exactly what the repubs have in mind...they rather like the current situation - maybe that's why they haven't done anything!

Nice thought:, but will never happen -- the CEOs are too greedy. F&F for your optimistic post.

However, happy days will never be here again, at least for me, -- I for one, have stopped buying junk from China & do not spend any discretionary income anymore. I don't trust what our future holds for us w/the thought of the Thugs taking over the senator or house.
